A person being detained by the police next to the tree. The 911 call came around 9 45 last night. Here at fulsome between 24th and 25th streets. Police say the suspect armed with a long kitchen knife was threatening a man. He later told police the suspect was trying to steal his bicycle. Coincidentally, two plane cloiths officers were driving by at the time. Police say they shot the suspect after he advanced toward them refusing orders to drop his knife. The officers drew their weapons, demanded for the man to drop his knife. He refused. We have several witnesses that heard this. The shooting was big news in this busy Mission District neighborhood. I dont think they should be killing anybody, and i dont think people should be stealing peoples bicycles. In general, the cops in this neighborhood are usually pretty on top of their game. Still, some question the Fatal Shooting. There was talk that police had stopped and questioned the alleged bike tleef a couple blocks away earlier in the night. 15 minutes after being detained plain clothes officers arrived and shot and killed him. He had a knife and again, that is not a reason to shoot to kill someone. Police say officers can use lethal force against someone armed with any weapon if they believe their lives or anyone else are in imminent danger. The thief used a truck for a dramatic smash and grab from a highend audio visual store in San Francisco. Around 4 00 this morning the man rammed a silver truck into the audio vision store near polk street. He was only inside a few minutes, but it was long enough to grab several expensive electrainings. Damage to the building is estimated at 100,000. Its pretty raw. Thats my business. He did have some pretty extensive security here, asio can see, he has a gated window. The individual who was driving the truck at the time had to back into it at least twice to try to get in. Police are looking for a fourdoor silver pickup with rear end damage. Theyre also investigating whether this could be related to six similar burglaries in the city in just the past year. Were learning disturbing details today about the body found in a Sonoma County home yesterday. Police say she was 84yearold olga mary denelly. Her home was in disarray and there was blood at the scene, so police say theyre investigating the case as a homicide. She lived at the home on rose avenue for several decades with her brother larry who was not at home when she was killed. Police say her car is also missing. Uc santa cruz students have launched a puetition drive urging their school to be more accepting of studentstransgender. A student there brought our attention to this story and thats where david louie joins us live on campus. Well, larry and katie, that social Media Campaign began two days ago and its already collecting hundreds and hundreds of signatures. Now, whats happening is theyre trying to promote change so there will be more understanding for the students who are different on the campus, and as a result they think it could lead to mandatory diversity training. I live only meters from where that attack happened. It makes me feel unsafe when im there at night. The attack happened after midnight three weeks ago. University police are investigating the attack as a hate crime. Two arrests have been made. The victim sustained very serious injuries, including a broken hip. A fractured jaw, and the wrist was broken in three places. The attack has prompted representatives from over ten student groups to issue demands to the Uc Santa Cruz Administration that include workshops, free self defense classes and multistall all gender rest rooms. If you dont understand transpeople, youre not going to be able to accept us. If you dont try to understand who we are. A petition with the demands has collected over 1300 signatures on change. Org. Random students we questioned believe uc santa cruz is a tolerant community. The attack happened as a campus party broke up and many people believe alcohol can fuel violence. Students are required to take a class about responsible use of alcohol. This thirdyear student things the work shop on gender identity and Sexual Orientation should be mandatory. If people were to go, it would help, but the problem is getting them to the work shop. The chancellor is expected to take the petition and demands seriously. We have a satellite image dropping down to the pacific northwest. The cold front has moved through already, bringing up a drop in temperatures and the windy conditions. Unstable conditions but very little moisture in the system. What is it going to produce for us . Lets take a look at the forecast animation starting at 7 00 this evening. Clouds a few spots of precipitation likely down in the south bay. And as we look at the overnight conditions, well see theres the rain line. Notice most of the activity and the chance of thunder will be in the south bay, south of that line that cuts through across the pins and over to the east pay. As we continue into tomorrow well see, again chance of thunder and showers. Mainly in the south bay and the south bay mountains, but later, the line moves northward. Even San Francisco to oakland and locations along the peninsula can see showers and a chance of thunder. Looking farther ahead, by 11 00 saturday evening, it looks like it will be out of here. Rainfall totals probably no greater than just a few hundredths of an inch in most locations, but heavier totals in the south bay up to almost. 9 inch in san jose. And snow totals in the sierra will be more impressive south of lake tahoe. We expect Winter Weather advisory in effect. 4 to 8 inches of snow above 5500 feet and up to a foot of snow possible in the higher peaks and delays and chain requirements are likely.
