Abc7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian reports on the protest using streamed video that was posted online. Reporter cries for justice while hundreds protested the district attorneys ticket to clear the officer of any wrongdoing. Officer mistook the teenagers air soft pellet gun for a real assault rifle. [chanting] the protests took a surprising turn as a group of activists split from the majority and marched up the third street offramp of northbound 101. Once on the street. Protesters were met by dozens of officers. The group made another unexpected move by marching straight into macys and santa rosa plaza. Everybody was standing off to the side, letting them pass a lot of cheering. They were very, very passionate. They had the signs and everything. About 50 people packed the main aisle of the lower level of macys. The employees didnt find it to be disruptive. I think people need an opportunity to be heard is if you were to squash that or it could be worse. Support he is vowed to keep up the fight. They want the officer gone. There was a force off between San Francisco police and a man with a gun hold up inside his home near Saint Charles avenue and randolph streets. Officers evacuated homes. Man was threatening suicide, they say. Standoff ended peacefully, just before 11 00 last night. Officers say the man surrendered and is now in police custody. Police in north bay want to question a man with a deadly hitandrun. Chp investigators believe 30yearold man was driving south of santa rosa on petaluma road near hunter lane when he hit and killed a man walking on the street just after 4 00 yesterday morning. His car has been recovered. The man has been identified of santa rosa. A man who lost 18 years of his life after being wrongly convict already receive a 3. 5 million payment from the city of San Francisco. Mr. Connelly filed a lawsuit against the city for that amount. According to the San Francisco chronicle the city agreed to pay t he was convicted in the double murder and sentenced to two life terms, but in december of 2012, a judge found that Police Investigators knew the star witness against connelly lied on the stand about being paid but did nothing about it. Cleanup crews will be back at the union square this morning after a water main break flooded the basements of some very highend school. The contractor hit an 8inch water main yesterday morning. Angry protests are in one town said they wont stop until the man known as the pillowcase rapist moves out. The man has admitted to raping 40 women between 1971 and 1982 in the bay area. He used pillowcases to muffle screams. Last month it was determined his home was in los angeles. Last week he was taken to a home east of palmdale after his release from a state hospital. He was greeted with protesters who hung pillowcases on the fence and chanted a convicted serial rapest is not welcome in their town. We tried to put his face out everywhere so people recognize him. We are a rural area and we are afraid he will hurt someone. They said they will continue the fight until he leaves their community. Theres a big spike in the amount of rescue calls they are getting. A look at what is behind the increase. This frantic scene on the california coast, a swimmer unable to climb out of the churning water, is becoming far too common. Weve had 50 rescues in this particular area and thats only a halfmile stretch of coastline. 50 rescues . 50 rescues. Across l. A. County, coastal rescues are up 300 percent over last year. Problem . Warm, hot weather means a lot more swimmers in the water. Plus teenagers are sharing videos like these on social media, luring others to some of the most treacherous hidden coffees along the coast. This 9yearold woman is the amazing woman that set the stage for this victory 230 years ago. Olga was a lawyer about to retire when she went on a trek to nepal. We ran across many, many children on the trail, and they all wanted to go to school. Sending those children to school became her obsession. She founded the Nepal Youth Foundation that gave us this video. She provided scholarships, homes for abandoned children, nutrition us programs, and then they began rescuing girls sold into bondage. Little tiny girls, six, seven, eight, nine years off, going off to a city, working 18 hours a day. The rescue effort was led by a man who years before he himself received a scholarship from olga. Now shes president of a youth foundation. Nobody paid attention that little girls are being sold and bought every day. They were sold by their own parents, desperately poor families who felt they had no other way to survive. They would work for a year and then be sold again for the next year. The Foundation Came one a plan, an incentive. If parents sent their girls to school instead of work. Each family a baby pig let and they could raise that pig let and at the end of the year sell it for as much or more than they got for their daughters labor. The results are phenomenal. Almost 13,000 girls freed from slavery inning a little more than a deck a. Most of the rescued girls are in school but the older ones also get vocational training. A loan fund is helping them start businesses. We trained the only woman plummer in nepal, the only motorcycle repair shop in nepal that is run by a woman. Some of the girls have been extremely successful, supporting their parents, supporting their own college education. The foundation now gets contributions from around the world. But the first donors were all from the bay area. And the tradition continues. These marin county middle school girls raised money with bake sales, babysitting and a readathon. Back in nepal a big Public Awareness campaign has virtually eliminated the practice of selling children. Earlier this year old ga was at a public celebration for freed girls. Just in front of me were girls that were freed and just taken the College Entrance exam and were going to college. I thought this is victory. Abc7 news. Those young women who started businesses have started 40,000 in a lone fund to free will girls. The need is huge so a foundation is helping to match that investment with 40,000 more.
