An escaped inmate serving time for child molestation and who police label as a dangerous man continues to be the object of a manhunt and he may have changed his clothes. Theres evidence from the burglary at an Apartment Building that the inland east bay mate was there and switched clothing. Katie marzullo reports. [sirens] police cars by the dozens k9 units and helicopters overhead. Its the focus of an intense manhunt. Look at this man. Hes 40yearold johnell carter, africanamerican 511 220, and he has the name alice tattooed on his neck. He escaped the custody of a sheriffs deputy during a routine examine at valley medical center. He should be considered dangerous. Hes not armed to our knowledge. If the public sees him, call us immediately. People in the area are on alert. We have a dog and shes a pit bull, so nobody is coming near us. We are safe here. But as far as the rest of the neighborhood, im sure they will have one eye open. Its kind of interesting to see everything happen. Its right here in front of my house. The search that you see from sky 7hd was called off before 6 00. As part of the hunt the Sheriffs Department contacted the family and checking phone records. We record our phones in the jail and we will go back to do investigation work to see if it was a planned escape. Abc7 news. Alleges double shooting in san jose has one person dead this morning. It was just after 2 00 when officers responded to a shooting on oak street. When they arrived they found two victims in front of a home. Each had at least one gunshot wound. They were taken to the hospital where one victim died, but the other is expected to survive. Police are still searching for suspects and a motif. This morning Haywood Police are on the lookout for a man who tried to abduct a girl yesterday it happened near whitman and sycamore. A man in his 20s tried to pull the girl into his car. She fought him off and escaped. He was driving a newer model fourdoor honda civic. People at berkeley libraries may have been exposed to measles. You may have been exposed if you visited the West Branch Library on february 27 and 28th and the central Branch Library on the 27th. The risk for exposure is not strong. However, Health Officials say anyone who visited the libraries on those dates should monitor themselves for symptoms for the next two weeks. Symptoms include a fever and rash. There have been 132 measles cases statewide. Oakland police will know longer track dozens of gang members in some zones. Yesterday the City Attorney dismissed injunctions between two gangs being tracked. She said the police chief will focus on other gaining prevention programs given the limited resources of the City Attorneys office. It started in 2010 from starting to stop members of one gaining to interact with members of another gaining. As Lisa Harrington reports they want to remind people the beaches can be treacherous. It shows school Security Officers dragging a student at fremont high school. Thats disturbing enough, but its really what happened offcamera thats outraged the Oakland Unified Police chief. Abc7 News ReporterLaura Anthony has the story you will see only on 7. We shouldnt be putting our hands on the student. Theres no reason to put our hands on the student. It happened on january 22 2014. A 15yearold freshman was called to the office at fremont high for a meeting with an administrator. As shown on the Office Security video, the student stands there for a few moments before hes approached by two school Security Officers. They apparently want him to move. You will see a Security Officer right here in the jacket come up and talk to him. The reports states that hes asking him to leave the threshold of the door. The events are described by oakland schools new police chief, jeff goodell. He pushed him into the officer. The officer turned around and put his arm around his neck and put him in a hold. Hes quite troubled not only by the officers use of force, but also that the video sat in a file for 14 months. This one showed another School Security officer punching a student in a wheelchair at oakland high. Mitchell was fired and goes on trial next month. Being tried for felony assault and child abuse. In this case the attorney for the 15yearold is considering a civil lawsuit. Ronald cruz said there was no reason for the security guards to engage with the students at all, let alone manhandle and choke him. They have no business working around children and should be fired. They said they will call for more training and place them on leave pending the outcome of an intensive investigation and they will review prior cases. Every investigation conducted by the department the last five years we are reviewing every one. All of the officers, sworn and civilian, will wear body cameras. In oakland Laura Anthony, abc7 news. A plainclothed chp officers who pulled his gun on protesters last year has been cleared of any wrongdoing. This shows the officer pointing a gun near lake mary on december 10th. The chp said he acted within policy sag his partner was being attacked by protesters so he pulled his firearm. The chief engineer of the new eastern span of the bay bridge said the bridge is safe despite cracks in the anchor rods. He said the structure would barely move in a major earthquake even if all those were missing. Experts say the bridge would be vulnerable. This morning doctors are looking to get actor Harrison Ford back on his feet after a plane crash. They are trying to figure out what went wrong causing him to crash land his small plane. Abc News Reporter ted rawlins reports from ucla medical center. As investigators removed the wreckage of Harrison Fords plane there are new images and eyewitness accounts of the crash. The movie start was immediately treated a doctor who just happened to be golfing when ford crash landed on to the course. A plane down. Actually we all volunteered and got him out of the plane and put him a distance away from the airplane. As ford was talking to the control tower, andrew was recording video was the plane went down. The engine started to sputter and went completely out. It looked like it was short of the runway. Harrison ford is a terrific pilot. If your plane fails you, theres not much you can do but count on your good training and piloting skills. His piloting skills are welldocumented. And hes had some dramatic close calls, including two other accidents, one in a helicopter and the other in a small plane. But like his character, he survives. Crash landing. Investigators have taken the plane wreckage to a private hangar where it will be analyzed. