Now to breaking news in concord where a Small Plane Crash landed just short of the buchanan airport. Leslie brinkley joins us live on the scene. Any word on the pilot . Reporter this plane went down at 2 45 today. What a close call. It just missed highway 4. It just missed the runway at buchanan field. Here behind me you see the wreckage. Crews are on the ground right now draining fuel from the plane. The pilot of this single engine glass star plane thats an experimental plane built from a kit had just taken off from the field when it developed mechanical problems. The pilot turned around to return to the airport but lost altitude, just missed highway 4. The plane clipped a fence, skidded across four lanes of marsh drive before crashing into a stoplight pole just a few feet away from a car dealership. A couple that was in the middle of buying a car here was stunneded to hear of the accide accident. We were in the Office Getting ready to purchase a vehicle and our sales agent came in and said, plane just crashed, come out. We came out, and the plane was still running actually. A lot of fuel on the ground with the plane still running like that. I told her, we should back up and not be there too close. Then we saw an officer come in and shut the plane down. Reporter an officer shut off the plane. There was no fire. A bystander, were told, pulled the pilot from the plane. This is a view of sky 7 right after the crash. No one else was on board. The pilot is in moderate condition at the airport. We understand he was conscious and talking. A witness said there was no smoke coming from the plane as it came down. Its amazing that this plan managed to land here. The pilot survived this crash. Its a busy corridor here on the northeast side of buchanan field. And this plane managed to not strike any buildings, car ks s people. The faa is in charge of the investigation and theyre on their way to the scene. Leslie, thank you so much. An Evacuation Order is now lifted at the new apple campus thats nearing completion. Firefighters ordered everyone out because of a gas leak around 2 00 this afternoon. Sky 7 captured this video of crews working to cap the leak. Theres no word on any injuries. A few apple employees have started working there, but the movein process will take months along with final construction. A dozen construction workers went to the hospital today after a structure at their work site collapsed. Sky 7 flew overhead. You can see twisted metal and planks of wood left behind in wet concrete. This happened at what used to be a chevrolet its in the pill hill area. Melanie . Reporter as many as 15 to 20 construction workers were initially trapped. Cal osha is now investigating what happened here. A spokesperson says inspectors were on site just two months ago based on a confidential complaint they received. No citation were issued. As for what happened here today, that remains a mystery for now. Construction workers dangling from the rebar, others knee deep in cement after the second floor of this construction project collapsed during a cement pour. Construction worker Carlos Beltran took this cell phone video. I was on the third floor, walking that way and it just sunk in. Reporter a witness driving by said he thought the sound of the collapse was the sound of his car being hit. The people just screaming. Everybody was worried about their coworkers. Reporter coworkers assisting first responders, putting up a ladder and covering the spilled cement with plywood as it was nearly impossible to move through. Kind of like quicksand. Reporter oakland fire says 15 to 20 construction workers were trapped. Everyone got out. 12 with minor injured were transported to nearby hospital. It was a very great rescue between us and them. Reporter cal osha is now investigating. It inspected general contractor Johnstone Moyer and subcontractor largo concrete, 11 times over the last five years. It issued Johnstone Moyer six general citations with low penalties over four of those inspections whereas four of largos 11 inspections were accident related. Three resulted in violations for Workplace Safety hazards including one serious violation for failing to guard reinforced steel which could have resulted in a worker being impaled. We sent word about the exclusive video of construction workers dangling from the building. You can see a worker on the righthand side of your screen lying down on the cement. One of the mans coworkers, Carlos Beltran, took this video right after the accident. You can see workers hanging from the scaffolding and the rebar. Weve frozen the video here so you can get a better look, because it is a bit shaky. You can see a worker covered in cement being led away. The sight of the collapse may be familiar to bay area car buyers. The developer has ties to former president bill clinton. Kristin zee has more. Reporter lets start with the site. A herd of goats miraculously escaped a wildfire in milpitas. They were trapped between a fence and the flames. All but five suffered is burns to their heads and hoovs. We checked up on them in san jose and found out theres a way the public can help. Reporter this is the temporary home for the 15 goats rescued from the hillside. Theyre babies suffered first, second and third degree burns. The pen allows