We begin this morning with breaking news. A minor Traffic Accident on interstate 280 has led to a shooting in the bay view involving an offduty San Francisco police officer. The fenderbender occurred on the freeway, but the shooting happened when the officer and the other driver pulled off the road just after midnight. The two got into a physical altercation and during the scuffle the unidentified female officer fired her gun, striking the other person in the leg. Police say the victim has a minor leg wound and refused medical treatment. Developing news, theres been another possible arson incident in san jose this morning. A small fire extinguished at 24th and santa clara streets this morning is linked to several other cases by san jose fire officials. Investigators say a firebug struck at least ate other times since wednesday. Yesterday setting a victorian home on fire with two people inside. This Morning Police have released a sketch of a possible suspect. Firefighters are offering a big reward to catch the arsonist. Abc7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian tells us worried neighbors will distribute this sketch door to door today. The fire ravaged this victorian home before dawn. It belonged to an elderly couple who moved in 50 years ago. They barely got out alive. They opened the door and tell them get out. Get out. The house is on fire. Jose helped them escape. Hes learning more about what he can do as a Downtown Resident to protect himself from an arsonist. You dont know who did this . Don is part of the 13th street neighborhood advisory committee. Hes talking with his neighbors about the man investigators believe started at least eight fires. Hopefully this person realizes folks are after them and stops doing this because its be a excusely outrageous. This is video from a surveillance camera across the street. You see a man walking back and forth four times before the fire. Police want to talk to him. These fires this targeted san jose residents in the darkest hours of the night when they are most vulnerable. Volunteers will go door to door passing out the sketch and information. One fire is one fire too many. Its clear this is a guy who intends to do harm and weve got to do everything we can to protect each other. The Firefighters Union is offering a 10,000 reward. In san jose, Lisa Amin Gulezian, abc7 news. In morning investigators plan to enter a palo alto house where two bodies were found friday following a fire. Flames broke out about 7 15 friday night in a home on the 900 block of embarcadero road. The structure is still not stable. Crews have not been able to go inside yet. A next door neighbor said a man and his caretaker lived in the home. Their names have not been released. This morning a man who was shot in San Franciscos Mission District is recovering from surgery. It was just after 5 30 last night when Police Received a report of a gunshot victim. He was found on shotbell street between 23rd and 24th streets and rushed to the hospital. Bad weather is preventing a Recovery Team from reaching the site where a plane crash killed a bay area tech executive. Dalesmith and family members crashed in december. The wreckage was found friday, nearly a month and a half after the plane disappeared from radar in a remote part of idaho. His wife spoke with abc7 news. We have waited a long time to have some kind of closer and we kind of knew their chances were not good. This has allowed us to just identify exactly what happened and to move on and not be in that waiting place. The man who found the wreckage, dalesmiths brother, spoke with abc7 news by phone yesterday. You are just so happy that you found the plane, you know, and then after a couple of seconds that kind of disappears and the grief hits you because you found the plane. Crews will meet tomorrow to consider options for reaching the remote crash site and recovering those bodies. The effort to create a park in memory of slain 13yearold andy lopez will cost sonoma somewhere between 2 million and 3 million. Andy lopez was shot to death october 22nd by a Sonoma County sheriffs deputy while carrying a bb gun designed to look like an ak47 assault rifle. A memorial is being rebuilt in the viola cant lot where he died but Community Members angered by the shooting want a park to be built there and named for him. County supervisors are pretty eager to try to heel the rift. One tells the Sonoma County press democrat the money could come out of a reserve fund. 7 million have already been set aside for recreational access. The nationwide flu outbreak continues to bro. Officials have confirmed 7 bay area deaths due to the flu. Two others in the county have been attributed to the virus but Health Officials are still waiting for test results to come back. This year the flu is not just affecting the very young and old. More than 60 of patients are between 18 and 64. Thats twice as many as last year. According to the cdc, 37 states highlighted here in red are reporting widespread flu activity. In san rafael, Medical Center of marin sponsored a free flu clinic yesterday. The goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible in the community to help stop the virus from spreading. I try to encourage everyone to get a flu shot because the flu shot will help protect you against several various other flus, including the h1n1 virus which is the most virulent of the group and causing the most deaths. According to the state health department, getting the flu shot can reduce your chances of getting the virus by 