Good morning to you. We have a patch of clouds over the bay area but live doppler 7hd shows that the cloudiness is thin and it will begin to push on out for a mostly sunny afternoon. So partly cloudy with numbers in the 40s. 50s at the coast. By noontime we will be well into the 50s. This afternoon a couple low to mid60s. Still sunny and dry a cool evening on tap. High pressure continues to build. We will have some gusty offshore winds. You know what that means. Temperatures continue to climb into the work week ahead. Ill have the 7 day forecast coming up. Carolyn. Thank you, lisa. Two more suspicious fires have been put out in san jose this morning where a serial arsonist has set as many as a dozen fires since wednesday. The first fire this morning was small enough to be handled by neighborhood at south 24th and east santa clara streets. About four hours ago a trailer burned behind a church on south 26th street. Nobody was injured in either fire. This is a police step of the man police and arson investigators are looking for. He was spotted near a house fire yesterday, which nearly trapped an elderly couple. Abc7 News ReporterLisa Amin Gulezian talks with worried neighbors who plan to distribute this sketch door to door the fire ravaged this victorian home before dawn. It belongs to an elderly couple who moved in 50 years ago. They barely got out alive. They opened the door and tell them get out. Get out. The house is on fire. Jose helped them escape. Hes learning more about what he can do as a Downtown Resident to protect himself from an arsonist. You dont know who did this . Don is part of the 13th street neighborhood advisory committee. Hes talking with his neighbors about the man investigators believe started at least eight fires. Hopefully this person realizes that folks are after them and stops doing this because its absolutely outrageous. This is video from a surveillance camera across the street. You see a man walking back and forth four times before the fire. Police want to talk to him. These fires have targeted san jose residents in the darkest hours of the night when they are most vulnerable. Residents will go door to door passing out the sketch and. Smoke detectors. He is leading the effort. One fire is one fire too many. Its clear this is a guy who intends to do harm and weve got to do everything we can to protect each other. The Firefighters Union is offering a 10,000 reward. In san jose, Lisa Amin Gulezian, abc7 news. Developing news, a minor Traffic Accident on interstate 280 has led to a shooting in the bay view involving an offduty San Francisco police officer. The fenderbender occurred on the freeway, but the shooting happened when the officer and the other driver pulled into a gas station just after the midnight collision. Police say the two got into a physical altercation at the chevron stationary jerrold avenue and bay shore boulevard. During the scuffle the unidentified female officer fired her gun, striking the other person in the lower body. Police say the injury is not serious. The victim has refused medical treatment. This morning investigators plan to enter a palo alto house where two bodies were found friday following a fire. Flames broke out about 7 15 friday night in a home on the 900 block of embarcadero road. The structure is still not stable. Crews have not been able to go inside yet. They plan to do that today. A next door neighbor said a man and his caretaker lived in the home. Their names have not been released. This morning a man who was shot in San Franciscos Mission District is recovering from surgery. It was just after 5 30 last night when Police Received a report of a gunshot victim. He was found on shotwell street between 23rd and 24th and rushed to the hospital. Bad weather is preventing a Recovery Team from reaching the site where a plane crash killed a bay area tech executive. And also members of his family. Dale smith, his son and daughterinlaw, along with his daughter and her fiancee, all died after the plane crashed back in early december. The wreckage was found friday, nearly a month and a half after the plane disappeared from radar in a remote part of idaho. Smiths wife spoke with abc7 news. We have waited a long time to have some kind of closer and we kind of knew their chances were not good. This has allowed us to just identify exactly what happened and to move on and not be in that waiting place. Dale smiths brother found the wreckage. He spoke with abc7 news by phone yesterday. You are just so happy that you found the plane, you know, and then after a couple of seconds that kind of disappears and the grief hits you because you found the plane. Crews will meet tomorrow to consider options for reaching the remote crash site and recovering those bodies. The effort to create a park in memory of slain 13yearold andy lopez will cost Sonoma County somewhere between 2 million and 3 million. Andy lopez was shot to death october 22nd by a Sonoma County sheriffs deputy while carrying a bb gun designed to look like an ak47 assault rifle. A memorial is being built in the vacant lot where he died, but Community Members angered by the shooting want a park to be built there and named for him. A report by county officials on the cost of the park will be presented to the board of supervisors on tuesday. The nationwide flu outbreak continues to grow. Officials have confirmed eleven bay area deaths due to the flu. Two others in the county have been attributed to