Sri, thank you. Pride weekend is in full swing. Festivities have been going off without a hitch, but the real test will be today. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to turn out for the 47th annual pride parade and afterparty at civic center plaza. Abc 7 News Reporter lisa has the story. Reporter the Party Continues in the castro. Where locals and tourists unite for some fun and police are also out to make sure everyone is safe. Very, very much multiplied this year. Im seeing three to four times the usual Police Presence for pride weekend. Reporter the San Francisco Police Department is at full staff this weekend. Everyone is working and all vacations have been cancelled. With an extra one Million People in the city for pride weekend, and with recent terrorist attacks taking place worldwide, everyone is on high alert. Make us aware that things are more real now. Reporter police made with bar owners this month to talk about safety protocols. Phas five times more security er than usual this weekend. Last year we had pulse right before pride, and we felt we needed to elevate our security then. And were doing the same thing this year just to keep our customers safe and the neighborhood safe as well. Reporter at the celebrations at civic center plaza. There is increased security screening, attendees have to go through metal detectors and have bags checked. Police are in crowds, in plain clothes, and on rooftops. Measures many think are now necessary. I always look for where the closest police is located and i always watch people, their body language, how theyre roog around, gestures theyre making. And again, that was lisa. One year after the pulse nightclub shooting in orlando, survivors and friends and family was victims travelled to San Francisco to join the pride parade. Abc 7 news spoke with a man whos best friend was killed in the nightclub shooting. That happens to be one of the very last things he did for me. Was there at pulse that night, standing on the patio, he put his arm around me like he always did and he said, i love you. Brandon wolf is keeping his friends legacy alive through the drew project. Its a group that is named after Christopher Andrew who was one of the 49 People Killed at pulse last year. The nonprofit gives scholarships for members of the Lgbt Community and provides a leadership opportunity. The things people remember about pulse ten years from now i hope are the things like the drew project, the things that are love, unity, compassion. There is always more. That we can do in order to protect future kids, teens, adults, anybody who is in threat of being attacked. Federal investigators are looking at a small plane that crashed about a football fields length away from where it was supposed to land. Abc 7 news was just outside the san Martin Airport south of morgan hill where the single engine zest in a 182 crashed just after 5 00 last night. The pilot was the only one on board and he walked away with cults to his face. A man driving by on highway 101 saw what happened and rushed over to help. So in the south bay today, shy of average was 79 in san jose, look for 75 closer to the bay around milpitas and sunnyville.
