Death of a man hit by a car at market and delores streets. It happened last night just before 11 00. Witnesses say the victim was on an island, not in the crosswalk, when he was hit. He had a cane and roller bag with him. He died at the scene, despite efforts by bystanders to survive him. The driver is cooperating with police. And developing news out of walnut creek. Police have arrested a man believed to be involved in a possible shooting on 680. Our media partner at the east bay times reports the man was surrounded in walnut creek bart station after leading police on a chase through pleasanton, san ramon and danville. Traffic was at a standstill in the area for hours. Officers were investigating a report of a freeway shooting when they spotted the alleged gunman. On the campaign trail, donald trump was rushed offstage in reno last night. The secret Service Claims someone shouted gun at the rally. They arrested a man, found no weapon. The man was released and not charged. The man later told an abc affiliate in las vegas that he had a republican against trump sign and people started attacking him before trump was led off. Abc7 news was at the registrar of Voters Office in san jose where people waited up to 30 minutes just to get a ballot. Its one of six Early Voting Centers in Santa Clara County. Bay area Election Officials are telling he voters not to worry when they cast their ballots. California is one of the few states immuned to cyber attempts to create confusion on election day. Abc7 News ReporterLisa Amin Gulezian explains. In San Franciscos department of elections, ballots are being sorted and the timeconsuming process of manually organizing ballots is underway. The paper trail is long and purposeful in this elections office. We take any questions or concerns about voting integrity very seriously. A gallop survey in august showed 36 of americans felt voter fraud would most likely be a major problem this election and just 43 had a, quote, great deal of confidence that their vote would be counted correctly. The reality is just two states recently had their voting systems hacked. Not in california where paper ballots are used. Theres no possible way for our results to be hacked. Nothing in the voting booth is attached to the internet. But some fear state websites or even unofficial electionnight numbers could be compromised, thus leading voters to distrust the system. Im not worried about it in San Francisco. But maybe in other parts of the country there may be possibilities, yes. The Sheriffs Office said 18yearold Kirk Kimberly had been stabbed multiple times. A landscaper found his body wednesday buried next to a parking lot. Detectives dont believe this was a random act of violence. They also say it had nothing to do with the university or its students. Almeda county officers remembered one of their own last night. Sheriffs officer explorer carle rack session was found dead thursday at a park in oakland. It is the first time the Explorers Program has lost someone. We appreciate the outpouring and we thank you for being here for us. Thank you very much. The 21yearold went missing wednesday night. Her body was found at a park in oakland thursday. On friday investigators Oakland Police investigators said they detained two people in connection with her brutal murder. She had been beaten, stabbed and burned. Investigators wouldnt give details about a motive behind the crime. This is a personal matter. The almeda county Sheriffs Department has not released the names of the suspects in the case. But we talk with a guy who used to work with karla the at an oakland fastfood restaurant. She said she also knows one of the accused. I know the girl, she used to work at kfc. It kind of shocks us because how could a coworker do that to another coworker . He tells us the suspect is another coworker laura rodgers. Shes been booked into the jail. Shes charged with murder. Sergio quintana, abc7 news. Happening today, lots of runners are premium for the golden gate halfmarathon. The 13. 3 halfmarathon begins today at the muni pier near aquatic park. The runners will go over the bridge to the marin head lands and then come back over the bridge to return to the aquatic park. Heres a live be picture from our golden gate camera. Last year over 3700 runners took part in the race. It starts at 7 00 and the course is open for three hours. It might be a little bit muggy for the runners. Absolutely right. A woman who drown friday in the Russian River is a longtime former berkeley teacher. 69yearold heidi boley was canoeing with two friends when her boat overturned. She disappeared. Her friends swam to shore. Rescuers found her a short time later but they could not revive her. She taught math and science for more than two decades and recently worked parttime for the district. A shocking find just outside fresno. The couple found multiple burned animal remains dumped on the side of the road. Reporter corey james from our sister station found out this is not the first time they have made this type of disturbing discovery. Its heartbreaking to see in person. Reporter the photo is too graphic to show you without blurring out part of the picture. She shows you the picture of a dog she found friday on the side of the road. You could still see the face, the broken structures. It was obviously a small dog, but it had been badly burned. [train whistle] it was found feet away from the train tracks at avenue 15 and be santa fe drive saturday. And evidence of what was likely used to scorch it was left behind. There were several, maybe about five or six butane cans just spread out over the entire scene. You know right away that, okay, this wasnt an accident. You dont do that. Its not an accident. Butane cans just dont show up in the area. Yvonne and her husband, casey, said it was not just one dog they found. There were multiple burnt animal skeleton remains all stretched out over the halfmile stretch of dogs. The other ones were unrecognizable flied. You could see some bones, heads, paws, sculls. Last year they took photos of a similar scene. For them seeing it again raises questions and concerns. Literally they are being tortured and harmed in such a way thats brutal and that it needs justice. Yeah, its very disheartening to see the same thing a year later, identical. Corey james, abc7 news. Dramatic video from the chp shows firefighters rescuing two people and a dog dropped 80 feet down the side of a cliff. It happened at rodeo beach yesterday afternoon. It was in the marin he head lands. The dog fell off the cliff first. The owner and a Good Samaritan then went after him, but got stuck. Firefighters hoisted them up one by one into a chp helicopter. The dogs owner is thankful everything turned out okay. I am just incredibly grateful and so glad that i got out of it and that everybody got out of it. The dog, named pancake, went to the vet with some minor scrapes and bruises. Happening today some raider fans plan to send a message to Team Owner Mark Davis during todays game. That message, stay in oakland, dont go to vegas. Davis has made it clear that he is moving to nevada unless he finds a better deal. Fans will be handing out 10,000 signs that say stay in oakland. Many people have noticed it in the downtown area. Its come from mexican freetail bats. They like to live in small crevasses about an inch wide in between between the older buildings. The bat expert said the smell comes from their waste, but its also the males trying to attract female bats. In the fall when feels are starting to think about the females for the winter, it gets a little stronger. Right now we might be noticing some of that, in addition to their normal odors. Sacramento has a large number of bats living under bridges, as well. Experts say they are good to have around because they come out at night, they eat up all the mosquitoes in the area.
