They start to taper off by 8 00. 10 00, most of us dry, even a little bit of sunshine in parts of the north bay. Noon, youre looking good. If you have plans to do anything outdoors, today is the day to do it because we have more rain and an even bigger storm on the way. The bay area isnt the only place getting rain. A winter storm has wreaked havoc in Southern California. Two cars fell into a massive sinkhole. The first car fell into the crumbling roadway in studio city last night. One driver was taken to the hospital. A short time later, a second car fell in. The driver had already gotten out. Crews pulled out one car out of the sinkhole so far. Theyre trying to do that without causing any more damage to the road and just as incredible, a fire engine calling into a collapsed road. This is on interstate 15 in San Bernadino county. It happened last night. Just incredible. Firefighters got out safely before it fell. Southern california is getting record amounts of rain, as much as 6 inches in some areas. One of those people who died in Southern California was found inside a car that was fully submerged in flood waters. This happened yesterday in victorville. Several other cars were being swept away as the rain turned streets into rivers. Back here in the bay area, this is the outlet from the Anderson Reservoir in morg into coyote creek. Its letting out a ton of water, but it really cant keep up with the rain. Water officials are in a race against time to release as much water as possible to prevent flooding. The storms have outpaced the ability of the outlet to release the water. 99 of capacity. Reporter morgan hill resident steve james says the water is within a foot of the spillway top. Its at 624. 3 feet and that concretes at 625. Reporter if you think the outlets impressive, just wait for the spillway. Its like that only about ten times bigger splash, because it drops over a 70foot cliff. Its cool but im a little nervous. Reporter areas along coyote creek could experience flooding. As long as this thing doesnt break or we dont get to jump on canoes or nothing like that, well be all right. Reporter the dam is slated for earthquake retrofitting but is otherwise fine, making it a fascinating spectacle for locals. Its so cool. Its my first time. Its just to cool. Well, this morning, an air and water search continues for a missing boater in richardson bay. Gusting winds flipped the boat over yesterday afternoon sending three men into the water off the coast in sausalito. Firefighters rescued the two other men who were clinging to the hull. The missing man was trying to swim to shore. An oakland man who was shot by police during a standoff yesterday died last night. He went on a bizarre shooting rampage at his home near the oakland zoo, firing shots at officers, even taking aim at our sky7 helicopter. After an hour, police shot Jesse Enjaian. Abc7 News ReporterSergio Quintana tells us he had been shooting up the neighborhood for the last week. Reporter he fired at officered from a second story window and fired from his front lawn. He was ultimately shot by police and died several hours after being rushed to a local hospital. Neighbors tell us this wasnt is first time 32yearold Jesse Enjaian shot up the neighborhood. Friday night, he shot up my son is friends car. Reporter neighbor Clifton Simpson says the police were called both times but enjaian was not taken into custody. Residents have been on edge. You dont know what this guys going to do. If he did that twice, you dont know when hes going to snap. Reporter one neighbor who dna want to talk on camera said the shootout was startling. As i pulled the shade back, i heard more rounds and so i thought, well maybe someones shooting at me. Reporter at one point, enjaian painted something on his neighbors garage and even pointed his rifle at our sky7 chopper as it hovered overhead. He was shot sortly after that. Simpson says his neighbor should have been arrested several days. They should have got him friday night. Reporter its still not clear what set off enjaians shooting spree. Enjaian agree up in fremont at american high school, he was on the swim team and did shot put for the track team. A district spokesperson said he was a good student. In 2013, he earned his law degree from the university of michigan. During his time there, police investigated enjaian for stalking a fellow student. He was never charged. Train trouble for caltrain this morning. The Trump Administration announced itsedlying grant mony. As abc7 News Reporter kate larson explains, the delay could keep caltrain from modernizing and growing. Reporter the Trump Administrations first big blow to the bay area is leaving caltrain in the lurch. The federal government is putting a hold on 647 million meant to electrify the old diesel trains to ultimately save money and increase ridership, but to caltrain officials, the decision to defer the money is a potential deal breaker. Its shovel ready now. Were ready to proceed with construction but we cant do that