New this morning, this huge eucalyptus tree is blocking a Pleasant Hill roadway. The tree came crashing down around 12 15 this morning. Chp says the tree is covering about 40 feet of the street and its about 30 feet high. No word on any injuries or when the lanes will reopen. A 10monthold is recovering this morning after the family dog attacked him in concord. The baby is being treated for btes to his head. Officers say they had no choice but to shoot and kill the dog. Abc7 News Reporter katie utehs has the story. Reporter Concord Police shot and killed a family dog that moments earlier attacked a 10monthold boy. The dog was very aggressive, actually, took an aggressive stance towards our officer and thats why our officer discharged his firearm. Reporter an officer ran inside to get the baby. When the officer pulled him out, quite the emotional scene, having to wrap his head. Reporter the boy underwent surgery at oakland Childrens Hospital after suffering bites to the head. Hes expected to be okay. But his 7yearold brother is struggling after witnessing the traumatic attack. The 7yearold started screaming, which caught moms attention. Mom came in there, was able to pull the child away and prevent any further attack. And that probably saved his life. Reporter the German Shepherd mastinn mix named charlie was 80 pounds. The mother stepped out of the room for a moment. Talking mom, it sounds like the dog never showed any signs of aggression in the past. Reporter neighbors tell abc7 the dog was aggressive, one neighbor saying it attacked her dog a few years ago. Contra costa Animal Services is investigating. In the east bay, katie utehs, abc7 news. Reporter the flood water has receded from the south bay Mobile Home Park. Now the focus is getting hot water. I had to buy a hot plate from frys for 20 bucks and using the microwave and heating up water. Reporter bonnie is the assistant manager. She and her husband have been without gas for three days and very cold nights. Its been hard on him without having the heat. When youre 70something, you need your heat. Reporter now theyre among the lucky ones. Their gas is back on. Park utilities is going door to door, relighting pilot rights. The great thing about it is that people always smile when you knock on the door and say theyre going to have hot water. Reporter because of the utility situation, city officials have not completely lifted the Evacuation Order but Park Management is encouraging people to return. Weve had three break ins, unfortunately, so weve told them if they can, try to come back home. Reporter people continue to toss out their water logged and contaminated belongings. These are hard times for flood victims. Janet chields knows. She had to evacuate her mobile home tuesday and shes an expert in traumatic stress. Its going to be a onestop shop for evacuees hoping to get bok on their feet. Advocates, insurance providers and emergency agencies will be on hand. The city of san jose is trying to figure out how much damage there is in order to get state and federal Disaster Relief funding. Yesterday, city workers had dumpsters set up to help people get rid of furniture, piles of clothes and anything else damaged in this weeks flood. Its a god send. Theyre well organized and its really a god send. The city says it will have dumpsters in all three of the areas inundated by flood waters. Our Media Partners reported by sunday night, johnny munoz went out to his car around the corner of the restaurant to find his car broken into. Three people jumped and robbed him. No one was hurt. The Alameda CountySheriffs Department has confirmed a body found along Alameda Creek in fremont is that of jayda jenkins. The 18yearold from tracy had been missing for more than a month. January 21, her car went off niles canyon road and into the creek. Rescue workers searched the creek for days but that search was hampered by storms. Thursday night, a man walking his dogs found jenkins body 11 miles from where her car crashed. Her family, we have been in touch with them. They were relieved to know that we found jayda. They now can begin their closure, begin to start healing. And begin to try to make sense of this tragedy. Sergeant kelly said theres nothing to indicate foul play. Well, shes just one day old but a baby girl in the east bay has already taken her parents on a wild ride. As abc7 News ReporterElissa Harrington tells us, the baby was born in the car outside the hospital. Reporter a special and fast delivery for kim gooden and dan stone of oakland. Their baby girl amaro surprised everyone when she decided to make her arrival in the backseat of a car. It was sort of a mellow night at home, a slow kind of normal labor, and then within about a half an hour, it just it was mayhem. Reporter and by morning, things took off. They got into the car for the short drive to the hospital, but amaro would not wait. The head was already crowning when we got to the hospital. Reporter the family got as far as that driveway. Thats the Valet Parking dropoff right in front of the hospital. A nurse who had just rafd for her shift heard screaming and jumped into action. She called for a code stork, an emergency announcement that lets the hospital know theres a baby being born outside. Surveillance video shows the crowd of hospital staff surrounding the car. That nurse has 32 Years Experience but thursday was the first time she delivered a baby on her own. I think i was kind of in denial that it was happening, and then i was just relieved that there were people there and i felt very safe and like everyone had it under control.
