Weakened from san leandro to san jose. Neighbors say this tree is at least 200 years old and they arent surprised it came out of the ground. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Heres a perfect example of why you dont want to drive through a flooded road. You can see the results are not good. Both cars stalled and they had to be helpeded out by other drivers. And a live look outside from the exploritorium camera. Its been rough all day. We have Live Team Coverage of the flooding and damage all throughout the bay area. Lets again with Spencer Christian who is tracking this storm. You said active weather. This is what we have across the bay area right now. Light to moderate rainfall. A blanket of it. Its been moving for three hours with no shift one way or another. This is already on top of saturated grounds. Right now we see a steady rainfall in San Francisco, oakland, much of the east bay. The san to cruise mountains. The north bay, and that has been the pattern with all it all moving up from the west southwest. We do have flooding concerns. Flood advisory for San Francisco, san jose, livermore. The east bay until 6 15. Parts of the north bay still under a flood advisory until 4 45. And we have an advisory, a coastal Flood Warning right around the bay shoreline. That includes San Francisco, oakland, middle part, fremont almost down to san jose. Thats in effect until 7 00. And rainfall totals have been quite impressive. Over five inches in santa rosa. Exactly two inches in San Francisco. An inch and a half in concord. Only 8 10 at livermore. Ill give you a quick animation here. The mass i rain wont move out until the middle of the night. Overnight until 2 00 a. M. Or so. Well see spotty showers. Larry, were in the community of alviso where earlier in afternoon multiple intersections were flooded. If you look blind me, this is one of the Flood Warning signs that still remains in place as a precaution. Now the rain continues to fall here in san jose. Neighbors are certainly breathing a sigh of relief. At the northern tip of san jose, just south of the San Francisco bay, its been a long day for neighbors. Crews for the city of san jose were out here today, their machines sucking up water the drain system couldnt handle and dumping it back to the the day. I was just wanting to take a picture of the rain coming down. Within like five minutes was almost submerged in water. Reporter in san jose this tree came down on an suv. The tree has been there for probably a few hundred years. And eventually this is the sort of thing that happens when theres a big rainstorm. Crews on boxwood drive working quickly to clear the the mess. And back here in alviso the city set up an Evacuation Center if needed. Reporting live in san jose, abc 7 news. In santa cruz, an 11yearold boy is in the hospital after being trapped under a cypress tree for 15 minutes. High winds brought it down this morning. This photo shows firefighters using chain saws to cut part of the chain and free him. An 11yearold girl was hit by tree branches. The School Canceled classes for the day after this happened. Thats about a foot and a half of standing water covering a half block area. Jonathan bloom is live with us right now with more on the damage right there. Jonathan . Well, you know the rain came down hard and fast here. You can imagine we found quite a few cars stuck in the muck. We also found something else, some people making the best of a bad dichgs. Flooded streets are dangerous for drivers, which is all the more reason to find a different sort of vehicle. What are you out here doing . Air mattressing. Thats an air mattress . Yeah. Kara and her little brother drove up withthe whole family to check out the flooding. Once they were here, they had to jump in. Wanted to do it in the safeway parking lot. Our father would not let us. Thats because the safeway parking lot is where the real folks are. We have kayaks at home. Is we decided to go kayaking. Its as perfect for boats as treacherous for cars. Of course, youll be fine if the wheels look like this. A lot of obstacles. And the water has gone down. Across town thats far from the case near the Russian River. It usually takes a couple of hours for the water to move down to the river. The river rises after the rinse off. Police say its the first time in ten years theyve shut down this park. But the flood has already taken one casualty. Are you ever going to sleep on this air mattress again . Never. Im going to throw it away. As well they should. Remember, storm water and floodwater can have nasty stuff in it. Stuff thats bubbled up in sewers and storm drains. Sewers and storm drains. Do not drive in standing water. Thats the point. Electricity is still out in one san leandro neighborhood after a tree fell on a power line, snapping the pole like a twig. The pole fell on the back of the r ka and crushed it. This took place just before 5 30 this morning near lib i took my coffee to the living room table and was sitting down. Everything blacked out all the sudden. Completely blacked out. The down line left hundreds of people without power, including everybody t the fairmont palms apartment building. They do not expect the electricity back until 8 00 tonight. Drivers in South San Francisco braved the floodwaters. One tried to navigate with hazard lights as several vehicles made their way onto 280. One driver decided to avoid the offramp after seeing the water on the road. The storm caused Power Outages all over the bay area. Hardest hit, San Franciscos union square and the financial district. Many street districts on market and other nearby streets still not functioning. Stores and other businesses had to shut down