Its almost a summertime pattern, waking up to the low clouds and fog that are already retreating. We are looking at the sunshine the delta and concord. Visibility newt twothirds of a mile in the north bay. All the cloud cover to the north. A piece of energy will floatly Northern California and that will increase the marine layer. Beach temperatures and limited sunshine. This is syracuse right now. Highs in the 60s. Speaking of south bay we have clouds now, plenty ever sunshine. Temperatures a bit above average today. Low 50s for our inland valleys and upper 40s with the fog in santa rosa. So we will lack for the fog to hang out at the coast and is talk in detail about the numbers today and a big warmup coming up. Chris. Thanks. Breaking news out of pennsylvania where two people have died in an amtrak train accident south of philadelphia. There were 341 passengers passengers open board and crewmembers. 340 people have been injured. The train hit a backhoe that was on the track t happened just before 5 00 a. M. Our time. The about lead engine derailed on the train that was traveling from it kind of threw us you have the chairs, what we were sitting in. And there was a lot of smoke and everybody was like the train kind of stopped and everyone was running to the front. Ac track has suspended all service between philadelphia and new york city. A mother and her young daughter are safe this morning but the search for them may have been connected to the investigation of a man wellknown for being beaten by almeda county sheriffs deputy. Abc7 news has the latest. Reporter police say 23yearold dana rinta and her oneyearold daughter, scarlet, were found you unharmed. They were reported missing the same day that officers raided a home where they arrested stanislav petrov, who police say is her exboyfriend. You can see him handcuffed, led out of the house by the fbi and put in the back of a police car. We know at some point in time they were, and there is conversation that we want to have with her. Investigators want to talk to rinta about him. Petrov is also the man seen in this Surveillance Video. Hes suing the almeda county Sheriffs Office after deputies were seen beating him last november. He led the police on a chase in a stolen car and nows back in custody facing federal prosecution. That was a federal investigation that we partnered with. It involves the fact that mr. Petrov is not supposed to be in possession of firearms. I spoke with rintas mother on the phone. She told me she does not know petrov and hes not scarletts father. The mother and daughter were last seen in the balboa park neighborhood on march 14th. Police wont say where they were found. A source says petrov is also the suspect in a Domestic Violence case. This afternoon, San Leandro Police are planning to provide more details about recent attacks by someone who has gone from shooting out windows to firing at people all with a bb gun. Had last night detectives gave us these pictures showing a man holding a bb gun, as well as the car used in the crime. See someone firing a bb gun in this Surveillance Video captured in january. More than 120 cars have been damaged since december. That adds up to 60,000 in damage. In this video a window was shot out at an upholstery store on east 14th street. New details about a vandalism mystery in monterey. Karen cummings provided this picture. Its the head from a statue. A girl found the head of the statue in breakwater cove yesterday afternoon. Vandals knocked the head off at the presidio of monterey in october. Someone else defaced a statue in for carmel mission. If about. New video shows the aftermath of a fire that shows a lakeview drive home last night. This morning two people are recovering from smoke inhalation that gutted a home in bay point just before 6 00 last night. Contra costa county Fire Protection district provided this footage. It took crews about 40 minutes to put out the fire on lakeview drive. Firefighters believe the fire caused about 300,000 in damage. There was suspicious activity before the fire started. In solano county, a man is accused of attacking and robbing two women on a hiking trail. The Sheriffs Office has released a sketch of the man. The attack happened a week ago friday afternoon in the cold canyon reserve. The women say he showed them a gun, attacked one of them and stole their money. They said the suspect spoke broken english with a heavy accent. A weekend skiing trip didnt happen for a group of students from the university of San Francisco, and you can see why. This Facebook Page photo shows their charter bus on fire yesterday morning. This happened along interstate 80. 40 students were evacuated from the bus. No one was hurt but some of their luggage was damaged. The students were put on a bus back to San Francisco. At this point theres no word yet on what caused the fire. A group of teenagers from san Franciscos Bayview district are back home after a lifechanging trip. It was all part of operation genesis, a program created by a San Francisco Police Officer who also raised money for it. His mission is to enrich the lives of young people. Lisa has the story. The first to greet this group of tired and weary travelers and San Francisco police chief greg suhr. This was a trip full of firsts. The first time many used a passport. First tame most left home, and the First Time Ever truly seeing the world outside of the bay view. San Francisco Police officer Jason Johnson started operation genesis to give these kids a chance to change and grow. I realized they didnt really know about their culture, where they came from and the struggles they took and why they have the opportunities they have. We were there as the teenagers left their neighborhood for the eightday long trip. While in ghana they donated st. Louis to schools, spent time with kids and time in villages. Poverty was hard to ignore. You can be grateful for everything because not everybody has it like us. Some it dont have shoes or nice clothes and out here we have everything and we cant even say hello to one another. A sense of gratitude and community are two things mike promises to build once he gets home because life in the bayview can be dark and lonely. I had to walk someone past him, and i could interact. Usually they take offense to that but i want to bridge the gap between me and my neighbors. This 16 year old is starting with his own family and with this African Unity bowl. Mike is the youngest of seven and has a brother in prison. Hes sure his brother would have made different choices had he gone on this trip. This parent said she never expected to get a call from her son saying he had been robbed inside a bart station. Scared, traumatized. Her twelveyearold son talks about the chilling Armed Robbery that happened at the el~cerrito del norte station on friday about 6 00 p. M. He was coming home from his cousins house when a man came from behind and told him to keep walking. We agreed not to show his face. Then he put a gun to my waist. I didnt know what it was, but i looked down and saw the gun. The man ordered him to keep moving down the station stairway. He told me to stop where there wasnt cameras. So they couldnt see him. He reached in my pockets and felt my wallet. He said the suspenct then demanded his backpack. Did you give him his backpack. No. What happened. I pushed him off. The suspect got away. Where are the police . Theres i know theres a Police Station at the bart station. Bart police told us offcamera officers patrol station property, but are not always inside. Police are investigating the the robbery and will review any Security Camera footage but at this point there are few leads. Last year a man not on the train and called 19yearold man in oakland cameras may have been decoys and did not record the crime. Meanwhile the suspect is at large. In the meantime this mom is glad her son was not hurt. We have to find another means of him traveling. His mom says so more bart trips for now. Abc7 news. An update to the case of the missing man from san mateo. Michael schafer has been found dead in San Francisco. Police did not tell us how he died. He had been reported missing on monday and his family was concerned that he didnt have his medication. This morning we know a san diego roller derby player died in a freak plane crash on a freeway. A single engine plane landed on its belly open interstate 15 north of san diego and skidded some 250 feet before slamming into the back of a nissan ultima yesterday morning. The person was sitting in the back of the car and was killed immediately. She and her teammates were parked on the shoulder as the driver adjusted his bluetooth when the train hit the car. Five people were hurt, including the pilot and his passenger. Nerveracking seeing the plane come over the top of me and hit the road and slide and hit car. The planes original owner is former new york yankees catcher matt knoaks, who also played for the giants in the beginning of his career. He had the plane built from a kit. In a strange twist matt made an Emergency Landing in the same plane on the same interstate 156 years ago. The plane will be towed so the investigators can take a closer look what happened. The governor will sign the minimum wage deal tomorrow. It will raise the minimum wage to 15 an hour. He said it proves team can get ahead. It will go up each year reaching the 15 in 2022. He said it provides flexibility as Economic Conditions change. Abalone hunters are hitting the water this weekend for the opening of the season. Mild weather and surf suggests good conditions for the shellfish. But abalone hunting is dangerous because of the physical demands of strong waves and the tankless diving.
