Derek hough on dancing with the stars just days after being rushed to the hospital. And maks fiery clash with the guest judge. The dance moms big drama on dancing. I really dont care for anything that she has to say. Oh, maksie. Good morning, america. Boy, what a night for amy purdy. You know, she had that shoulder injury last week, but she bounced back last night. She really did. The semifinals are just a week away, and the competition is fierce. And that was a perfect score for her in her first dance with derek hough. Got a perfect 10. Got everybody on their feet. Well hear a little later from danica mckellar, the latest castoff. Looking forward to talking to her. Thats all coming up. Lots of news to get to, as well, including a rare earthquake advisory for the midwest. Amy has the top stories, starting with a huge inferno in california. It is causing such a mess out west. Good morning. We begin with the breaking story overnight. The major highway that links los angeles to las vegas is shut down right now. It could be closed for days because of a fire on this bridge, causing a traffic nightmare affecting hundreds of thousands of drivers. Abcs cecilia vega is in los angeles. Reporter the collapse caught on camera. A nightmare on interstate 15, the major artery connecting l. A. To las vegas. Intense flames erupting after a construction workers blowtorch ignited wooden supports on this overpass. It made it even worse, but the fire itself was pretty insane. Reporter debris crashing down onto the freeway below. The result, traffic at a standstill for miles. Overnight, this view from the air, people trapped in their cars for hours on end. Im trying to get around this stuff. Reporter the entire bridge will now have to be rebuilt. 59 million already spent on repairs down the drain. Workers forced to start all over. The highway, closed in both directions for two days. The good news, only one worker suffered minor injuries. No one else was hurt. For Good Morning America, cecilia vega, abc news, los angeles. What a mess. Thank you, cecilia. And an unexpected danger for crews who were ftrying to put out a deadly wildfire near oklahoma city. Ammunition exploded as flames swept through one house hitting a firefighter with shrapnel. One was treated for smoke inhalation. The fire burning since sunday, is now 75 contained. In colorado, a small plane crashed right into this house near denver. But the pilot, a veteran firefighter, climbed out of the wreckage, was able to grab a garden hose to try and start putting out those 234r5i78s. Remarkably, the pilot once owned that very house. He didnt realize it until after the crash. Overseas, Government Troops are on the move in ukraine this morning fighting to take back territory lost to prorussia fighters and to protect the key port city of odessa. More than 30 prorussia fighters have reportedly been killed, as well as several civilians. Meantime, an airport in the east has been partially shut down for military operations. More than 1 million in gold has been recovered from a sunken ship off south carolina. That gold has been on the ocean floor since the ship that was carrying it sank back in the mid1850s killing more than 400 people. The site has been undisturbed for years because of legal disputes. Investors who backed previous expeditions will share most of the loot. And a big concern for coffee drinkers this morning. Weve been telling you about the drought in brazil. Thats raising prices here in the United States. But now a fungus is killing the Central American coffee crop. Traders say coffee prices could shoot up by as much as 80 . And finally, you dont often see melting cheese falling from the sky. But as they say, anything can happen in new york. Some entrepreneurs from australia are bringing their Grilled Cheese by parachute idea to the big apple. Heres how they claim it works. You order. You pay online, then you show up at a predetermined time and place. Theres an x that marks the spot. Thats when your sandwich will then float into your waiting hands. The next days drop zone will be announced on facebook and twitter so the magic can happen all over again. Apparently its 5 for a regular Grilled Cheese. 