because of the lack of power. More than 150,000 customers in the bay area lost their electricity for some time today. And right now about 75,000 still remain without power. In San Francisco alone, 66,000 customers are in the dark. Pg e crews are restored power to about half of those affected. As expected, there were big delays. Most of them were short flights along the west coast. No delays at oakland or san jose. Some airlines are allowing attentions to rebook their flight without any change fees. Do call ahead before you head to the airport. Bart faced several problems because of the intense rain. The power outage in forced the closure for more than six hours. The san bruno station was shut down for two hours because of the flooding. Workers rushed in to mop up the and unclogged drains outside of the station. Going back to mass transit. Bart trains are running on time. It is shut down from 80. We also have high wind. Be careful for high sided vehicles. This was taken around 7 30 a. M. On southbound 280 in san bruno. One car got turned around. The freeway completely flooded. Traffic barely getting by on the shoulder. Police have been helping drivers stuck in the floodwater. This car stalled. You can see a Police Officer coming to that drivers rescue. He pushes the stalled car off to the side of the road. And you hardly see this San Francisco popular tourist attraction Fishermans Wharf nearly empty. No power. In businesses and restaurants had to close. The restaurants that did stay open had to use candles for light. Leann, no power means no shopping. Reporter larry, behind me you see crews working hard to restore that power. Im going to move here a little bit. Now all morning and afternoon, it was just kind of eerie around here. It resembled more than anything it resembled more than anything like a ghost town. This area is always packed with people shopping for the holidays. Macys managed to open part of the stores. Other stores had signs apologizing to customers. Sorry. Were closed because of the power outage. We had disappointed shoppers and mad retailers. A lot of restaurants were without power. We were afraid of other issues. Maybe roof drain and so forth. We never thought we would lose the power. We can always cook with candles, but we decided not to. John always has a good sense of humor. Now moving onto the mission district. Gosh. I can tell you poor residents and businesses on fulsom and 17th. Last week they were flooded. A city hired an independent company to help with clean up to protect them from the flooding waters. Guess what . The flooding waters are back. That area is so low and doesnt drain properly. Were back at union square are crews are working to restore power. Right now some businesses are in the black. It continues to saturate the ground. The heaviest rain has moved inland. Still a steady flow from the south southwest. On we go to the Russian River where were concerned about flooding. Theres still a flood watch in the area. The Russian River floods at that flood stage is 32 the flood expected tomorrow morning at 11 00. That could produce minor flooding. Sfo in low clouds. Its raining there. Peak winds gusts, very impressive, 71 Miles Per Hour. Dangerous is what i should say. 64mileperhour gusts at l los gatos. 56 Miles Per Hour gusts at halfmoon bay. 48 Miles Per Hour gusts at oakland and sfo. Calm winds in san carlos and hayward. Very light winds under 10 miles very light winds under 10 Miles Per Hour everywhere else. Rain will turn to thunderstorms. A much needed break will come on saturday after this rain. Satellite imagery shows to movement of the system that brought us to stormy weather. But the rain will ease up later tonight as the front finally shifts to our south and east. Heres a look at our Flash Flood Watch through late tonight. Covering virtually all the bay area. Dangerous flooding is possible because of the continuing rain. Rapid rises of creeks and streams. A possibility of ponding water. Also a possibility with the continuing rain. And we still have a High Surf Advisory in effect until 10 00 tomorrow morning. Dangerous rip currents are a possibility i long with beach erosion. And blizzard warnings in effect for tomorrow. Dangerous conditions. 10 to 20 inches of snow expected with winds gusting as high as 80 Miles Per Hour. Passes may close for several hours. Back to bay area for tomorrow, well see a lot of clouds and pockets of rain and scattered showers. Showers. Maybe even a thunderstorm or two heres the accuweather sevenday forecast. The much needed rain occurs on saturday. Partly cloudy, dry conditions. Overnight sunday into monday, another rainmaker moves in. So rainy on monday. Showers likely on tuesday. We get another break next wednesday and thursday. This is very active pattern. And just for perspective, the worst of this is over. And the heaviest rain as ended as well. But as that rain continues, still creates problems. The ground is saturated. Theres already flooding. Rivers and streams are still rising. We really need the rain to end. The owner was inside the boat as it was bobbing around in the waves, trying to keep it from capsizing. At least two sailboats snapped from their anchors and they ran aground as the waves took them crashing in. The other got stuck at a nearby beach. Nick smith braved the conditions in pacifica. All you have to do is lean and it but its also causing heavy waves. They keep hitting the pilot and we see them crash here on the walkway as well. We have seen wind gusts up to 45mileperhour. I continue to look to get an idea of how strong the winds continue to rise and continue to go and again this is only the beginning. We know its going to get stronger.
