A low pressure system just moved on shore in the north bay, producing a band of rain from guerneville, reaching over towards knoxville and parts of napa county. Southward, the east bay and south of San Francisco, we see a wide area of rainfall thats becoming steadier with some pockets of heavier rain in oakland, down south, and even farther south into the south bay, around morgan hill and gilroy. Lots of rain scattered around, bands of rain developing offshore and about to sweep on shore. We have windy conditions, as well. An advisory remains in effect for 6 00 p. M. , in the north bay, winds gusting up to 40 Miles Per Hour. Heres a look at current wind gusts. 35 Miles Per Hour at sfo. Maybe an hour ago, sfo had 49mileperhour gusts. Windy all around the bay area. We expect the winds to diminish, but the rain will be with us and eving commute will be slow and messy. Larry . Cornell bernard has captured dramatic images in the north bay. This is a large tree that took down power lines in mill valley. In samona county, he mound a flooded road. And near the Russian River, check out this vineyard that is flooded. Cornell is live with the latest. Cornell . Reporter a lot of folks around here breathing a big sigh of relief today. The good news is that the flood danger on the Russian River has passed. It will not reach flood stage. But local creeks is another story. Creeks continue to flood, closing roads like walder road here in forestville. In fact, the water continues to rise today on this road, as the rain keeps falling. Its made driving frustrating, but others are making flooding and rain into a sporting event. Rain pounded Sonoma County all night and all day long. So much rain, the water had nowhere to go. It left this vineyard near heelsburg under water. The entry gate barely visible. East side road was flooded out. But many drivers took their chances and plowed their way through. Are you going to try driving through this . Yes, yes. Reporter Kylie Phillips wasnt so sure her car would make it. Right now im trying to get to my sisters house. Ill probably stay up there so i dont have to drive through this. Reporter theres a flooded road ahead, what is your plan . From the looks, i might have to turn around. Reporter we were there as debris from a landslide continued to wall onto summer home park road in forestville. The road is still closed, as crews worked to clean it up. Havent seen it in 19 years this bad. Reporter the Russian River continues to rise but flooding is no longer a danger. Local creeks caused flooding and cut off access to vineyards. Others are making the best of the rain and flooding. Go reporter yep, these guys decided to wake board their way down east side road, just because it was there. Tell me why youre doing this . Cant wait till summertime. We figured we would put this rain to good use and its been fun so far. Reporter they plan to wake board all weekend, they said. I could watch that video all day long. A caltrans crew was cleaning up a slide along highway 101 when a second slide came down. No one was injured. Spring lake in Sonoma County is closed and you can see why. Storm waters spilling across the trail at creek crossings and inching into parking lots. Several camp grounds are also closed. Marin county also very wet today. You can see a lot of rain coming down in this video. And while water levels were rising, it wasnt as bad as it could have been. Wayne freedman is live. Wayne . They tweeted this picture of highway 101. That is a concern all around the bay. Janet o has a look at conditions for drivers earlier today in the south bay and peninsula. Reporter chp says when it rains people forget to take it slow. At least ten miles below the posted speed limit. While most had their wind shield wipers and headlights on, an officer told us he had to remind those who didnt have them on that its the law. As we continued driving down south bound 280, the rain came down harder and harder. You could hear it pounding against our windshield. By the time we reached highway 17, the rain was coming down in sheets. Chp put out flares as a precaution, especially in an area where accidents are all too common. But those we talked to along the way didnt seem to mind a soggy end to the week. We like the rain. Reporter on monday, when we did a story about the rain, we actually saw quite a few accidents. But today, it seems perhaps drivers were more prepared. Chp says it has been relatively quiet so far. In san jose, janet o, abc7 news. The rain made driving treacherous. Check out the water right there that accumulated in San Francisco underneath highway 101. This stretch of road tends to flood frequently. As we hold you earlier, the chp warns everybody against driving through standing water. The word canceled treated some passengers at the airport today. 68 flights were canceled today. Pg e is working to restore power to customers across the bay area. The biggest outage affects more than 1,000 homes and businesses, and those are located in oakland. 680 customers are without power in occidental, and another 639 in the dark in the santa cruz mountains. A winter storm watch is in effect in the sierra with new snow coming. But sit a delight for skiers. Kristen sze has the details. But skiers need to embrace themselves for extreme winds, 50 to 80mileperhour gusts are expected. These storms continue to build the sierra snow pack, which is at 83 of normal. San Francisco Police are still searching for the driver in a fatal hit and run. It happened near china town after the corner of powell street and broadway just before 6 00 this morning. Leanne melendez is live with the latest. [ sirens ] reporter lets just way for that to go by, this fire engine. Thats right. You can imagine what it was out like this morning, very dark, very cold. And it happened so early that there was hardly anyone out here. But police are hoping that someone may have seen that driver. Just after 5 30 this morning, it was raining and dark. Terrible conditions for any driver. Police say a white van was seen driving on powell street and turned right on broadway, when he hit and killed a pedestrian. Someone spotted the body in the road and ran to the Police Station a block away. Its not clear if the 60yearold man was in the cross walk at the time. He lived in china town. We dont know if the person was dragged or the impact landed the body where it was discovered. Reporter police say the driver never stopped and continued west bound through the broadway tunnel. The white van theyre looking for has no windows and the front end is sure to have some damage. Its probably one of the reasons the guy wasnt paying attention or something. Early in the morning, somebody getting hit like that can happen any time. Reporter neighbors know cars often speed as they approach the tunnel. Oh, yeah. We can hear the noise. Reporter police are hoping surveillance camera on both sides of the tunnel will help them identify the driver. But those cameras we found had either limited range or were not working. Absolutely tragic. We want to find out who that driver is and hold them responsible. Reporter this is the fifth pedestrian killed in San Francisco so far this year. Leeann melendez, abc7 news. Police and firefightered braved torrents of water to find a gun in washington creek. That gun is linked to a possible kidnapping case that began in santa rosa. Officers arrested two people after stopping a vehicle in petaluma. Detectives say the alleged victim is not cooperating with them. Pockets of moderate to heavy rain, all pushing south and east of the golden gate right now. Rainfall totals, last 24 hours, impressive up north. Four inches of rain in the last two days. Nearly inch and a half here in San Francisco. Look at the rainfall totals in livermore and san jose. Just under 0. 3 at mountain view. Well see two more storms this weekend. One light tomorrow, one moderate on sunday. And it will be dry and warmer next week. On our storm impact scale, tomorrows storm will with a one. Just a quick burst of rain with a quarter to half inch in most areas. And starting at 10 00 tomorrow morning, well see this narrow line of showers sweeping down through the north bay first. Late afternoon, pushing south and east of the golden gate. Tomorrow evening, it will fizzle out and that will be followed by storm two on sunday, which will rank two on the storm impact scale. It will bring half an inch to inch of rain, and flooding risks with this storm in the north bay because of saturated ground. At 11 00 tomorrow night, notice the larger area of rain coming in for sunday. And it will be steadier and heavier than tomorrows rainfall. As we look ahead to rainfall totals from just the weekend, look for another two inches of rain in santa rosa. Generally 1 to 1 1 2 inches at every other location, including san jose, which hasnt got much rain for the last couple of storms. And flash flood watches in effect until sunday at 5 00 p. M. In the north bay, because of swollen creeks, rainfall could cause flooding. On we go to low temperatures tonight under cloudy conditions with occasional showers.
