A suspect has been identified in a shooting spree in kalamazoo that left at least six people dead and two others injured. Police arrested the suspect jason brian dolphin, a 45yearold white man from kalamazoo. The shooting started at 6 00 last night and there were multiple crime scenes, including a townhome, a Cracker Barrel restaurant parking lot, and a ford dealership. Among the injured is a 14yearold girl who remains in serious condition. The three shootings were all connected. Better were not connected. He chose them at random. They expected him to face murder charges, and an arraignment could come tomorrow. Back at home, more developing news out of san jose. Police are investigating a crash that killed two people last night around 9 30 at hicks road and camden avenue. Two cars involved in the accident, police say, had major damage when officers arrived. A woman died at the scene and a man was taken to the hospital where he later died. One witness who lives in the area tells us what he thinks may have happened. The one coming southbound was coming up a hill and that hill has a blind spot for some cars, especially at this time of the night when not many people are on the road. Once you get over that spot, that car probably didnt have enough time to react and since that car was coming so fast, they just hit each other. This is san joses eighth traffic fatality of the year and the eighth and ninth victims of 2016. An emergency meeting will be held tomorrow for displaced residents whose apartment burned in the Mission District last year. City officials have ordered the apartment to be depolished as soon as this week after intense flames ripped through the building, and they say its unstable and an earthquake could collapse the building on to the street. Even if they did stay, rent controls would no longer apply. Many thousand dollars, thats crazy, even in the mission. I think its unconscionable that the landlord has allowed things to get to the point where they are. Supervisor david compose said he calls it unjust and hes searching for a lastminute solution. The owner could not be reached for comment. [explosion sounds] that was the sound of an explosion in vallejo as the bomb squad safely detonated a pipe bomb. Someone left it near the Solano County courthouse yesterday afternoon and near a law office. The device was safely disposed of and nobody was hurt. A fire destroyed this building in napa yesterday. Yesterday flames didnt reach a trailer and the animals made it out safely. Driver was not hurt. Fresh off her win in the nevada caucuses, Hillary Clinton will be back in the bay area today for three events. A conversation with Hillary Clinton starts at 1 00 this afternoon in piedmont. Then in atherton she will speak with Young Leaders and she will speak in menlo park at another fundraiser. If you would like attend, tickets will cost you 500. Also happening today the progressive democrats of San Francisco will host a fundraiser for the Bernie Sander campaign. Its designed to show a contrast in campaigning while Hillary Clinton is also in the bay area. The sanders event starts at 3 30 this afternoon at Market Street in San Francisco. A major change in plans to build californias highspeed rail line. As we first reported, the first leg will go from bakersfield north to gilroy and san jose. Original plan was to build it from bakersfield south to burbank. The few plan also back the start of service from 2022 to 2025. A rail spokesperson said these changes brought the cost of building the line from 68 billion to 62 billion. Much of that cost is expected to come from private investments. But some lawmakers are concerned costs havent been lowered enough. This is really a map issue. We know we have in round numbers 20 billion. We can build the north with that. Went from roughly 40 billion to 98 billion, then they detuned it and brought it down to basically a 70 billion project. Still a lot of money but we are already getting cost overruns. Once finished, it will stretch from San Francisco to los angeles. Erosion is taking its toll in San Francisco. Abc news was at the south end of ocean beach yesterday. You can see whats happening to one of the parking lots. Crews had to pile sandbags to slow down the erosion. Six agencies have agreed on a 340 million project to close the great highway south of the boulevard. The goal is to create a coastal trail in its place in 2021. Heres something we havent seen in months. Recreational fishermen catching dungeness crab in the bay area. We saw lots of big catches. Catching shows its now safe to fish for sport south of there after crabs tested positive for toxins earlier in the season. I think the meet is fine. As long as you just get the knife cleaned before you cut. Its been a while before weve been able to fish for anything so Everyone Wants to go fishing. The commercial season is still closed. It will be at least until the end of next week before is state tests comes back to determine if fishing is safe.
