Lets get right to abcs matt dowd and, matt, first off, a new interview with donald trump last night about all this talk that he should pivot and heres what he said. I want to get your reaction on the back side. I am who i am. Its me. I dont want to change. Everybody talks about youre going to pivot. I dont want to pivot. You have to be you. If you start pivoting youre not being honest with people. So, no pivot, no reset and then, overnight, another major shakeup, is that a reset . Hes trying to reset his campaign without resetting himself, david. But i think the problem here is that when your Football Team is losing and your quarterback is throwing interceptions and fumbling, changing your line coach and assistant coaches isnt going to affect this. It sounds to me like theyve doubled down on the fact theyll let donald trump be donald trump. The problem with that, it only gets you to 40 or 41 and thats not a victory. As you know, matt, 82 days left until election day. A lot of people at home saying it cant get here fast enough. With the trump team facing tough numbers in the battleground states now against Hillary Clinton, how important does that make the first debate for donald trump and really for clinton . Does she have to be ready for anything, even some of the most uncomfortable topics thrown her way . Well, its the most important moment left in the campaign and for each side of this. Donald trump is the only way he can change the dynamics of this race, david, in this. He cant its no longer a state battle its National Battle and he has to change the National Battle before any states come in line. Hillary clinton basically, if she performs well at that debate and responds to him well, she puts this race away in that first debate. Its all its the entire ball game that first debate. Matt dowd, always appreciate your insight, thanks. Louisiana, now, facing historic deadly flooding. Search teams going door to door looking for survivors as the waters rise. Its been a lot of fun. Come on. This u. S. Gymnastics team was expected to do well. But a recordsetting olympics for them. They the final five have done spectacularly well. Im so impressed with these young girls and simone biles lived up to the billing, shes walking away with four olympic gold medals and an olympic bronze medal. That one slipup she had on the balance beam, i know at the end of the day shell be beating herself up over that because its the mentality of a gymnast but she has to leave feeling very satisfied. What does she do for an encore . Do we worry about that right now, enjoy it, i remember when i came back from the 92 olympics when i was 15 years old i was back in the gymnastics gym the next day because i loved the sport so much and i was still a kid and believe it or not this young girl is still a kid so hopefully she thinks about another olympics games in four years but enjoy this moment. He called his boss and said i cant come back till i get it. Gma to the rescue. We did it. First this half hour to outrage growing over a 12yearold hunter posting pictures of her big game on facebook smiling next to animals shes killed, it has sparked a fierce backlash, even death threats, and she and her dad are speaking out. Abcs diane macedo has the story. Good morning, diane. Reporter good morning, david. She named her Facebook Page braids and bows. And when you look at the photos, you realize she doesnt mean the kind that go in your hair. While many call her a murderer she says shes actually saving these animals. This morning, a 12yearold is under fire after posting these images on social media posing with a giraffe and a zebra, animals she killed while hunting with her dad in africa. Its something that i cherish and i enjoy and i want other people to see that what ive been able to experience. Reporter Aryanna Gourdin and her father took the hunting trip last week, one of their many over the past five years. In this facebook photo with a zebra, she writes one of my dream hunts for sure but online, outrage, 73,000 comments on this post alone. Some calling aryanna sick and an animal hater, even threatening the 12yearolds life. They love animals, but i mean we love animals too. Its just we also love hunting. Reporter still some are defending the father daughter duo writing let the haters hate. Hunt away, aryanna. Were proud to be hunters and well never apologize for being a hunter. Reporter aryannas dad says critics should mind their business. I dont tell anybody else how to raise their children. Reporter he maintains the hunting farm told them the giraffe was a problem animal and this isnt the first time social media has created a firestorm over big game hunts. Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer sparked International Outrage after killing cecil the lion in zimbabwe. But for aryanna, despite the backlash, she says shell keep hunting. I would never back down from hunting. Because im a hunter and no matter what the people say to me, im never going to stop. And aryanna also wrote on facebook that the money from her hunts all go toward conservation efforts but, david and robin, her critics are responding saying she should continue with the conservation part but theyd rather she stop with the hunting. And you can understand the dad says mind your business but on the other hand, its all on facebook. It goes in circles and you can see just thousands and thousands of comments of people weighing in on both sides. On both sides. Great to see you, diane. Likewise. Now to a disturbing story out of tulsa. A man shot and killed by a neighbor just moments after police left the scene. The victims family says the alleged shooter tormented them for years because of their nationality. Abcs Clayton Sandell has the latest. Reporter this morning, one victims family is reeling from a murder they believe is clearly a hate crime. He just was a sweet, sweet soul. Reporter 31yearold Khalid Jabara was shot and killed in tulsa, oklahoma, friday allegedly at the hand of a neighbor who his family says terrorized them for years, 61yearold stanley majors. He would call