Coyote creek runs through the neighborhood and floodwaters have destroyed much of what they treasured. I know we lost a lot of photos. Had a lot of clothes i liked to store. Had a lot of shoes. All my babys toys. All of his stuff down there. We saw a number of dogs being closely held by their owners as they were being ferried out of flood zone during the course of the day. We know the Fire Department had to rescue a cat trapped in a tree or had gone to save us all from the waters. San jose also involved in horse rescue in this area also had some horses ahead to be evacuated. San jose had a lot of help from other agents including the county Fire Department as well as the sheriffs office. This is ongoing situation far from over. David, do we have any idea how long all those people will have to stay out of their homes. It is unknown yet. It could be days. It could be even longer. The water here is considered contaminated. It can very well have a lot of toxins in it. If that water touches any part of apartment or home, those have to be decontaminated as well. Shows them on upper roof of apartment. For now the flooding has just affected the lower parking carports in three buildings. The drains are clogged there. Until theyre cleared, that problem is going to continue to get worse. Hundreds of other people who had to evacuate are getting help and housing tonight. Three evacuation centers. Roosevelt community center. Shir kau away center. Melony. Absolutely. Weve seen three buses dropping off evacuees here at the shelter. The shelter is still below capacity. So anyone who may still need a place to stay this evening can come here. People getting off buses tell us they are still in shock. Reporter dozens of people forced from their homes got off this bus at james high school. A now converted shelter. Some of the smallest evacuees exhausted. Brothers would have been on this bus had they been home this morning. All it was flood all over the place. I had to park across the street. Unable to get back to their apartment, they came here. I was amazed. I didnt know what to do. We have food, health service, water. We have Mental Health professionals to talk to them about recovery. A second shelter is on standby if this one reaches capacity. 240 people. The Salvation Army dropped off socks and undergarments for evacuees. Its a team effort. American red cross and us. We have to take care of our people here. Stopped by as well. I said i need to go down and see what i can do to help. She offered clothing vouchers for her boutique for those impacted. We pray for the rain. We need the rain. Its devastating now. The red cross says its still assessing victims needs and monetary donations to the red cross is the best way to help for now. The shelter here at James Lick High School cannot accommodate pets. Anyone who has a pet they need to shelter can bring their pet to san jose Animal Shelter for safekeeping. Abc 7 news. Thank you. Heres the major reason for the flooding as seen from sky seven this morning. Water pouring from Anderson Reservoir, 30 miles away near morgan hill. Manmade lake reached capacity and began spilling saturday. First time it happened in 11 years. Important to note, anderson dam isnt seismically sound. Reservoir is supposed to be kept at 68 capacity because the dam could fail in an earthquake with the magnitude. Water overflowing is now flooding highway 101 within the last half hour, confirmed abc 7 news, northbound 101 betwewill n closed until 11 00 tomorrow night. Heres a look at highway 101 and just how close it is to Anderson Reservoir. This is going to be a difficult area to navigate for the next 24 hours at a minimum. Lets head to Spencer Christian right now. Start by giving you a look at the Flood Warning area. Here it is on the graphic. Wide area all it will way down to coyote. Turned warning until friday morning at 10 31. Heres a closer look. Lets talk about the current height of the creek. Its at 13. 3 feet. Flood stage is only ten feet. Right now about 3. 3 feet above flood stage. Its estimated to be below flood stage by 8 00 tomorrow night. Now, 1 00 this afternoon, coyote creek appeared to have crested at 13. 6 feet. The last two hours been at 13. 3. If it continues to recede, may very well develop below flood stage. Life doppler shows isolated showers along the way. Nothing falling in the area of coyote creek right now. Good news. The showers have been popping up and producing heavy downpours. They can develop at just about any time as long as this system is with us. This current storm ranks one on the storm impact scale. Going into this evening we can expect rapidly moving downpours ending after 7 00 p. M. Or so with less than a quarter inch of rain fall to be produced from whats remaining in the storm. And where was the water. Water was right below us. People were rescued from the rising creek waters near the golf course. San jose urban rescue task force scoured the area for nearly two hours. All of the water in the coyote creek water shed is dangerous. Its swift moving. Its carrying debris from areas that havent seen water in years and on top of that, it may be contamina contamina contaminated. Reporter this resks is the second this week. Advise People Living in the homeless encampments to leave the area prior to this rainy winter season. We have since the beginning of ts winter to move their encampments away from the water ways.
