Good morning, to you. Happy sunday. Im Cornell Barnard in for carolyn tyler. Lets start off with a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. Good morning. Good morning. The High Pressure is pushing down on the atmosphere and thats allowed for patchy dense fog this morning. Cooler this morning for some but we will finish up warmer. 60 in san jose and sunshine in our east bay. Next couple of hours we get to reveal more sunshine. It will be brighter here. 80 noontime inland, 07 around the bay. Look at the coast. Its cool and breezy around the bay. Warming up inland plenty of 90s and warmer weather ahead. Cornell. Andy lopez was killed last year by a sheriffs deputy who was not charged with the crime. Lisa amin gulezian has more. [sirens] reporter cries for justice while hundreds protested the district attorneys decision to clear the officer of any wrongdoing. The officer shot and killed andy lopez after he mistook the teenagers air soft pellet gun for a real assault rifle. [chanting] the protests took a surprising turn as a group of activists split from the majority and marched up the third street offramp of northbound 101. They have blocked traffic until chp officers coached them off the highway. Once on the street. Protesters were met by dozens of officers. The group made another unexpected move by marching straight into macys in santa rosa plaza. Everybody was standing off to the side, letting them pass a lot of cheering. They were very, very passionate. They had the signs and everything. About 50 people packed the main aisle of the lower level of macys. They were in and out in just 30 seconds. These macys employees didnt find the march through macys to be disruptive. I think people need an opportunity to be heard is if you were to squash that or squelch that it could be worse. Meanwhile, supporters vowed to keep up the fight. They want the officer gone. He needs to be charged, tried and hopefully convicted. The deputy has returned to duty. Lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. There is an amazing story of a marin county woman who has helped free slaves on another side of the world. We first told you about her 16 years ago. She is not slowing down. Reporter these are the happy faces of girls freed from slavery. This is from filmmaker roy cox, documenting the end of a crew custom in western nabal, the sale of young girls as indentured servants. Now these young women are starting their own businesses. Its beyond anything i ever imagined. Olga of sausalito is the amazing woman that set the stage for this victory 30 years ago. Olga was a lawyer about to retire when she went on a trek to nepal. We ran across many, many children on the trail, and they all wanted to go to school. Sending those children to school became olgas obsession. She founded the Nepal Youth Foundation that gave us this video. Olga started raising money to provide scholarships, homes for abandoned children, nutrition programs, and then the group began rescuing girls sold into bondage. Little tiny girls, six, seven, eight, nine years off, going off to a city, working 18 hours a day. The rescue effort was led by a man who years before had himself received a scholarship from olga. Now hes president of the youth foundation. Nobody paid attention that little girls are being sold and bought every day. They were sold by their own parents, desperately poor families who felt they had no other way to survive. The girls would work for a year and then be sold again for the next year. The Foundation Came up with a plan, an incentive. If parents sent their girls to school instead of work. Gave each family a baby pig and they could raise that piglet and at the end of the year sell it for as much or more than they got for their daughters labor. The results are phenomenal. Almost 13,000 girls freed from slavery in a little more than a decade. Most of the rescued girls are in school, but the older ones also get vocational training. A coop loan fund is helping them start businesses. From taylor shops to growing seasonal vegetables. We trained the only woman plumber in nepal, the only motorcycle repair shop in nepal that is run by a woman. Some of the girls have been extremely successful, supporting their parents, supporting their own college education. The foundation now gets contributions from around the world. But the first donors were all from the bay area. And the tradition continues. These marin county middle school girls raised money with bake sales, babysitting and a readathon. Back in nepal a big Public Awareness campaign has virtually eliminated the practice of selling children. Earlier this year olga was at a public celebration for freed girls. Just in front of me were 30 girls that were freed and just taken the College Entrance exam and were going to college. I thought this is victory. Eric thomas, abc news. Those young women who started businesses have invested 40,000 in a loan fund to help free other girls. The need is huge so a foundation is helping to match that investment with 40,000 more. Really brightening up and we will be warming up further today as High Pressure strengthens. We are seeing that as the marine layer lowers with mist and drizzle. Heres live doppler 7hd and the fog. Right now hugs the shoreline. We will get some clear recollection. We had a little yesterday. Through the east bay hills camera you can see the fog. Temperatures across the bay ranging from the mid50s half moon bay, 59 san carlos, to 60 in san jose where it is sunny right now. You can see for yourself. And numbers have been warmer where the sun is shining longer. Concord 64 and fairfield 66. And pretty much clear in the north bay. Napa lagging behind at 58. You are going to have a warm day today in the 80s. From our roof camera, nice and calm right now. But the winds will pick up today from the west, over 20 miles an hour. Thats going to mean a breezy afternoon in the city. Warmer today for most. It should be a nice beach day with temperatures in the 060s, maybe upper 60s toward point reyes and the summer spread takes us through the next couple days before some changes come our way once again. Heres a look at the sky up toward the east bay. The first column represents the average highs with the averages today. You notice that we are a little bit warmer and we will see the temperatures continue that climb. So 77 is the average in mountain view. It should be about 80 today. And mid80s newspaper up in napa. A few clouds tomorrow and tuesday. Triple digits from chico to sacramento and yosemite. 114 in palm springs. Mountain thunderstorms in southern california. These will continue to creep up into the suggests earn and northern sierra and we will get some here tonight in our own bay area. Temperatures across the bay very summerlike with mid90 eats returning for antioch and fairfield. 84 in vallejo. 74 richmond. Very pleasant in the east bay. Oakland 74. Fremont 77. Low to mid80s. Getting warm toward morgan hill and 64 half moon bay. 83 in santa rosa. So with the next couple of days, including more heat and a stronger ridge of High Pressure, we will look for upper 90s in livermore and beginning to trail off on tuesday. Then the rest of the week looking rather typical in the mid80s. Headed into San Francisco, temperatures climbing to the 60s. With the sea breeze it should be a Beautiful Day at the at t park. It never gets too hot in the city. Oakland with a pattern, even though a little warmer tomorrow. Upper 90s. Pretty hot inland. And staying warm until tuesday. Then the low trailing off our temperatures at the coast and just steady. Something for everybody in the bay area, right . All right. Lisa, thank you.
