One officer was shot right in the face the other in the shoulder, both we are glad to say are expected to recover. Marcia gonzalez is in the area with the latest. Today police surrounded this home. They ran up to me. Kaying several people as they try to track down the gunman. Shows shots fired around midnight last night. Shots fired, officer down. At the end of a protest sparked. Tom jackson announced he was resigning. A response cited widespread racism within the city and department. Police say the demonstration was just starting to wind down when someone started shooting. We look at that one officer shot through the shoulder, the other shot in the cheek. The bullet still lodged behind his ear. Youre lucky, by gods grace we didnt lose two officers last night. Both have been sent home from the hospital expected to recover as some wonder this city has endorsed so much by Michael Browns death will be able to do the same. This really disgusting and cowardly attack might have been intended to unravel any sense of progress that exists. I hope that does not happen. Ferguson police will no longer be in charge of security here. The men led police on a chase before getting off on freemont avenue in sunnyvale. They hit a deadend and ditched their car in a neighborhood in sunnyvale. I just heard a loud noise in the middle of the night the dogs started barking,. It looks like he jumped over my backyard. Nearly two hours after the chase started they were arrested. The pair face several charges including abating an officer and carjacking. Theres a warning going around in part of the east bay this evening. After a dead bat was found to have ray bees. The bat turned up last friday on blackout road. Afternoon, were sitting just in front of the Community Center. If you follow me this way. Theres a playground right there, some families, some kids right there, just yards away from the entrance to the center. Many of these families were learning about the dead bat today. The Alameda County vector going door to door to tell people about the situation. At the Community Center in freemont parents were surprised about i the discovery of a bat that tested positive for rabbies. No one talked about it. Signs are posted at the entrance to the center. The results came back tuesday. In Alameda County two to six rabid bats are found each year. Rabbies is a fatal disease you catch it. They canvassed nearby neighborhoods this morning. One of the Highway Patrol officers heroically survived the life of a suicideal man. The video of the incident was captured by a dash camera and released just today. Thats what youre watching. The officers saw the man leap off the overpass. He held on as he dangled 70 feet above another freeway below. An offduty sheriffs deputy and Oakland Police officer witnessed what happened they helped hoist the man back over the railing. This is a positive outcome, theres 1,000 ways this could have ended many were happy it ended the way it was. Were proud of our officer it was a split second decision, this is what he chose to do. The man was taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. San francisco fire investigators havent determined what caused yesterdays mission district. There are questions about how long it took an ambulance to get to the scene. Abc 7 news has confirmed no ambulances were available for more than six minutes after the first 911 call. Fire officials blame it on an unusually high call volume. The city gets an average of 5 emergency calls that time of night. It had 11 ambulances available. Yesterday there were 14 medical calls at the same time. There was a little delay in getting an ambulance to the scene, there were three people that could do cpr on them. And all three of them regained pulses. The firefighters trained as paramedic s paramedics. Right now the defense is presenting its case in the ellen powell trial.
