Victories in ohio and florida for frontrunner donald trump could take this to a twoman race with ted cruz and potentially clear trumps path for the nomination. If donald trump sweeps, theres not going to be a contested convention. Reporter trump is facing his toughest battle in ohio. This is the place i want to win. This is going to do it. The terrifying ordeal started when a man stole a car with a woman still inside it. Janet o is live at the scene. Janet . Reporter larry, thankfully everything turned out okay. The suspect crashed right here, right across the street city officials were meeting inside the cafe. Lets just say they were at the right place at the right time. Its business as usual for city councilman raul parales. Last night he put his experience as a former San Jose Police officer to good use. I dont look at it as i did something heroic. There was an opportunity to help in this situation. Reporter he says the real heroes are these two young men. Both wearing gray sweaters, one on his cell phone calling for help, the other holding down the suspect. The victim had been wrestling with him and fighting with him and had managed to tackle him to the ground. Reporter it turns out they saw him chase the man who hijacked a man. In the back seat was Norma Gutierrez who had no idea what was going on. Translator all of a sudden this guy came over, got in the car, and i thought he was somebody that my coworkers sent to drive the car. Reporter she thought she was going to be dropped off at home after her shift. When she was realized that was not the case, this is what happened next. Translator i got the chance to get out of the car, and i jumped out of the car. Reporter gutierrez escaped with a few scratches. Today she went back to work thanking god for keeping her safe and thanking everyone else who helped end a crazy situation. In san jose, janet o, abc7 news. Police have released a surveillance image of the white van they say was involved in a fatal hit and run last friday. A man in his 60s was found dead at the scene. Here is another look at the vooek involved. Police are looking for a white van with no windows. Police are looking for the person who shot a man just before noon. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots. The victim had at least one gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital. A shelter in place for that area has been lifted. A shelter in place in lafayette has just ended. Officers were searching the area for two men. No word on why police are searching for those two men. Larry and ama . Thanks, spencer. Engineers are working to find out what caused that large sinkhole during this past weekends storms. Abc7 news was there as pg e crews finished patching up a gas distribution line that broke on sunday. That intersection will be closed until city leaders can determine exact cause and make sure its safe again. We see the sinkhole and we dont know whats going on under the pavement. So there is a possibility it is much larger. About 300 customers are still about gas service and pg e continues to go door to door to contact them and turn the gas back on. Customers will have to call and make an appointment to restore service. Highway 121 will remain closed between Wooden Valley road and circle oaks drive. A rock slide left trees and chunks of pachvement scattered across the highway. Drivers are urged to use 29 and 1 as alternatives. And take a look at this. This is on highway 3 near rush creek road in trinity county, which remains closed until crews can finish repairs. The Unified School District board is expected to make a decision about the fate of a mascot. Rebel guy has a confederate like image. It dates back to 1997. The proposed change would keep the nickname but would require a makeover of the image. San francisco unified is stepping up its efforts to recruit more black students. Back with one of the most dangerous stretches of road in San Francisco will be getting a little safer for pedestrians and drivers. Just a short time ago, San Franciscos Municipal Transportation Agency approved a 12 million safety overhaul for the area. Amy hollyfield shows us what is going to change. Reporter San Francisco is one of the citys most dangerous corridors. Were talking about the straight part that gets you to and from the golden gate bridge, not the crooked tourist attraction. Ive almost been run over a couple of times. Reporter some say it is so bad, they avoid it. Ill take chestnut or another road. Reporter transit officials have a plan, including building islanding for pedestrians so they have a safe place to stand. They also want to build more sidewalk at intersections, forcing a car to make a wider turn to the driver has a better chance of seeing a pedestrian. That makes sense. Reporter officials also want to create more sidewalk at bus stops so people have a safe place to wait. That would make sense. As you can see, its a busy road, so anything they can do to improve safety would be necessary. Reporter but this all comes at a cost. Not only 12 million it would take to construct it all, but it would lose 46 Parking Spaces. Businesses say that will hurt. Were disappointed about that. Reporter senators went for a test ride in Autonomous Cars today before the start of the hearing and they learned about these vehicles directly from the companies. Google urged the committee to give the secretary of transportation the power for approval. The dmv wants licensed drivers to be able to take control. The technology will never be perfect. But the opportunity to reduce those accidents and those tragedies is incredible. Reporter but googles safety claims took a hit last month when one of their cars hit a bus. The Election Office released some early voting ballots from one county. They show Hillary Clinton is way ahead of Bernie Sanders in the democratic primary, more than doubling his numbers. Officer Nathan Taylor was struck and killed by a car near donner summit. Melanie, you broke with those who worked with taylor. Reporter i did. Several chp officers that are based at headquarters here in san jose traveled to sacramento for a service for him this morning. One of those officers tells me that nathan was the same person professionally as he was personally. Before his passing, officer Nathan Taylor made white the impression on patty as he carried her to safety. He carried me because i hurt my ankle. She was having a little trouble walking. Reporter the moment was caught on camera. Helping others was Second Nature to officer taylor. One writes, while hitchhiking after a ski trip, officer taylor gave him a ride home. He writes im sure anybody who read that, who knew him is not surprised by that. Thats the type of thing he did. Reporter chp officer ross lee worked with officer taylor for three years in san jose. He attended a Sacramento Service in his honor this morning. Incredibly kind, caring, very, very smart. Reporter news of officer taylors death is striking beyond the Law Enforcement community. One suspect was shot dead. And as many as two others are now on the run right now. Police say the raid was linked to last years paris attacks. French police also took part in that operation. Investigators say a man shot and killed by three Chicago Police officers was a known gang member who had been arrested more than 40 times. Police say they shot and killed harris after he fired at him last night while they were investigating drug activity. Three officers were wounded. They are expected to survive.
