Bryan cranston. 11 seconds long. She said it was just fine shes pulling away. And the lipstick remains intact. You know, along with all the excitement, there was a very personal tribute from Billy Crystal for robin williams. And well hear his grateful words this morning about his dear, dear friend. So moving. Well begin with the latest on the crisis in the middle east. President obama has now authorized spy flights over syria using manned aircraft and drones to prepare for possible military strikes against the militant group isis. This comes as abc news learned about a new american hostage being held by the terrorists. Chief investigative correspondent brian ross is here with the details. Good morning. Good morning, george. A third american hostage held by isis has been identified as a 26yearold American Woman kidnapped a year ago while doing humanitarian relief work inside syria. The family has asked us not to use her name but say isis has threatened to execute her unless they pay ransom of more than 6 million or the u. S. Releases a certain highprofile prisoner. The family says the Young American was working at a hospital in the syrian city of aleppo when she was taken last year. The prisoner that isis wants year. The prisoner that isis wants released for her freedom is Aafia Siddiqui a pakistani doctor sentenced to 86 years in prison for the attempted murder of an american soldier in afghanistan. But now his family has come forward to plead for the young womans life. They were traumatized by the fact this someone else could be harmed in the name of aafia and expressed their opposition to it all. Reporter at the same time authorities continue to focus on the neighborhoods in london where several hundred young muslim men have been recruited to become some of the most brutal jihadists in the isis organization. Including this man, a onetime rapper known on youtube as ljinny whose father is awaiting trial in new york for the al qaeda attacks on u. S. Embassies in africa. Two weeks ago he posted this on social media, a man holding the severed head of a syrian soldier. A radical muslim cleric in london defended beheadings as just part of war. People kill each other. However gruesome it may look or shock the world. Reporter british Authorities Say they dont believe the rapper was the executioner of james foley, but say they are close to figuring out who he is. Starting with the eyes of the hooded man advanced facial recognition experts created this likeness of the possible killer first clean shaven, and then with a mustache. In addition to trying to recreate the face behind that mask authorities now are also as we reported continuing a voice analysis of the executioners distinct british accent. We had the significant new move by the president authorizing spy flights over syria. Trying to gather intelligence there. The president resisted going into syria with any kind of action, but now in the wake of the execution of james foley, that calculation seems to have changed. The syrians warning against it this morning. Thanks very much. Brian, we want to move now to the scorching heat. The hottest temperatures of the year for much of the nation and on each coast, big surf from two different hurricanes and ginger is tracking it all. Good morning, ginger. Well start with the dangerous heat and heat becomes dangerous when its cumulative and it has been. Yesterday st. Louis, first 100 of the season. And today the heat index, you can see, will value anywhere from 101 in houston to 99 in memphis. St. Louis on their seventh day with an excessive heat warning. Thats what happens. Now the heat dome presses east at least for a short time. New york city, philadelphia, d. C. All looking for 90s by the midweek. That will break quickly and well be talking about rough surf from cristobal, the hurricane out there in parts of the atlantic. It wont affect you unless youre getting in the water. Do look for dangerous rip currents, and then weve got hurricane marie. At closest point about 800 miles away, waves could reach 10 to even 20 feet, george. Okay, ginger, thanks very much. Everyone is trying to squeeze some fun out of these last weeks of summer. When you fill up the car this Labor Day Weekend youll get a nice surprise at the pump. Abcs Rebecca Jarvis here with the details. Good morning. Hi, george. Good morning, at least its going to cost you less getting to that fun if youre driving. Gas prices this Labor Day Weekend are expected at their lowest level in four years. The National Average price for a gallon of gas this morning is 3. 43. That is already a full 16 cents cheaper than last labor day, and its going to be nice relief for those 29. 7 million americans expected to hit the road in a few days for the Labor Day Holiday weekend trying to get in those last moments with the family this summer, george. Rebecca, whats behind the drop . The big thing is oil is dropping in a nutshell because we saw prices earlier in the summer above 100 a barrel. There were fears that the instability in iraq would hit oil supplies. They didnt in any major way plus here in the United States were producing the most oil since 1972. That is driving oil prices down and as a result, prices at the pump are dropping too. This will continue . This will continue. It gets better from here, george. Prices are expected to average 3. 20 to 3. 25 for the rest of the year. Fantastic. Thanks very much, rebecca. Now to amy with todays other top stories. Good morning, everyone. We begin with the desperate search for a new jersey student missing in israel. There are concerns that 23yearold aaron sofer may have been kidnapped while hiking outside jerusalem as revenge for the brutal killing of a palestinian teenager. You may remember his body was found in the same area last month. But no evidence of any foul play linking those cases, he was apparently hiking in a steep area with no water. Meanwhile, after eight weeks of war, a leader of hamas say they have agreed to an extended cease fire with israel. Israeli officials have yet to confirm. Now to our exclusive interview with the mother of theo curtis, the american held hostage in syria for 22 months. This morning nancy curtis is revealing the first thing she did after learning her boy was finally coming home and what hes doing now. What was the moment like when you heard he was free . I got a call from the fbi agent, and she said, nancy, your son is standing beside me right now. Reporter her son, 45yearold freelance journalist theo curtis finally on his way home this morning after being held hostage in syria for nearly two years. I spoke with him briefly yesterday. Reporter what was that like . He was so excited saying mom, they are being so nice to me and they put me in this 12star hotel, and im drinking a beer and there are women. Reporter curtis released to u. S. Government personnel sunday. His captors, syrian militants loyal to al qaeda letting him go just six days after a different terror group, isis, brutally murdered american james foley. The first thing i did, i sat down, i sent the email to diane foley. Who weve been through so much together and i didnt want her to hear it from the media first. You had received, i believe, a month earlier a very frightening piece of video. Yeah. Reporter your son pleading for his life. Saying i have three days left. The fbi, bless their hearts, did not show me the video. You dont want to see your child in distress, fearful. Reporter it was interesting. You told me earlier all the things that theo will have to catch up on. He doesnt even know obama has been reelected. He doesnt know about twitter. I didnt even know about twitter. All right. I got a little carried away. Twitter was created back in 2006. Looking forward to theos tweets when he returns which is expected soon as soon as deemed physically and mentally well enough to travel. Were certainly happy for the curtis family. There is new video this morning of severe flooding in south korea. The water so powerful it swept away this city bus, flipping it over. No word on his motive. And swimmers in massachusetts are back on alert after another great white shark spotted off the coast from a police headquarter. He looks pretty big. That beach, though, open once again this morning. And finally the lunch hour in one office was especially wild the other day. Thats because this guy was blocking the hallway to the cafeteria. What is that . Thats a moose. He apparently just walked in and then just stood there. He refused to budge for six hours. I thought it was an art installation. Six hours, yes. Happened in germany and police had to tranquilize him and returned him back to the woods but he was not moving and no one was eating apparently. Are we sure thats not james franco doing one of his installations in costume . Thank you. Thank you, amy. We turn now to the growing ebola crisis.
