The morello onramp sounded like a tanker truck slid off the roadway, chp is saying, thats not true. But just a minor issue right now. Well take a look at some fairly light drive times coming up next. The red Tag Department building in pacifica teetering on a crumbling cliff above the ocean is finally coming down. The city council decided to demolish it last night. Amy hollyfield is live with what happens next. Reporter reggie, they say this building can collapse any minute now, you see its got a protective fence in front of it and you see all fence. Ocean view now blocked by this protective fence but now the city is ready to take it one step further. The cliff is eroding quickly, especially over the last several weeks. Officials are worried pieces of this Apartment Building will fall into the ocean and contaminate it with lead and asbestos. The Property Owner is not going to pay for the demolition. He has declared bankruptcy so the city of pacifica has decided to do it. This is not simple for the city to do and in fact, if the implications of having it fall to the beach werent so dire, in other words, the cost being so much higher, we would not be taking these action. Reporter this demolition will cost the city about 200,000. That will come out of the citys discretionary fund. The city Council Voted unanimous unanimously to do this. This will be the third Apartment Building here on esplanade to be demolished. The work could start as early as next week if the weather cooperates. Live in pacifica, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. In santa cruz county, crews are working overtime to get roads in shape. The roads are not in good condition. Crews are working to clear mud slides off of the road. Theyre also working with pg e pg e where trees have come down on to the power lines. A lot of residents are watching the san lorenzo river. You can see the drains feeding the river are almost full. There have been plenty of closures because of the flooding and gilroy, the creek overflow crowsing Christmas Hill park. North bay drivers were not slowing down a bit on todd road. Take a look on highway 1 near valley ford, another driver made a typical mistake and you know the general rule, if you cant see the yellow line, you have to turn around. The woman got trapped there and was eventually carried to safety by a milk truck delivery man. Boats cut loose from tuesday nights storm floundered on the roksz. Most of the boats came from sausalito. If youre thinking about heading up to the sierra, make other plans. Eastbound 80 is closed to certain big rigs. It was closed in both directions yesterday because of all the snow. Trucks blocked most of the freeway until crews were able to tow them out. There was so many accidents. The approaching storm may force yosemite to close because of flooding. It caused extensive damage to roads and campgrounds in the late 90s. The damage was so bad it forced the park to close for go months while if repairs were made. Officials will decide in the next day or two whether to shut down the park. An oil platform is on fire in the gulf of mexico right now, and the coast guard actually just rescued four people. Those people actually jumped into the cold gulf waters to escape from the fire. Its all happening 80 miles south of grand isle, which is off the coast of louisiana. Flames could reportedly be seen around 2 30 this morning. In the last few minutes, though, i have seen reports showing that they have a handle on it and its almost out. Ill be watching for any images that come in from that area. Detectives shared this image on the man on facebook frozen from the Surveillance Video inside of the restaurant. Witnesses say the trouble all started when the man complained about his order. Youre now looking at the car that he drove away in. Bay area Police Unions calling for the removal of a Student Painting depicting officers in a negative light. Our media partner obtained a picture of the painting. This is said to portray social injustice. It actually won a congressional art competition last year. The painting is now hanging at the u. S. Capitol but san jose, oakland, and San Francisco Police Unions are now calling on House Speaker paul ryan to remove it, saying the painting is disrespectful and that it could actually endanger thelize of officers. An escaped sex offender wanted in Washington State is in custody this morning after making it all the way to the bay area. Our media partner reports officers arrested 35yearold george blare at a homeless camp near the North Berkeley safeway on tuesday. They say that he escaped from a Community Custody program in spokane in october and had been on the run ever since. He failed to registe as a sex offender following a california conviction in the late 90s. Hes being held without bail. The white house wants to speed up plans for californias controversial delta tunnels project. The administration is ordering federal officials to finish a preliminary Environmental Review of the 15 billion plan this month. It is a big step toward construction of the two tunnels that are intended to carry water from the San Joaquin Delta to the bay area. Critics say diverting water would hurt fish and wildlife. Supporters say the tunnel would boost the water supply for 25 million californians. All right, what were dealing with, Cool Conditions and eventually gusty winds. Two teenagers are now recovering after they fell through the ice there, and you can see two firefighters trying to get one of the boys. They do eventually pull him to safety using a rope. The other teen managed to get out of the lake on his own. The 15yearolds were taken to the hospital for treatment. Crews believe the boys spent about 28 minutes in that freezing water. And arizona Police Officer caught on camera punching a woman in the face resigned just hours before the department was going to fire him. Cell phone video from november shows the altercation. You see it here in just a second. And there you go. The flag staff Police Department was going to fire the officer yesterday. He ended up calling in the morning and resigned before they got to it. The officer claims that he was defending himself, saying the woman kicked him first. She denies that claim. No charges have been filed yet as two investigations are now underway. The university of california plans to raise tuition for the first time in six years. Under the proposal, tuition would increase by 282 and the Student Services fee would increase by 5 54. The university estimated that Financial Aid would cover the increases for about twothirds increases for about twothirds of the universitys california residents. Thats not causing any big slowdowns. They may have to block a lane but emergency crews are on the scene and so far thats really a nonissue. Issue are San Francisco bay ferry this morning. Mechanical the vallejo 6 30 and 8 30 a. M. Trips will be replaced by bus service. Return fripz from San Francisco will be replaced by buses and the alleged oakland 7 25 and 7 40 trips all out canceled this morning. This is due to those mechanical issues. We will take a look at our drive times coming up. The makers of a pillow that you probably seen advertised over and over again on television is now being accused of lying to its customers. The Better Business bureau has downgraded the rating of my pillow from an a minus to an f. Youre looking at a you tube video. You probably recognize this. The interconnectivity to the internet will make it easier for your appliances to get software updates, even a diagnostic to identify needed repairs. People will just sort of expect this of their appliances. Reporter cars are already beginning to talk to each other too. The new vehicle to vehicle or v to i, vehicle to infrastructure technology, is already here. Audi has a system that does it right now. Thats cars talking to each other, in other words, to avoid collisions, for instance, and provide warnings to the drivers. Or talking to infrastructure like stoplights, for instance. The audi system allows you to see how much time is left before the light turns green. Reporter fleets of selfdriving cars are already being tested in Mountain View but Consumer Reports says, dont expect to see these in wide use outside of these test areas. He says more detailed mapping needs to be done. Its going to take a long time for the data about those roads to really become useful enough to these systems that you can expect to drive a selfdriving car.