veterinarian sharon osterman to keep a close watch on them as she attends to their injuries. They have bleeding hooves, burn injuries to their hooves. Theyre sensitive. Burn injuries are all over their bodies but heads and feet are most affected. Reporter one is being confined in a separate room hooked up to intravenous fluids in critical condition. When they are walking some are hobbling indicating they do have injuries to their hoovs. Their burns are being treated with ointment. The shelter staff can tell the goats are traumatized. The goats seem to be somewhat shellshocked right now. Theyre just are is, very quiet. They are eating, most of them are eating and, you know, some are still, you know, not well enough to eat their food. Reporter the goats require aroundtheclock care but they dont have vets on duty over the weekends so the goats be transferred to an emergency facility for the holiday weekend. Theyre seeking donations for the unexpected expense. Some will make a decently good recovery. Some of them, im more on the fence of right now, im not sure how good theyre going to do. Right now one lane is still closed but traffic is not impacted. With the memorial day weekend upon us, many here in the bay area are likely to head up to lake tahoe. The wet winter has filled up the lake past its natural rim providing both benefits and some challenges. Laura anthony is live at fanny bridge in tahoe city. Laura . Reporter well, hi. Were here at the dam at tahoe city. This is the only outflow from lake tahoe. And thanks to record inflows this year, the lake has gone up nearly six feet since last october. Thats the highest singleyear increase ever. Its everywhere you look at lake tahoe. Water, that is. The lake is now well above its natural rim for the first time in years and still going up. The comparison to last year is stunning. This is what it looked like on the south shore at regan beach last year. Here is the exact same scene this year. Its phenomenal the difference. It is remarkable. We have such a long winter and so much precipitation. As it was coming down, we knew it was going to be a great summer. Reporter and now with all the water flowing through the dam at tahoe city and heading down the Truckee River towards squaw valley and beyond, theres a bit of a tradeoff. Its running, higher, faster and colder. So right now theres a little bit of danger. Its really impossible to get underneath some of the bridges. So all the rafting companies are not open right now. Reporter but the benefits clearly outweigh the risks when it comes to tahoes bounty. This is what the pier at tahoe citys commons beach looked and this, the same pier today, completely surrounded by blue, pristine water. This is incredible. Last year there was the size of a football field of sand out here. And now weve got water. Reporter Greg Carlisle manages kayak rentals on the beach. Last year the water here was 500 feet farther out. Last year you could walk all the way out past the pier that you could see behind you and it was all the way on dry land. Reporter now the lake is so high, the beach so small, carlisle doesnt have much space to store his kayaks. But its a problem he and many here are glad to have. In tahoe city, laura anthony, abc 7 news. Were expecting Great Holiday weekend weather. As we look at santa cruz and over the San Francisco bay and lake tahoe, what do you see there . Blue skies. Spencer christian is here with the forecast. As you no doubt know, its a bit cooler than average going into memorial day weekend right now. So as an indicator, were using the High Temperature trend for the week ahead in concord. The average High Temperature in late may is 78 degrees. Tomorrow will only be 73, but it will go up to 80 on sunday. Thats encouraging. But memorial day the temperature will drop and temperatures will rebound midweek to late week next week. Thats the pattern well all see around the bay area. So heres a look at whats happening right now on live doppler 7. Live clouds and fog near the coast. So it will be a rather dreary looking evening although we found a patch of blue from our rooftop camera here looking over the bay. It is currently 59 degrees at San Francisco and mid to upper 60s in mountain view, san jose. Check out this view. It looks dreary, looking westward, you cant see much there but clouds, temperatures are fairly uniform right now. Napa, novato, fairfield, concord and livemore. One more live view at Santa Cruz Beach where the skies are blue. Should be blue over the inland areas as well. Cloudy overnight conditions here in the bay area. Sunnier tomorrow. Warmer pattern for the holiday weekend. Not a lot warmer. Mild to warm going into next week as well. Overnight lots of clouds, mainly low clouds, low temperatures generally in the low to mid50s overnight, then tomorrow. Sunnier skies than weve seen of late in the south bay. 71 in santa clara. Over in the peninsula mainly upper 60s to 71 at palo alto and mountain view. Breezy with highs in the upper 50s to near 60. Up in the north bay sunny skies and highs generally in the low 70s from santa rosa to so nome na, napa. In the east bay, highs to the upper 60s away from the bay and over the hills well see highs in the inland east bay in the low to mid70s. I was going to do the sevenday forecast.
