Reporter one resident is estimating repairs will probably cost him about 12,000. All together, 59 residents had to evacuate overnight, but 49 others had to evacuate by boat or truck. The big concern tonight is this could all happen again depending whether this area gets pounded by more big storms. You can see the extent of flooding as sky 7 flew over lovers lane. Residents were scrambling to grab what they could as rising waters began to take over the homes. It was the dark of night as bionca escaped in an unusual way. Piggy back ride. I had boots on so i could walk through but it was pretty bad. Reporter the culprit it was creek that smilpilled over the banks. The creek was filled with logs and other debris. It forms the boundary between santa clara and san banito counties. It was about 2. 5 to 3 feet up in the garage and you can see the elevation difference in the house. Once it got in the vents in the crawl space, it was, you know, i sandbagged the doors but it was a waste of time. Reporter the search and rest key team surveyed the damage with a drone. It has started raining here and Business Owners and residents are ready for anything. They have sandbags out and are prepared for another night of rain. This is what the storm left behind in marin county. Flooding, swollen creeks, mud and debris. A landslide in fairfax trapped people inside the home. Kris allen and his wife live down the street and moved valuables up high in case there is flooding. Where we live right on the river, everyone has sandbags, i think everyone is vigilant but i certainly think that another rain like we had for 24 hours yesterday could be catastrophic for us. Reporter julian with the department of public works says crews worked throughout the night responding to downed trees and clogged storm drains. So lots of rain from those storms like on sunday for instance, coupled with the high tides that we were experiencing yesterday had this really high saturation in the soil. So what we were really concerned about is trees coming down. Reporter thats just what happened. An enormous redwood tree toppled over on sir Francis Drake boulevard blocking traffic and flooding blocked roads in navado. Water rose three feet. Alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. The California Department of Water Resources says reservoir levs are 97 of normal. Very encouraginencouraging. Last year reservoir levels were 50 of normal. Californias largest Reservoir Lake shasta is at 81 and folsom lake 69 . The wet weather opened a sing hole thats blocking a busy residential road and dumped sewage into a near by creek and thats not the only place dealing with a water related sewage spill. We are live, eric . Reporter pg and e is working on a gas line so folks can keep service. Its across the street from the sink hole. Regarding the sink hole. The good news is they bypassed it so folks can continue to use toilets among minor road here. The bad news is asphalt is still giving way. Neighbors say this sink hole almost meant a disastrous start to the day for a First Responder and fire truck. They were about to drive over the bridge and saw the sink hole and stopped because their fire truck would have ended up somewhere down in the creek. Just glad they caught it before something major happened. Reporter the sanitary district says the weather caused a leak in one and possibly two under ground sure pipes thewer some sewage did get into the creek. We did Water Quality tests and a mandatory reporting. We do have the road blocked off and detours in place. Weve been putting out information through next door and our emergency alerts so that the residents are aware that they will have to detour to get home tonight. Reporter Drinking Water is not affected and crews are installing a sewage by pass so customers can use toilets. Orinda is not the only place with sewage leaks. It triggered an overflow. We had storm water and the storm water missioned with waste water overflowed at three sites. Reporter those three sites are alice street at the oakland and Barnhill Marina and temescal. Its because of this, the storm damage infrastructure that supplies the city with water. They are urged to cut water use by 30 . Water quality is not affected, it is safe to drink. Rain is beginning to fall. You see areas of light rain, light to moderate and showers moving onto the coastline of north bay. Speaking of flooding, flooding is occurring as you know in the Russian River in guerneville. Significant flooding is likely to occur before the river drops back below flood stage tomorrow afternoon. By 5 00 tomorrow morning as the rush gets underway, rain will have pushed to the south and east and pockets of downpours during that time.
