[rain falling] the Stormy Weather caused problems for drivers and had crews scrambling to keep up with downed trees and power lines. Some pg e customers are in the dark because of the rain and wind. Abc7 News ReporterLisa Amin Gulezian has more. [beeping truck] pg e crews are hard at work in daly city on beliveau avenue. This is just one of many spots throughout the bay area where the storm brought down power lines. I saw wires swinging back and forth. When they hit the electric cables, thats when the sparks came out and thats when i called 911. Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses lost power. Not far away on southbound 280 at an onramp a flooded roadway caused this car to stall. Others slowly inched by in a foot of standing water. Heavy rain and clogged drains are to blame for many flooded streets. The storm also made for dangerous driving conditions. But before the rain, came the wind, and the damage it brought. In san mateo, this large tree fell on some cable lines at el camino and beliveau. And on treasure island, the annual music festival, which goes on rain or shine, lost a lot of concertgoers once the storm came. This is it ridiculous. Its not fun. Look at this, we are drenched. Time to go. Festival organizers were forced to shut down access to the pier because of high wind. In fact, medics rushed a woman to the hospital after an atm machine blew over and cut her leg. Lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. Abc7 news was in San Franciscos Castro District last night where you can see a large branch from a tree fell on a car. It happened across the street from sutter health. No one was hurt. Also in San Francisco strong winds brought down muni lines in pacific heights. Traffic gas blocked during the repair work. No one was hurt by the fallen lines. Downed lines were also a problem all over the bay area since the storm first hit thursday. Pg e has reported more than 173,000 outages since then. Many have been restored. Right now at least 1900 people in the south bay, 200 in the north bay, and 250 in San Francisco are without power. A mudslide caused a crash on highway 101 in marin county yesterday. Four vehicles were caught in muck that spilled on to 101 in corda madera. No one was seriously hurt. Matt shared this beautiful photo from what passed through last night. You can use our to share your pictures and videos with us. In oregon hurricaneforce winds knocked over dozens of trees yesterday, crushing cars and homes and snapping power poles. Tens of thousands of people lost power. These are pictures tweeted by police and Fire Departments near the portland area. You can see and hear that wind blowing in the west wills of portland. This is a poplar park and place for hiking outside a historic mansion. Look how hard those trees are swaying in those strong winds. The gusts were between 50 and 6. They were Even Stronger along the coast works on friday a rare tornado caused a hot of damage. Here you can see a metal roof damaged by the twister, and that piece just flapping like a piece of paper from yesterdays new storm. In sonoma county, authorities are searching for a gunman who shot three people, killing one. It happened just after 8 00 last night on highway 116 south in rural sebastopol. Two of the victims were taken to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. Investigators have not released any details on the suspect we we are learning more about the tense moments that led up to the shooting of a San Francisco police officer. Officer kevin downs was shot in the head friday night and survived. He remains in critical, but stable condition this morning. Police say if the bullet had struck a centimeter in the wrong direction, officer downs could have died. Abc7 News ReporterSergio Quintana has the story. Officer kevin downs and his partner responded to the Lakeshore Shopping Center after security guards reported a man who was threatening customers. Witnesses say there was a foot chase, then gunfire. Two people, a cop and the other guy was running this direction, that way, and then all we heard was shots, four or five shots. Then we heard a scream like an officer down like really loudly. Officer downs was shot. According to the interim police chief, the bullet entered and exited his head. He underwent surgery to remove fragments from his brain and he still has partial paralysis on the side of his body from the shot to the head. Hes a twoyear veteran from the police short. Police said he comes from a family dedicated to public service. Kevins father is a retired San Francisco policeman. His family over the years has given so much to this city, to this country. Officer downs even helped launch a group called ranchin vets, which is helping Service Members reintegrate into civilian life. Police chased him down and cornered him near edgewood. There was a a various number of pops and then we saw somebody running through the campus so we went into our lockdown protocol and got the kids in the stairways . Stairways. The end the man tried to hold off police next to playground, but after an exchange of gunfire he was injured and eventually taken into custody. Police have not released his name. Hes recovering at San FranciscoGeneral Hospital along with the officer hes accused of shooting. Sergio quintana, abc7 news. Jury selection is expected to start tomorrow for the man who killed the teenager sierra lamar. Gore sea torres has pleaded not guilty. Sierra vanished on her way to school in 2012. Her body was never been found, despite hours and hours of searching by police and volunteers. Prosecutors are seeking the Death Penalty against garcia torres. His trial could last six months. In Southern CaliforniaPolice Arrested a man who drove a pickup truck off a bridge in san diego, killing four people in the park below. It happened during a motorcycle festival yesterday afternoon. Police say the driver was speeding on the san Diego Coronado bridge when he lost control, striking a guardrail. His truck fell 60 feet into that park, landing on a venders booth near a stage where a band was performing. Four people inside were crushed. Nine others, including the driver, were injured. Police believe the driver had been drinking and authorities have identified him as 25yearold Richard Anthony sepoleo, a u. S. Navy member stationed at the naval base on coronado island. They say it started as a chase yesterday afternoon. The driver lost control of the car. No one was hurt. Crews were able to shore up the building so it should remain standing until its repaired. Yesterday some bay area history disappeared. Video from caltrans shows crews imploding another pier from the old eastern span of the bay bridge yesterday. They used 8,000 pounds of explosives. A special bubble curtain in the water is supposed to minimize the impact on the environment. Last fall a larger pier was blown up the same way. Senator Bernie Sanders made a Campaign Stop in San Francisco yesterday. Abc7 news was there as the former president ial candidate spoke to supporters of proposition 61. The ballot measure would require all prescription drugs bought by the state to be priced at or below the price paid by the department of veterans affairs. Sanders said the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs is hitting older people especially hard. Elderly people are cutting their pills in half because they cannot afford the medicine that they need. Opponents of prop 61 include the California Medical Association and the veterans of foreign wars. They say it would increase prescription prices. Firefighters in nevada have made some progress in battling the Little Valley fire. Its burned more than 3400 acres since it started friday morning. Its now 20 contained. Fire crews worked through strong winds in a valley in reno. The fire destroyed 22 homes. Some other firefighters have been sent to help. No injuries have been reported. Its concentrated in the Santa Cruz Mountains as the front is stalled out there. An additional several inches of rain. And downstream from where the loma fire has burned. We are looking at rain locally around 680 in deanville, up here and toward fairmont drive, 580. But in palo alto, also sunnyvale and santa clara, a few light returns. San jose picking up a little bit of rain. As we get further south, the heavier rain is . Monterey. We also have rain from watsonville, salinas. And even raining as far south as san luis owe obisto. You see it continues to move over the same area. It will take another impulse for the rain to get more on concentrated and move a little further to the north. Then it will sweep on south from another impulse from the north later on tonight. So a Flash Flood Watch for this area right here, highlighted in green. Then a coastal flood watch all along the coast here throughout the day today with high tide at about 1 00. Looking at the additional rainfall around Boulder Creek, the summit, highway 17. So certainly some dangerous conditions there. But up in the mountains its been rain looking at temperatures in the 40s. Heavy rain around blue canyon. But we are looking at a Winter Weather advisory until 11 00 tomorrow above 7,000 feet, around the passes. 3 to 6 inches pass i believe in the pass was wind gusts you have to 50 miles an hour. Its mild, in the low 60s everywhere. Fog at the coast and fog on some of the bridges. You see from this Vantage Point we have dry conditions in San Francisco. Foggy, the golden gate bridge. Rain showers south of the city for the day. Then we are looking at more showers this evening for everyone. Sunny and warmer next week.
