A man was rescued in the ocean off San Francisco this morning thanks to some alert swirms. Swimmers off china beach spotted somebody kicking and sinking in the water. An offduty lifeguard helped the man to shore where the swimmers performed cpr until rescue crews got there. The man in his 50s was wearing clothes and a jacket. Theres no indication how he ended up in the ocean. The man was still unconscious when he was rushed to the hospital. A little light shower through mill valley down to san rafael. So limited in terms of coverage but we will be be dealing with a couple of drops of the next hour or soxt the reason why . Its more than 100 miles way from here, but the socalled sherpa fire in Southern California could impact your fathers day weekend travel plans. The fire is burning 20 miles north of santa barbara. It has periodically forced the closure of highway 101. Abc 7 News Reporter rob hayes joins us live from that area with the latest on the fire battle. Rob . Reporter well, weve been up on this hillside for the past five hours just watching a steady stream of air tankers and helicopters attack the sherpa fire from the sky. Just a few minutes ago, flames came close to cresting that ridge, but crews are working hard to keep the flames from spreading into this canyon and beyond. This was the scene last night and early this morning practically a carbon copy of what happened had when the sherpa fire started on wednesday. The sun went down, the sundowner winds picked up and the fire exploded. Those 50mileanhour winds kick up and all our firefighters and aircraft have to get grounded and we have to go into defensive mode and just because of the safety only. And we end up losing a lot more acrea acreage. Reporter more than 4,000 acres have already burned, more than 1200 personnel battling the flames. Thousand fire officials are bracing for a serious heat wave with triple digits by monday and possibly not easing up for a while. Were still looking at abovenormal temperatures potentially through the end of the month. So this could be a long fight to get over this current fire. A wildfire meantime burning dangerously close to homes and buildings in napa county has been contained. The fire started northeast of st. Helena around noon today, quickly spread to 12 acres fueled bury dry brush. Firefighters hit it from the ground and the air keeping it from reaching any buildings. No one was hurt. Firefighters will stay on the scene throughout the evening to put out any hot spots. A brush fire has forced people to evacuate homes northeast of stockton. This blaze here has scorched 60 acres along comanche parkway. Several structures have already burned. The fire is only 10 contained. Reporter well, its friday night and San Francisco police are concerned that what happened here a week ago could be repeated somewhere else by the same person, and thats why they want you to see this Surveillance Video. It happened a week ago around 1 00 in the morning in front of dirty nellies on the 2300 block of irving street. A customer stepped out to text someone when this man, a stranger, stabbed him in the back as he walked past him. There had been no altercation and the victim was not robbed. Police say they cant find a motive. It was completely unprovoked. This person didnt know who he was. The suspect wasnt a patron in the barment he was just walking randomly. He saw a victim and took advantage and stabbed him and continued to walk away. Reporter the Surveillance Video shows an asian man, 56, about 150 pounds weari 150 poun prescription glass and holding a sharp object in his left hand twirling it. The victim described as a white male didnt see him coming. The nie knife punctured his lung. s been released frlt hospital. Residents insist this is a safe neighborhood. Usually when theres Something Like this theres a motive or theyre robbing the person or whatnot. So yeah, im very shocked at what happened. Absolutely. Reporter police worry the man in the video may attack again. We want to make sure that this person doesnt do it again. In San Francisco, lianne m melend melendez, abc 7 news. A special Prayer Service was held today for a construction worker stabbed in San Francisco last week. Members of the archdiocese Restorative Justice ministry placed a candle and prayed where 58yearold Mitsy Campbell was kill. Police say she was stabbed by la zet couch after the 23yearold woman became enraged because she was not allowed to use a portable toilet near a construction site. A sign of peace on the streets where violence has occurred. Couch seen here following her arrest faces murder and mayhem charges. She and another man arrested have also been linked to another stabbing in San Francisco in may. A family narrowly avoided a tragedy when a traffic signal pole came crashing into their home. Police say a bmw suv went through a red light just after 10 30 last night, hit another car, sheared off a traffic signal pole, and crashed into this home. It was like a bomb went off right outside. All we knew is our window was flying at us. Patrick paul was in the living room with his wife, son and friend. When we went back in, we saw that the couch had moved away from the wall because where the pole came in was like exactly where i was sitting. So we came back in and like that was me where this light pole came into the building. Reporter matt and patrick both went to the hospital with minor injuries to get patched up after they were cut by blass. Matts wife and his son are okay. The man police say was behind the wheel of the bmw, 21yearold santa clara resident Francisco Cortez cruz was caught by officers walking away from the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of felony dui and felony hitandrun. A passenger in cortezcruzs car was also arrested on a drunk in public charge. Im upset about the fact that this could have ended in a fatality tonight. That would have been just horrif horrific.
