Police officers firing shots at an armed man who had burst into the center of canadas government. That gunman identified late this afternoon as michael zehafbibeau. Witnesses say at least 30 shots were heard while members of parliament were holding their weekly caucus meetings. Thought it was dynamite or construction rather than anything else. Suddenly the security guards come rushing down the hallway, usher us all out to the back of the parliament building. Reporter the parliament sergeantatarms is the one who shot and killed the suspect. Earlier, a canadian soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial was shot. That soldier died at an ottawa hospital. Police would not say if this incident and the shooting inside parliament involved the same gunman. There was a man with a rifle shooting at a bunch of people so we, i yelled at all my guys, theres a guy shooting so everyone get down. Reporter most of downtown ottawa was put on lockdown and residents were asked to stay away from the downtown area while the investigation continued. The National Hockey league even canceled tonights Ottawa Senators game as a precaution. We are asking the communities to continue to be aware, to be vigilant. Reporter in the u. Abc news, washington. The sergeantatarms Kevin Vickers fired the fatal shot that killed the gunman. The 58yearold vickers is a former Police Officer who worked for the Royal Canadian mounted police before joining canadas house of commons as the head of security. In a tweet, Justice Minister and attorney general peter mckay said thank god for sergeantatarms Kevin Vickers and our canadian security forces, true heroes. Canadas minister of Veterans Affairs tweeted im safe and profoundly grateful to sergeantatarms Kevin Vickers. The fbi has sent an email to all field officers like the one in San Francisco telling them to remain vigilant. Sheriffs deputies are on guard at some public buildings in the city. Residents in part of East San Jose will need to keep boiling their Drinking Water until its declared e. Coli free. Matt keller asked why it took so long to issue an alert about the dangerous bacteria. Reporter why would the Water Company wait 48 to 72 hours to notify people when you had a positive test . So again, the protocol on the Water Utility industry is that we dont issue a boil water notice after one result. When we get a positive result, what we will do is conduct another round of sampling to confirm that that result was in fact positive. Reporter there need to be something set in place so people can find out when their water is contaminated. This is negligence on their part. Boil water notices went to 300 homes and businesses. San jose Water Company says it knows of three people who have had e. Coli symptoms. The contamination comes after a new water main was installed on piedmont road. The fire broke out around 5 00 a. M. It burned a barn on ferguson road east of u. S. Highway 101. Firefighters surrounded the burning pile to keep the flames from spreading. Crews have come from far away, as far away as san jose, to assist in the battle and stayed on scene all day to try to mop up a very big mess. In pittsburg, police want to find witnesses following a shooting that left a 16yearold boy in critical condition. Someone fired through the open side door of a garage around 9 00 last night. Detectives believe the shooter targeted the people who lived in that home. They also tell us it appears the victim was involved with gangs in the area. Protesters are in a standoff right now with police after marching through downtown oakland. This is part of the national 19th annual day to stop police brutality. Some activists believe that actions by police have repressed and criminalized a generation of young people. The protest has been peaceful so far. No reports of any injuries or vandalism. A year ago today, tragedy in santa rosa. A sheriffs deputy saw someone carrying what appeared to be an assault weapon. Unfortunately, it was not. Either way, it was a bad situation. Right. 13yearold andy lopez was shot and killed. He was carrying an airsoft pellet gun. Alyssa harrington is live in santa rosa, where the anniversary has been marked. Reporter they are holding a potluck in the spot where andy lopez was killed one year ago. Im on moreland avenue in a park now named in his honor. Since his death, law makers have signed a bill to make it obvious that toy guns are fake but those changes are taking longer than some would like. A bell rings 13 times, symbolizing the 13 years of andy lopezs life. Students and activists gathered at a memorial rally on the Sonoma State University campus to mark one year since the teenager was shot and killed by a Sonoma County sheriffs deputy. Lopez was carrying an airsoft pellet gun. Deputy gelhouse told investigators he thought it was an assault rifle. Poor little andy never had a chance. Reporter what visually differentiates a toy gun from a real one is a colored tip which friends say lopezs may have been missing. Its difficult for officers to arriving on the scene to make that splitsecond decision. Reporter the senator coauthored a bill just signed into law which requires the exterior of a toy gun to be a bright color with a fluorescent band. But that law does not go into effect until 2016. Senator evans says manufacturers and retailers were worried about losing money and needed time to make the change. It is disturbing and i would hope that responsible retailers would get them off the shelves, not sell them, get them off the shelves, remove them as quickly as possible. It adds 8200 square feet of Storage Space to the market which has been providing fruits and vegetables to San Franciscos restaurants and Grocery Stores for more than 100 years. You need this renewal. You need modern refrigeration. You need more space for the distribution, the trucks are getting larger. This is just the first phase in the markets 100 million revitalization.