6 bucks for a ham and cheese. I dont know. It seems kind of like a lot of work. Why . That sounds like one of the dumbest ideas ive ever heard. And yet you can see people waiting in this alley waiting for their Grilled Cheese to come. How do you know its yours . What if they miss . What if it got stuck on a building. You jump off and get it. You really must want it. What if i just walk into a place and order it and watch them make it. Whats the fun in that . All right, amy. Thank you. Were going to move on now to that worldwide outrage over that mass abduction. The terrorist group that kidnapped nearly 300 girls now threatening to sell them. Abcs Martha Raddatz has the latest and joins us this morning from washington. Good morning, martha. Reporter good morning, robin. This morning, the wave of outrage is growing with social media spreading the word, but every day that passes, it will become more difficult to find the girls. These are believed to be the names released by a Christian Group of the some 300 girls abducted from their boarding school at bedtime, and this is the man behind it, the leader of the terrorist group boko haram, sneering, taunting. I took your girls, they are our slaves, he said, i will sell them in the market. These girls are among some 50 who managed to escape in the chaos. One girl describing how she jumped from the truck and ran. Reporter Alexis Okeowo spoke to another girl who escaped. She described the night of the kidnapping. They told the girls were taking you to safety and then when the men started shooting their guns in the air, and they start yelling god is great in arabic, the girls started realizing, were not in the military anymore. Were with boko haram. Reporter boko haram means western education is a sin. The terrorist group is known as nigerias taliban loosely affiliated with al qaeda. They are responsible for many massacres. Earlier this year slaughtering 50 teenage schoolboys. Like the girls, just wanting an education. Officials say it is likely that some of the girls have already been shipped across the border into neighboring countries of niger and chad and sold into marriage. Were going to do everything we can to assist nigeria in their efforts to find and free those young women, those girls. Reporter and the Hashtag Bringbackourgirls has now been used over a million times with celebrities continuing to spread the word and malala, the young pakistani girl shot by the taliban, adding her voice, as well. As of this hour, the nigerians, despite a vow to find the girls, have not asked the u. S. For help. At the very least, we could provide intelligence and satellite imagery. Robin . Do whatever we can. Everyone. And this has been for weeks now people have been talking about this, and finally, finally so scary that the girls might have been dispersed, weve got to stay on this. Well turn now to the latest on that horrifying circus accident. Investigators zeroing on what caused the eight acrobats to plunge to the ground. And abcs gio benitez is covering that story from outside the arena in providence, rhode island. Good morning, gio. Reporter good morning, george. This is a much smaller version of the device that failed. Its a metal fastener thats supposed to hole the two cables together. And this solid side, this is the side that snapped during the show, causing that dramatic collapse. This morning, new details about what sent eight aerial performers plunging to the ground. Take a look at this photo. Thats where a metal fastener, the carabiner, was positioned holding the apparatus in the air. The fiveinch clip is designed to support up to 10,000 pounds. The weight of the apparatus and the performers, just 1,500. That carabiner failed. It was a single piece of equipment that failed. Reporter the carabiner was found in three pieces on the ground, and there was no backup carabiner above or a net below. The performers fell 35 feet onto just a thin, rubber mat. Everything is followed to protocol. Safety is paramount. A couple of the performers who are injured have said they cannot wait to get back to perform. Reporter wendy neves was upside down and in the middle of the human chandelier. Abc news spoke with her father in brazil. She is okay. She is doing okay, only has a broken arm and some fractures on the neck and the back, too. Reporter were learning more about the young womens incredible highflying, hairraising stunt. The performer hangs by special rings that are woven through her hair. Sometimes its just the hair itself braided in a special knot. Reporter watch in this new documentary two performers prep their hair with special treatments, usually avocado and egg. Human hair so strong experts say it can support 12 tons. Meanwhile, back here in providence, the circus has left town. But eight performers are still in the hospital. The good news, robin, nobody is in Critical Condition. That is good news, gio. Thank you. Now, to a rare earthquake advisory issued for oklahoma. The first of its kind for any state east of the rockies. Experts say theres a good chance a big one could hit there, and abcs ryan owens has the story. Reporter tornadoes, fires and now earthquakes. In oklahoma . Its appears now its becoming earthquake country, as well. Reporter the u. S. Geological survey issued a rare earthquake advisory for oklahoma warning that the risk of a damaging quake, magnitude 5. 