Of those just over 1700 were deemed chronically homeless meaning theyve lived out here for more than a year, suffer from Mental Illnesses and have a drugs and alcohol problem. Theyre the ones ending up in Emergency Shelter systems and shelters at night. They cant even live on their own if we got them a room. In bad shape. Reporter the nonprofit Tipping Points focuses on eradicating poverty in the area few have succeeded. The chronic Homeless Population not only needs to be housed but has to have services attached to their placements. Reporter an example the city wanted to expand the respite and Sobering Center but lacked funds and Tipping Point donated 30,000 to add beds and now has 75. Those with psychiatric needs will get specific treatment they would never get in a shelter. The nonprofit is known for its accountability.