the virus but Health Officials are still waiting for test results to come back. This year the flu is not just affecting the very young and very old. More than 60 of patients are between 18 and 64. Thats twice as many as last year. According to the cdc, 37 states highlighted here in red, including california, are reporting widespread flu activity. In san rafael, Medical Center of marin sponsored a free flu clinic yesterday. The goal was to vaccinate as many people as possible in the community to help stop the virus from spreading. I try to encourage everyone to get a flu shot because the flu shot will help protect you against several various other flus, including the h1n1 virus which is the most virulent of the group and causing the most of the illness and deaths. According to the state health department, getting the flu shot can reduce your chances of getting the virus by 50 to 70 . More flooding following last weeks arctic blast. We have incredible video. A fastmoving storm pounded the already dill luged east coast producing dangerous flooding conditions. Take a look at this submerged s. U. V. In florida on what was once a road beside the canal. In new york residents of 20 homes evacuate bid bulldozer after the Buffalo Creek flooded the roadway. In nearby west seneca, upstate boats were sent to rescue people from waterfilled streets. Two people were rescued from a car stranded in floodwaters. The pair rescued to safety. The warming temperatures causing flooding in lowlying areas. In atlanta, georgia a 14yearold girl trapped after strong winds sent a tree crashing through the roof of this mobile home. A delicate situation where we had to keep the tree stable at all times so it didnt continue to fall on this young lady. She is in the hospital in serious condition. In North Carolina up to 90 Miles Per Hour winds causing condos under construction to collapse. The roof of this gun shop outside of charlotte caved in by the torrential downpours. I said we better get out of here, it looks like the walls are coming in. Major ice jams along waterways pushing rivers over their banks and into streets and communities. Caving in this philadelphia parking lot after 13,000 gallons of water rushed in. Abc news. Some muchneeded rain was finally back in the bay area yesterday. This video was taken in San Franciscos chinatown. The roads were also wet in marin with the north bay being most of the rain from oakland into San Francisco just past the toll plaza on the approach to the bay bridge there were only a few sprinkles. The storm system brought a welcome sight in tahoe, snow. This is video of heavenly mountain yesterday afternoon, courtesy tahoe tv. It was only a few inches but it is the first measurable snow around tahoe since early september. So really what weve got in the bay area was really more than a spritzle, lisa. Yeah. Reporter through the piercing sound of screaming fans, ukiss danced and sang their way through the first and only show in San Francisco on this tour. And for lead performer kevin woo, this is a welcomed homecoming. I havent lived in the bay area since i was 16, a freshman in high school. Kevin grew up in danville and went to monte vista high school. He joined ukiss about four years ago. Since then its been a whirlwind adventure into the kpop. Or korean pop. We have a huge swell for a High Surf Advisory today. Temperatures are cooler this morning without the insulation of all the cloud cover. 48 in san jose. Its 48 Half Moon Bay with low 40s redwood city. Its been chilly in the 30s for you and oakland has warmed up considerably. You see some of the hayer clouds from our east bay hills camera on top of vollmer peak. Looking to be another fine day out there. 38 in napa, low 40s fairfield and livermore, one of the cooler locks with your fog this morning. But within the next hour it will be lifting and you, too, will get into a sunny morning and a warmer afternoon. And from sutro you can see the sunshine. A few clouds, sunny today. Near record warmth by tuesday and wednesday. We are going to warm up as much as five to six degrees just tomorrow. So today will be the coolest day. Even though we are out of the 50s. We saw the 50s yesterday with the cloud cover and mist and drizzle. Today we are sitting much cooler in napa. A few degrees cooler in Mountain View and san carlos and Half Moon Bay. Weve been watching the northwest swell with buoys reporting 18 feet at 14 seconds so from the Sonoma County coast all the way down through santa cruz, very dangerous conditions out there. But the surf there subside tonight and better conditions tomorrow. High pressure is building in once again and its going to build in strong. As it does, we will have an offshore flow to contend with, and thats going to bring the fire danger up. Already we are so bone dry and we are going to get some gusty winds. Its also going to boost the numbers to record warmth. Not only tuesday and wednesday, through the end of the work week, as well. Add in thursday. Today normal high should be 56 and San Francisco should see 59. And look at all the low to mid60s with the sunshine we will see 64 oakland, 62 in napa with mid60s out toward livermore. So really warming up after the fog burns back. The accuweather sevenday forecast then warmer tomorrow. The warmest day is tuesday, wednesday, thursday. Bay side inland 70s, even beyond that with 60s at the coast and then a little bit of cooling saturday. We dont care about that, we want rain.
