A cybersecurity expert said the internet of things is likely to be played again. We are seeing more and more texts exploiting these type of devices against targets. Starting friday morning hackers transformed everything from Baby Monitors to vacuum cleaners into an army overwhelming servers with phony requests. Its called a distributed denial of Service Attack and meant people couldnt watch netflix or use twitter. The group new world hackers claimed responsibility. I would say its too early to see who is behind it. The affected companies lost money in customers. He said we should really be concerned about the risk to us individually. For example, he worries a hacker could blackmail you by threatening to turn the brakes off in your car or peering into your babys monitor. Every single one of those devices can become a little canon. He estimates he has ten of those little canons in his own home. Thats pretty scary, for sure. I mean, i have cameras all around my house. Theres no easy way to know if your devices were used in the web attack, but he said there is a simple solution to make your devices safer. Every new Device Installed in the home, make sure the default password it came with in the box gets changed so no one can hack into the device. A bit of homework to protect your home. The family of a young navy see man is demanding answers after she suddenly died while at sea near japan. 23yearold Danyelle Luckey recently enlisted as a way to travel the world, get an education and serve her country. Abc7 News ReporterLisa Amin Gulezian has the story. We were just inseparable. She was my baby. I dont understand. It hurts. It hurts so bad. I just dont know what i am going to do without her. Annette and Darryl Luckey are heartbroken. Their daughter danyelle enlisted this the navy just five months ago. She passed boot camp with no problems and was on her first deployment aboard the uss Ronald Reagan when she suddenly died. The family was told shed been sick for a few days and may have died of cardiac arrest. When my baby left here, she was standing tall and she was healthy. She comes back in a casket. The 23yearold bay area womans body was returned to the bay area thursday. One officer saluted luckey, who is considered a veteran. Her family stood in silence, devastated. This really hurts and its really sad to know we will never see her again. It really hurts a lot. Autopsy results wont be in for another two months. The pittsburgh native planned to one day return home and become a social worker to help troubled teenage girls. Danyelle luckeys funeral will take place here wednesday morning. Berkeley Greek Community met to discuss what changes needed to be made after recent allegations of sexual assault. Two women were reportedly assaulted at fraternity parties offcampus last weekend. In response, the greek system has chosen to suspend parties at both fraternities and sororities. The group met yesterday to discuss their plans and to self secure their events going forward. On october 4th a person slammed into the back of a horse trailer and left the scene. The horse, named chance, was initially not expected to survive. Chance has recovered, but can never be ridden again. An enormous tree crushed a man in his own backyard in san rafael. He was gardening when it happened. Abc7 News ReporterLeslie Brinkley has more. Reporter this 75foot tall eucalyptus tree cracked at the base of its trunk and toppled not onto the house, but onto a man out in his backyard watering and digging. The 911 call came in 3 30 in the afternoon. The owner of the property was found underneath the tree. Pinned under the tree. Pinned under the tree, unconscious. We were able to remove him from under the tree. We attempted some rescusitative efforts on scene but were not successful. Shocked neighbors and friends came through the gated driveway in this steep neighborhood. Groves of eucalyptus trees are everywhere and in every yard. The eucalyptuses are among the biggest and we always look up at them and wonder but its kind of terrifying that one could fall over and kill someone like that. Tom bair pointed out the leaning trees in his yard and one that came crashing down on his driveway during a winter rainstorm, narrowly missing the cars. Coroners said the fallen tree had started leaning toward their house the last few months. In san rafael, im Leslie Brinkley, abc7 news. A High School Football flavorer went to the hospital after getting a concussion during the game. It happened in San Francisco at Lincoln High School where the game was played yesterday. The injured player was from the opposing team, galileo high school. Trainers escorted him off the field and ambulance took him to the hospital as a precaution. Student said seeing the injury shook them up. Its just a scary thing. Even though it wasnt one of my players, its sad to see another player down because they dont come out here wanting to get injured. Witnesses say the teenager was walking, talking and moving after the injury. The players finished out the game. Lincoln went on to win 2118. The trip from the east bay to Treasure Island is a little safer and easier. The new on and off ramps opened up to drivers on the bay bridge yesterday. The biggest difference is that the exit is now on the right side of the bridge instead of the far left. The tight turns and quick merges are gone, as well. The project cost 98 million to complete. Caltrans is scheduled to open the last part of the bay bridge to bike traffic today. The bike path will open at noon. The four and a half mile path on the eastern span will finally go all the way to Yerba Buena Island. Drivers will need to take a shuttle because the roads on the Yerba Buena Island are not considered safe for cyclists and pedestrian. And how will the weather be . An east bay teenager with a passion for helping others has scared up a Haunted House for a good cause. We were in albany last night for the behindthescenes tour of the broken spine mine. The 16yearold created an elaborate Haunted House with electronics and moving floors. Its the fourth year he and his friends have built a Haunted House in his backyard. This years theme, an abandoned mine in the middle of the bay area that no one knows about. To be scared and startled and amazed by special effects and all sorts of actors. The Haunted House is at 1048 peralta avenue. Open to the public for two nights only, next saturday and on halloween. You can get in for a donation of five dollars. Hlf the money raised goes to the almeda county Community Food bank. In the south bay more than 5,000 people came out to help find a cure for cancer. The light the night walk was held at a stadium in san jose last night. These walkers raised 1. 5 million for the leukemia and lymphoma society. Each one carrying different colored lanterns. Gold is for all the people who have passed away and its in memory of them. The red is for all the participants. And then the white is for the survivors. Heres the next storm system starting well north of ukiah early monday morning, slowly going to try to make its way south. By 4 00 in the afternoon on monday you can see barely making its way into santa rosa at this hour. The heaviest of the rain the pops of yellow on the screen, still north of santa rosa. As we head into monday, 11 00 in the evening, the system tries to sag south. As it does, it is just kind of falling apart. We lose the yellows and the intense rainfall. So i think the system once again will have a really hard time making its presence no one outside of the north bay. You can see as we head into tuesday, it continues to fall apart and evaporate.