50 to 70 . The cdc has a finder map that has all the places near you that offer the vaccine, including prices and hours. We have a link on our website. A fisherman was rescued after his boat got stuck in the mud near the dumbarton bridge. It happened just before 6 00 last night. The fisherman got stuck on the eastern side of the bridge. Rescue crews brought him into east palo alto. The man was hurt. He hurt his foot in the incident, but he declined to go to the hospital. A sharpeyed morgan hill resident reported a copper wire theft. There were 15 street lights in their electrical boxes damaged and 2700 feet of copper wire missing last week. The cost to repair the damage has not been determined. Police dont have any suspects. They are asking residents to report any suspicious activity. Turning to the weather, some muchneeded rain has finally come back to the bay area. It happened yesterday. This video was taken in San Franciscos chinatown. The roads were also wet in marin with the north bay seeing most of the rain. From oakland into San Francisco just past the toll plaza on the approach to the bay bridge only a few sprinkles. The storm system brought a welcome site in tahoe, snow. This is video of heavenly mountain yesterday afternoon, courtesy tahoe tv. It was only a few inches but it is the first measurable snow around tahoe since early december. The snow isnt such a welcome sight outside of california and now millions are dealing with more than just cold and ice. Rain is causing new concerns. And fierce winds more than 80 miles an hour toppled big rigs like that one in montana and funnel clouds have been reported near raleigh, north carolina. Heres lindsay. The polar vortex stopped, triggering massive flooding. Ive lived here five years now and this is the first time that it has needed this area. In palm beach county, florida nearly 22 inches of rain in 24 hours. Residents waiting kneedeep. Some even using kayiaks to escape. It hasnt been here since hurricane katrina. The driver of this s. U. V. Died because she couldnt see where the street ended and the canal began. In georgia strong winds sent a tree crashing through the roof of this mobile home, pinning a 14yearold girl inside to the floor. A delicate situation where we had to keep the tree stable at all times so it didnt continue to fall on this young lead. Rescuers used an air bag to drop up the tree to save her. Her nearby koss sin was rescued, too. Funnel clouds in north carolina. And heavy winds ripping through the houses being built. Farther north, a raceway, the starting gate sent this plowing into horses. Those horses are all okay. And for lead performer kevin woo, this is a welcomed homecoming. I havent lived in the bay area since i was 16, a freshman in high school. He grew up in danville and went to mont vista high school. He joined the band four years ago. Since then its been a whirlwind adventure into the k pop scene. I know its getting bigger. Im pretty sure a lot of kpop groups will be coming to the states. Their Youtube Video rack up views by the millions and their fans are not shy about screaming their adoration. So heres a look at live doppler 7hd. Not picking up the rain this morning, but certainly some clouds around the bay, some low clouds and also high clouds which have reduced visibility in spots. From our roof camera it looks quiet. Temperatures in the upper 50s San Francisco with oakland coming in in the 50s. 39 in redwood city. Down on the peninsula we are looking at numbers a little cooler while our coast is in the upper 40s. 46 in san jose. Our exploratorium come raw looking at the city with numbers much, much cooler up by the delta and the north bay where numbers are probably going to however around freezing in santa rosa. You have the ground fog there. 37 there. Petaluma upper 30s and freezing conditions in fairfield. 40 in concord. You do have fog out toward the Livermore Valley. Our forecast highlights from our emeryville camera not as much fog as yesterday but we will see more forming in the morning hours. Then a return to sunny conditions today with near record warmth as we head into tuesday and wednesday. That ridge really begins to build tomorrow. So heres a look at the beach hazard once again with the northwesterly swells continuing to build throughout the day today. They will subside by tomorrow but if you are headed out today from anywhere around point reyes, the Sonoma County coast all the way down through monterey looks kind. Dicey out there so be careful. Quarter mile visibility from napa. Halfmile by the delta. The coast at 4 miles. Take a look at oakland and livermore. Pretty foggy out there. Be careful as you head on out. High pressure sits offshore. It will allow for the cloud cover this morning from the moisture of yesterdays rain. Then that pushes through and we will look for yet another sunny afternoon. So in terms of the outlook, it lookslike this high right now is going to continue to build. As it does the flow around the high becomes offshore and maybe some gusty winds into the middle of the week this will allow for temperatures to steadily climb. Today numbers coming up out of the 50s for most. Although Half Moon Bay should be in the upper 50s with the high surf. 62 in palo alto, 63 in fremont. Mid60s down toward morgan hill with about 62 in napa. Heres the accuweather sevenday forecast. The numbers slowly climb for the beginning of the work week. Then looking at the warming trend really for tuesday, wednesday. Look at the 70s. Not what you should be seeing in january.