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford continues to be treated here at ucla medical center. He is expected to make a full recovery. Abc news, los angeles. Six donors and six recipients all feeling great this morning after a rare 6way kidney swap wrapped up in San Francisco. The doctors at California Medical Center said there were no complications. This started with one donor who wanted to give but didnt have anything to give to. A Software Program created by a San Francisco man linked him with a recipient along with five other pairs. It was a big undertaking for one hospital, but it had to be done in just two days. When you split chains up and say, we did three yesterday and did three next month, there are things that can happen in the middle that might break the chain. It is the largest kidney chain on the west coast. Schools in california will begin administrator the common core exam next week. Last year they had a practice run, but now it counts. While the new curriculum is preparing students to be critical thinkers, some are having a tough time adjusting. Lyanne melendez explains. Reporter many of us learned that, for the most part, schoolwork must be memorized. Thats true to a certain extent but as part of the common core curriculum students are being asked to understand concepts thoroughly. And most importantly, be able to demonstrate that they know what they can do. The School Officials sat down to work on examples. In this question a student is asked if all the figures on the computer are in the past the answer would have been yes or no. Now the students must explain his or her answer. Getting here hasnt been easy. Teachers have been retrained in the common core curriculum. They might not know so the class is keeping ways to do it. But in some schools the use of Computers Limited and not every child has one at home. Writing on a computer is difficult because im new at typing and writing on paper is like like normal for me. But students in california next week the students will begin taking the common core exam. Unlike the old star program that took several days of testing the schools will have from march 10th to the end of may to conduct all the testing without disrupting learning. The window for the testing is pretty long, its like six weeks. Because its so spread out San Francisco unified will be able to assign one computer to ten students. Its a different way of teaching, its a different way of learning but it is, i think better preparation for our children for the 21st century . San francisco, lyanne melendez, abc7 news. Time is 6 16. The oakland as are rolling out their annual welcome matt for the citys little leaguer. They will march in parades around the coliseum fields, east lunch and play in the sponsored fun zone. These are scenes from a previous event. They have one of the largest little leagues in the area but only 3 play baseball. Something they are trying to change. And these kids will play games today because of the unlocking of the fields. And they were closed because Union Workers at the refinery are on strike. But they reached an agreement where the workers would not picket at the field. For of the last four years 600 players on 49 teams have been force today share just three fields because of the strike. Getting out on the baseball diamond is a great chance to get away from technology because this is the national day of unplugging. The San Francisco rec and Park Department is sponsoring a get out and play day so you can get away from the tyranny of social media. This is the sixth year of unplugging. Its a growing movement designed to log off and power down for 24 hours. All that you have to do is simply put down your device, cell phone, ipad or whatever and walk away, slowly. Its already been spring like and with less than two weeks away from the official springtime equinox we will look for the numbers to reflect really well above average temperatures once again. Through the next couple of days, at least. So a chilly start and a mild to warm afternoon. A full cool down through the middle of next week. There is a storm system that wants to bust through the ridge. And the forecast models are not agreeing as to whether or not this is going to happen. But we know we have to spring forward overnight tonight, lose that hour of sleep. And we will enjoy more day light, though. Plenty of sunshine to go around for the entire weekend with unseasonably mild conditions into at least monday. Then tuesday we will begin to see the ridge shift off to the east. And when will the storm system bust through the ridge . One model shows we could get some precip on here. Here it is wednesday march 11th and looks like we looking at rain from this model but if we see any it will be light and most are forecastth rain into the north bay. Just a chance at that. Here comes the front. It will drop the temperatures increase the cloud cover. Will it bring us rain . Not likely downtown. And look what happens thursday and friday. We are back up to aboveaverage readings. In san jose mid70s have been the norm. No changes, and really out ahead of that system the ridge strengthens. Thats why we are even warmer. Then we cool off. No rain in san jose. We are looking at a return to above average highs next thursday and friday. As for today, look for 73 in oakland and san mateo. In fact the 60s will just be confined bodega bay, point reyes, half moon bay, ocean beach and maybe a little bit of fog tonight. 73 in santa cruz. 72 richmond.
