Heres a picture of the shooter identified as chris Harper Mercer. Police officers faced off with mercer before shooting him. Also, today, tales of heroism. Students and staff who survive the attack are being bussed in today to pick up their cars and other belongings. Class will remain closed through next week. One of the men who thwarted a terror attack back in august lives in roseburg and was enrolled in umpqua Community College. He rushed home after learning about the attack and showed his reaction today on good morning america. Its just absolutely insane to be in a situation like this. Especially in my town, roseburg. This is a really small community. Just something of this magnitude is just very rare and just unheard of. He said he wished he could have been there. Hes a member of oregons National Guard and says hes devastated by the shooting and vows to do whatever he can to help people there heal. The gunman did have distant relatives here in the bay area. One of them last saw him when they were both children. A stepcousin described for us today how shed been shaking by yesterdays tragic shooting.