5 or higher, has increased significantly for the central part of the state. Its really hard to say how big an earthquake could be or when that earthquake could happen. Reporter the ominous warning the very first of its kind for a state east of the rockies. It turns out the rate of earthquakes in oklahoma has increased by about 50 since october with 145 quakes measuring 3. 0 or above in the first four months of this year. Thats more than california saw in the same period of time. One of oklahomas first and last major quakes was a magnitude 5. 6 in 2011. We literally grabbed the bed to stabilize ourselves. Reporter while no one was hurt, it does highlight what could be a big problem. Unlike states like california, the buildings in oklahoma are not specifically built to withstand the kind of quake that could hit the sooner state sooner or later. Oklahomans should be thinking about earthquakes, thinking about preparing for earthquakes. Reporter some seismologists blame the increase in earthquakes here on the controversial practice of fracking, a way of extracting natural gas from the earth. The industry that does that which is very important to the economy down here, vehemently denies that. George and robin. Ill bet they do. Okay, ryan. We turn to a new health alert. A new warning from the fda about aspirin and heart attacks. And abcs dr. Richard besser here to explain that. Rich, so many of us have heard the advice about taking a baby aspirin to prevent a heart attack, but this warning says thats not for everyone. This is a big controversy. Theres absolutely disagreement. If you had a heart attack or stroke, taking a daily aspirin will reduce the chances of you having another one and save lives, but an aspirin manufacturer wanted to say on the label, take an aspirin to prevent your first heart attack. The fda said, no way. I dont have any heart problems, but my doctor has recommended taking an aspirin. Thats right, and many doctors are recommending that. What the fda found, though, was that the evidence to prevent that first aheart isnt there, and aspirin can cause internal pleading. And so they dont think its for everybody. But heres the thing. Theres ray big disagreement here. The American Heart Association says take that aspirin. Even the Government Panel there was asked to review this and says if youre at high risk, take an aspirin. If youre on aspirin, i wouldnt stop until you talk to your doctor. And the fda has been on this for a long time. They were asked to rule on this ten years ago. It took them ten years to come to this conclusion, and its i think we havent heard the end of the controversy. Okay, rich besser, thanks very much. Now, to that dramatic rescue off the coast of florida. Two men on a fishing trip, clinging to their boat for 17 hours after it was capsized by a rogue wave. Abcs john muller has that story for us. Reporter a wave among the waves. This is the incredible moment this is the incredible moment two sailors stranded at sea for 17 hours spot their salvation in the skies. A shear like 12foot rogue wave flipped the boat in a matter of seconds. Reporter Justin Bradley and his friend, cory bowman, seen here clinging to their capsized boat 12 miles off the coast of ft. Pierce, florida, monday. Their trouble began the day before soon after setting out on a fishing trip. They say a 12foot rogue wave came out of nowhere and toppled their 21foot boat. It threw me about 30 feet off the boat. My buddy went straight down. And we came up, surfaced. Reporter incredibly, they were able to salvage a small cooler with food and water. You can see them here holding on to it for dear life. Their wives alerting authorities when they didnt come home as planned sunday night. Finally, the duo was spotted by the coast guard about 50 miles from where they set out. Then, a stunning turn. Coast guard cameras rolling, another boater beats them to the punch. You can see here Good Samaritans on the other vessel pulling justin and cory to safety. Once they were thrown overboard, they realized that they didnt have any injuries. Reporter the men seen here, moments after their rescue, transferred to a coast guard boat. Both were dehydrated but alive and extremely grateful. Thanks to everybody that put their time in and was involved. If it wasnt for them, i wouldnt be here today. Now the two men say they kept focused and didnt panic because they truly believed that they would be rescued. It was actually when they saw their families back on land that they finally broke down. Everyone is healthy and grateful this morning. Robin, george. I bet they are, all right, john, thank you very much. And were grateful. You came bearing gifts again. Im always bringing treats. I know you are. You see me, put a smile on your face. All right.