unless we issue a notice to proceed and if we cant meet that march 1 deadline, the viability of the project is really in question. Reporter 60,000 people ride caltrain between San Francisco and the south bay every day. Now many are concerned that without the 647 million, the Train Service wont continue to grow. Some days were bursting at the seams where the entire train is completely crowded, just wall to wall people because thats the demand. The demand is very, very high for sure. We live in the silicon valley, and we should be more advanced than having diesel trains. Reporter but former state senator, often called the father of high speed rail, didnt like how caltrain appropriated the money for the project in the first place. Hundreds of thousands of commuters face major problems when b. A. R. T. Went on strike in 2013. State Senate Democrat steve glazer has written a bill that would ban b. A. R. T. s unionized workers from striking. Blazer has written another bill that would nonunion b. A. R. T. Employees to run the system during future strikes. The bills will now go to a senate committee. Some east bay taxi drivers are calling for more Safety Measures on a road near the Oakland Airport after a car plunged into the water yesterday morning, killing the driver. Its the second time this has happened in the last six weeks. The sedan was pulled out just before noon. Some longtime taxi drivers want the city to put in safety barriers to prevent another death there. Yeah, this is not the first time ive witnessed more than eight, same thing, driving into that particular place. They should put some kind of wall over there by the water. At least safe a life. In Southern California, a tree came crashing down yesterday afternoon on a townhouse in san diego. The tree fell on a townhouse in scrips ranch, splitting the home in half. The man and toddler who lived there were downstairs fortunately. Nobody was injured. A storm hitting Southern California is the strongest to hit the region in about six years. The torrential rain is flooding roads. The rain has turned a garage into a water fall there. Water is just pouring down the stairwell. East of pasadena, the city of duarte is warning residents to leave because of the possibility of mudslides but many are staying put and putting barriers around their homes. Today we have lingering showers to contend with. Live doppler 7 showing us the scattered nature of the showers and that will diminish throughout the Morning Hours. Heres a live shot in san jose where we still see some wet roads right now so theres some light rain falling over parts of the bay area. Temperatures are mainly in the low 50s. San francisco 53, oakland 51, san jose currently 52 degrees and heres a live view from the east bay looking out towards the bay bridge. Heres what you need to know for today. Scattered showers lingering throughout the Morning Hours but get ready. We have an Even Stronger storm coming in late tomorrow night into monday. And thats when im really worried about. And then we have that wet pattern that continues into next week. So today, were in a storm level 1. Tomorrows storm is also going to be rated 1, a light on our storm impact scale. Well have morning showers sunday and then that will start to develop into widespread afternoon rain. Well be breezy as well. And ill show you the forecast animation. So today, by noon, if you want to do anything outdoors, it will be a good day to do it. Finally get a break from the rain. Well see pockets of showers still in the south bay but notice mostly dry into the evening hours and then tomorrow morning, well wake up to light scattered showers around the bay area. It will increase in strength. The breeze will develop tomorrow afternoon. So we could see some moderate rain tomorrow afternoon in some areas and then look at how things pick up by late sunday night into monday. That could be a big mess luckily, monday is a holiday so not too many people on the roads. But look out for a messy commute then. Highs today in the upper 50s to near 60 so breezy along the coast as well. Fairly comfortable temperatures and also if youre heading up to the sierra, hold off until about 10 00 this morning. Theres a Winter Weather advisory. We are expecting 48 inches above 6,000 feet and even higher and more on the peaks, gusty winds still pretty dangerous to drive out there but again, this afternoon will be a good time to drive because theres a winter storm watch in effect and that kicks in tomorrow morning through monday night. Thats the other time you do not want to be driving through the sierra. So if you do have to head through, today would be your best bet this afternoon or hold off until tuesday if you can. Here are the chances of rain for the next seven days. And check it out. Weve got today, a level 1, level 1 for tomorrow and then i bumped it up to a level 3. So this is going to a fairly strong storm on monday. Flooding is going to be a possibility and a concern. Power outages, downed trees, well expect to see that.
