Should be wrapping up as we speak, but we did have oneway Traffic Control in effect since about 9 00 last night. A little delay on the westbound side. A little delay on the eastbound side as you approach from sears point. Ill keep an eye on that. Also, check of the south bay. Northbound 101, san jose, 101 and 880, doing okay, seeing light volume so far food. We do have a rollover crash on highway 17. Well look at that next. We are still tracking that breaking news in the east bay right now. Investigators giving us an update on a deadly officerinvolved shooting overnight in livermore. Heres a live look at that investigation under way right now. Where police have just finished updating the media about the events that led to the shooting. Heres what we already know. Late last night, police were called to a Mobile Home Park in livermore. There was a standoff and two hours later, the man lit a fire inside the home. You can see how big those flames are. Eventually, the man came out holding a gun but refused to follow police orders. Thats when police fired at the man. Firefighters then got the fire out quickly. That man did not survive. Hundreds of people gathered to march for peace in charlottesville, virginia, after more fallout to President Trump after his comments about shared blame for last weekends deadly rally. Instead of as early as 7 15, like in the past. 400 other School Districts across the country have also switched to a later start time, and they have reported that attendance and grades are up. A student who was on the committee here in novato pushing for this late start said it was obvious in class that something needed to change. Everybody was tired. Really one of the only issues we have had so far today is a rollover crash on southbound state route 17. This is the countercommute direction. We havent seen a major delay. It looks like things are improving just a bit. The crash happened about an hour ago. And were down to just the right lane blocked. Initially, we had all lanes blocked. Theyre getting the tow truck into position now. No word on injuries. We did have to have an ambulance called to the scene. And just an update on our couch saga this morning. Somebody lost a couch on westbound 80 on the carquinez bridge around the midspan. Thats cleared from the chp boards so it looks like thats been pushed out of the roadway, and drew, im sorry y have not found out if its leather or not. Probably off on the shoulder waiting for you. And matt, you just finished a briefing with police. Reporter yes, we talked to a lieutenant here on the scene. He gave us new information about what took place here overnight when this officerinvolved shooting took place. A man came out with a shotgun and pointed the shotgun at officers. And thats when officers opened fire and killed the man. Now, we did learn something new and interesting about what took place before that. Were told that a shelter in place was put in place here in this Mobile Home Park. Its the sun valley mobile estates. And they asked everybody to stay inside, and officers were actually evacuating some of the neighbors who were near where this home was. That was lit on fire by the man who came out with the gun who was shot by officers. Now, officers were trying to evacuate people at that time when they ended up shooting the suspect. Now, were told that this investigation is going to continue on for a couple more hours this morning. Theyre looking at all angles on this. They say its very early in this investigation. Theyre trying to figure out what exactly started the whole thing and why this man became agitated, started asking about trying to do fights against other people in the neighborhood. And also some of the issues that came up as they were negotiating with him for about two hours last night. And then the final moments when they opened fire again on this man who brought out his shotgun. Well have more coming up all morning long on abc7 mornings. Thank you. Its 5 14. Controversy at San Jose State University this morning over the return of a professor who was accused of sexual harassment. Professor lewis is returning to teach this fall. Last year, University Investigators found he sexually harassed a student. The University Sanctioned him and he stepped down as Department Chair in the college of education. Now, all of that is making students question the schools decision to allow him to come back. If it were me in that persons shoes and i saw a professor coming back and seeing the situation was dealt with, i would definitely feel kind of unsafe. The professors attorney released a statement claiming two thirdparty investigations cleared his client of wrongdoing. The Statement Reads in part, quote, it is unfortunate that the rush to judgment before the facts were fully gathered has had a clear and Lasting Impact on his reputation. This morning, investigators are searching for the owners of abused onmales found in monterey county. An anonymous tip led them to an illegal boarding facility in soledad. They found more than 1,000 animals neglected and emaciated. The organization provided these pictures yesterday. Two calves and a steer had to be put down. The facilitys owner has been ordered to shut it down. Drug overdoses are driving up the number of car crashes. The International Association for, emts and paramedics say the problem is getting worse. Theyre noticing a trend where heroin addicts will use in the car and pass out in the road. In todays gma first look, a woman who survived for 28 days lost in the woods of alabama is now telling her story. An incredible story. Just her will to survive. She had been missing for 25 days when a woman driving down a country road saw what she first thought was a dead animal and called police. Happening today, the state Lands Commission chaired by gavin newsom is expected to approve a settlement to shut down the last coastal sand Mining Operation in the u. S. The deal will stop the corporation from sucking up sand along monterey bay and selling it for profit. They have agreed to stop sand mining by december of 2020. It will sell the site at less than market value to a nonprofit. Neighbors in one north bay city can expect to see their gakage rates go up by more than half. Santa rosa customers will pay contract.
