Reporter happy new year to you. No surprises at all. Jed york came out and said what everyone expected him to say. He did so with the appropriate humility. Just call it another black monday in the nfl. At levis stadium today, more waving of the 49ers flag. Outfront we found a diehard like jaime jesus staying true to his 214 team. Today, tomorrow, whenever. Reporter inside we had jed york, whose family did own the team, explaining his reasons for firing trent baalke and chip kelly but not firing himself. I own this football team. You dont dismiss owners. Reporter what jed york said today sounded a lot like last year after he fired jim tomsula. This isnt acceptable to me. Its not. Like our fans deserve better than this. Reporter and it sounded like the year before that after he fired jim harbaugh. I cant look backwards. We need to look forward and doing everything we can to get this team back. Reporter by instilling a winning culture, he said, by hiring a general manager and head coach on the same page. With pages from this years playbooks in trash cans in the locker room, one can only wonder who he will hire and from where. Everybody is [ bleep ] off. Everybody is embarrassed. But, again, hes the boss. You dont question your boss, do you . I did like chip. I liked him a lot. I think he was a great coach. Reporter players learned about chip kellys firing from a text last night. Jed had a team meeting with them this morning. Theres no questions from us, hes the boss. He informed us of what happened. Were rolling from here on. Thank you. Reporter and rolling out, literally, until next year whatever that brings. Do not stand in the middle of the street. Reporter from levis stadium, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. Oh, more changes, all right. So whats your take on all of this, larry . Another new coach. Year after year. Youve got to go back a few years but the biggest mistake was jed york a few years ago believing that he and trent baalke were the master minds. They created the foundation for success with jim harbaugh. No. They thought they had given harbaugh the tools and he was the workman who took the talent and put it together. No harbaugh was the guy with the secret sauce. He was the one with the magic. He was the guy that created the winning culture. They were riding piggyback on harbaugh, not the other way around. They still havent figured it out. The niners have gotten worse every single day since jim harbaugh left the building. Jim tomsula was an embarrassment. Chip never had a chance. My concern Going Forward is that jed has shown hes not capable of hiring the right people. He does not know what to be looking for here. What the niners should be doing is hiring a veteran nfl name with credibility and have that person first select your general manager, then the coach. They said today theyre not even sure what order theyre going to hire in. Again a mistake. Jeds job should be writing checks and staying out of the way. Thats it. Instead, again, he said hes not sure whether the coach or the gm will be hired first. This is history repeating itself. Its just the same cycle over and over. Maybe the niners do get lucky and find the right people. But when youre going on four head coaches in four years, thats a failure of ownership. Thats at the very top. Thats where the problem is. But as jed in one of his most honest moments said today, owners do not get dismissed. Owners get to keep owning. So well see how it plays out. But this is not that desirable a job. This and buffalo are the two least desirable openings out of six presently in the nfl. So good luck. Lets hope they get it right this time. Meanwhile the raiders would you outline that and send it to the 49ers . Listen, weve been saying the same thing for how many years already. They dont want to listen to me. I wasnt born into the family. You can watch the silver and black kick off wild card right here on abc 7. The raiders traveling to houston to take on the texans. Thats saturday, 1 30 p. M.
