It hasnt had a major renovation in more than 50 years and its starting to show. It seems that falling concrete incident inside the tunnel last month wasnt as isolated as cal trans first announced. There were 13 spots discovered. Reporter in fact, cal trans tests reveal a pattern of failure due to corrosion caused by rain water. Its the same eastbound tunnel where a chunk of concrete gave way in january damaging a car while narrowly missing the driver. There is a little bit of light corrosion on the rebars and were now going to be meet to talk about the steps going forwa forward. Reporter that is the federal highway administration. In the meantime the crumbling sections have been removed. According to the metropolitan
