One bay area woman was especially upset when they are mother died suddenly and she had to reschedule her flight. Heres 7 on your sides Michael Finney with her story. Bernadette buchanan of san leandro was looking forward to seeing her 93yearold mom back in england. I was all set to have a wonderful visit. It was to be a Family Reunion of sorts. However, the happy event never happened. It came as a terrible shock when i got a phone call this said she very suddenly passed away. Her mom died weeks before their reunion. Bernadette had to get to england right away, so she called Virgin Atlantic airlines to reschedule her flight. They said there would be no problem changing the dates but there would be a fee, 275 fee. However, virgin said it would refund that fee after she filled out a bereavement form. Which i did upon my return and thats when my problems began. Problems that she said went on for months. First she mailed in the form with the death certificate. But virgin did not refund the money. When she asked why, the airline said it needed more documents. They required not just a death certificate, but a birth certificate and a marriage certificate to prove i was related to my mother. So she mailed in those, too. Still, no refund. Another month went by. I tried to get a hold of someone to speak to. And i was told i can no longer help you. So she copied all documents again and sent them all in again. Virgin said it didnt receive them. I must have sent that death certificate in five times. The marriage certificates and the other certificates. Next time she used certified mail. Still no luck. It was the same story over and over again. We need more documents. We havent received the original ones. Bernadette didnt give up. She said it wasnt about the money, it was because the airline had promised no penalty for a daughter saying goodbye to her mom. If it was Something Else i maybe wouldnt have felt it so deeply, but i just wanted to have it done right. She contacted 7 on your side. We contacted Virgin Atlantic. And it acted quickly. The airline found the documents, determined they were in order and refunded her money, telling us unfortunately there was a delay in the refund as the correct documentation was not received at first. Virgin atlantic worked closely with mrs. Buchanan to ensure the correct paperwork was filed and a refund was expedited. Im very grateful. Virgin airlines said they require more documents when the family members have different last name like bernadette and her mother. The airline needed the marriage and birth certificate to prove they are mother and daughter. It seems harsh, but it is meant to prevent abuse. Im Michael Finney, 7 on your side.
