Gas leak. The incident caused quite a commotion today. At least 200 people have been evacuated at this point. Reporter just after 11 00 a. M. , an Oakland Police lieutenant smelled something suspicious on broadway and quickly sounded the alarm. An employee thought it was just another drill. It was very fast. Sitting there, and the sirens went off. And then you see everybody saying they evacuated. So it was fast. Reporter fire crews arrived with the hazmat team. All suited up they went through the ninestory building. At first they were looking for a possible gas leak but quickly realized the smell was coming from the vacuum system. A Public Service company arrived. No public systems were disrup d ed. 911 is not located here at seventh street, so that is not affecting calls for services on the street. Reporter people who came to do business could not get in. They closed the surrounding area. I was trying to get back in my office but i couldnt. Reporter the l. A. County superior courthouse was next door, employees were not evacuated. But some were concerned. Oh, yes, i dont know if i want to go back in there. But im sure they will let us know. Reporter pg e tested the area around the building as a precaution, no leaks were detected. In oakland, leanne melendez, abc 7 news. A witness to the beating of a woman outside at t park says it may have started when the officer made fun of her while she was drunk. More on the latest developments. Reporter well, the fight started across the street from the ballpark at momos restaurant, just outside of the Restaurant Police arrested one of the suspects, one of the assailants last night. In sacramento, theyre still looking for the other man but they tell me they know who he is. As for the female victim she was treated and released from San Francisco General Hospital today. And as for the cause of the altercation, well, apparently it had nothing to do with the giants, the ballpark or security. The game had already ended with the as slaughtering the giants, 61, the female victim should have been happy. Witnesses say she was wearing an as tshirt. About two hours later the woman and her male friend were standing outside the popular postgame restaurant, momos. That is when corey white noticed them. The woman was obviously intoxicated and the guy was helping her. He was giving her a cup of water, trying to help support her. Reporter white told us that is when a group of two men and women approached the couple. White doesnt know what started the fight but he says it quickly got out of hand. It definitely escalated from words to shoving to punches pretty quickly over the period of a minute or two. Police say one assailant wore giants apparel, his friend, an as tshirt. I can tell you this was not related to any team paraphernalia. Any team rivalry. That i can tell you for a fact. Reporter reliable sources tell us the group was making fun of the intoxicated woman, even perhaps taking her picture, one hit the woman with her purse sending her to the ground. He said she and her friend began to fight. Now, the second victim, which was a female, attempted to intervene to stop the assault. The woman stood back up from the sidewalk. And the big guy, the suspect, just hit her right in the face. Knocked her out flat. Just one single punch and she was down, out cold on the sidewalk. Reporter the group ran off but a witness took the license plate of their truck. The police later traced it to a sacramento address and arrested one of the suspects, vic lee. And the man who died in the big rig accident near los gatos, yesterdays Chain Reaction crash began when a truck carrying dirt jack knifed and hit other vehicles. The Highway Patrol said that mcguire died after being ejected from his vehicle, he was thrown out. One other person suffered injuries. One person said the brakes started to smoke near the reservoir. The investigators kept the highway closed until early evening. It went on for several hours. And Police Released a sketch of a suspect wanted in a Jewelry Store robbery. They say he may have been shot in the stomach inside the Jewelry Store yesterday. Two people were shot including an employee during the shootout in the store. The store owner is believed to have fired back hitting one of the armed robbers. The injured employee suffered a shot to the arm. An hour from now grand jury transcripts will be unsealed from the sierra lamar murder investigation. The transcripts are from the proceedings against garciatorres indicted in february. Sierra disappeared two years ago and was never found. Attorneys on both sides objected to the information. And one side believes it could be an unfair trial. And a woman accused of buying and selling dozens of bikes, prosecutors dismissed the charges saying Additional Investigation is needed in the case. Police arrested rebecca hammock for having 130 stolen bikes in her home. And this was National Gay Blood drive today. They want the fda to stop its policy regarding blood drives. We have hundreds of thousands of spots across the city, and what were trying to do is to affect only 1 less of all the spaces. The program would convert 900 spaces into car share over the next two years. The Transportation Agency would charge car share agencies to put cars in lower result areas downtown. She treaded water for 13 hours after getting separated from her husband in the gulf of mexico. The rescue crews searched for doris deed after her husbands frantic 911 call. I went back to where i thought we were and i could not find her as you just heard, larry kept calling his wifes name. The couple had been diving for scallops when their boat drifted after arthur slammed the seas last weekend. He swam to the boat. His wife survived in part because she inprovised. I searched at this point and saw a pipe sticking out. I literally put my legs and arms around the pole and just hung on to it. Clung to the pole. When the sun rose, doris spotted a search boat and rescue crews then reunitednr her with r husband. Wow, close call, online retailer amazon making no secret of its plans to use drones to delivery. Now they want an exemption from federal rules to do that. Amazon sent a letter to the faa seeking information for testing drones as part of its amazon primary delivery service.