us racial slurs, dirty lebanese. Arabs, muslims, even though my family is christian, he was hateful, just hateful. Anybody over here who can start to a shooting. Reporter jabara called 911 friday, worried majors had a gun and tulsa police came but then left without making an arrest. If we knocked on the door and he doesnt answer, theres nothing that gives us the opportunity to go into his house. Reporter but just eight minutes after they left police say majors shot and killed jabara on his own front porch. Jabaras family says this was a hate crime, neighbors saw it too. He walked on to your property and started screaming to my family, all you mexicans, we are here. Reporter he was arrested for running down jabaras mother with his car last september despite prosecutors objections in may, majors was released on bond. How did this man get out of jail . We definitely want to make sure that it doesnt happen again. Reporter police are still investigating a motive. This was an ongoing dispute with neighbors so, yeah, theres hate there. I just dont think the only reason is because theyre middle eastern. Reporter for Good Morning America, Clayton Sandell, abc news, denver. And joining us now, abcs chief legal analyst dan abrams. This is such a horrible story. You can understand the position of the family wondering why this neighbor was out in the first place. Oh, absolutely. Im often on this program defending judges who release people on bond or bail, saying it isnt intended to punish but it is intended to protect meaning, if there is someone a threat to society or to their neighbors, thats the classic case where you dont release the person on bail or bond. And thats why this family has every right to look back and be furious. And we hear in the report, dan, it seems like they did everything they were supposed to do. Everything right. And the police were there but they left. The fact the police were there minutes before is certainly going to lead them to have to answer some questions. Doesnt necessarily mean they did anything wrong but theyre going to have to answer questions as to how is it they called the police right before this happened, i mean this family repeatedly calls the police, repeatedly brings Law Enforcement in, repeatedly asks and gets restraining orders against this guy. Their position at this point is what else could we have possibly done here . So what could be the possible defense . I expect that he, believe it or not, will claim some sort of selfdefense. This guy, the defendant now, also had asked for a restraining order against the victim. Do we know why . Yes, there were claims of he came over to his house and damaged property and this and that, so i would expect there will be some sort of selfdefense claim. Its not going to be easy. Its not a whodunit. Its clear he did it. The question is why. Selfdefense is not going to be easy considering the totality of these experiences. Thank you for your insight. Dan, thank you. Coming up here on the big board Hillary Clinton, donald trump preparing for a major showdown on the debate stage. How theyre getting ready for their faceoff and what were expecting. Were going to have you doing some exercises in our last half hour. That will be exciting. Ill be sweating. But we are going to start with the highly anticipated first debate between Hillary Clinton and donald trump. With the september 26 showdown fast approaching lots of speculation about how the candidates are preparing. Jon karl is joining us, so, jon, lets start with donald trump. How is he prepping for the first debate . Well, you know, the big news that came out was the meeting that trump had with roger ailes, the former fox news chairman and one of the most experienced and skilled professional political debate preparers in the history of president ial politics. The Campaign Says he is not really an adviser, robin. Its not an informal or a formal role but they acknowledged they had a long conversation at one of trumps golf courses. And you may remember this, but back in 1988, im sorry, 1984 when Ronald Reagan was pressed about his age and he said he would not exploit the youth and inexperience experience of walter mondale. It was roger ailes that was credited with coming up with that line, one of the most memorable ever. Jon, tell us this, whose job is it going to be to stand in that room with Hillary Clinton and throw at her all the possibilities that could come her way from donald trump and really does it come down to how she reacts that could make or break her in that first debate . God, would you want that job . Can you imagine . Your job is explicitly to get under Hillary Clintons skin. The campaign wont say, my guess is that it would be bob barnett who has played he played Bernie Sanders during the primary debate prep and hes worked with Hillary Clinton for a long time and hes done this stuff for many, many, many years. But that is one tough job, david, because you have to throw out all of the stuff the campaign expects, fully expects that trump will throw everything at her including all of the stuff about her personal life, bill clintons affairs. It wont be an easy job. All right, jon karl. Huge numbers for that. Theyre talking about olympic size numbers, super bowl numbers of viewers watching. Yeah. Now to a stunning moment caught on camera serving as a warning to all homeowners. Look at this. This had been an open house, an open house where folks can come right in. Its houston, texas, the Real Estate Agent steps away and the woman appears to steal a bottle of Prescription Medication and Egypt Sherrod joins us this morning. Great to have you. Listen, weve all had an open house at some point. Its not something you think about but opening your doors up to strangers. Good morning, first and foremost. But what i will say is this is not the norm. However, over the years i have heard of several occurrences that would just shock you. Anything from a realtor showing the house to other buyers and then they wander in the kitchen and notice that other wouldbe buyers are eating food out of the homeowners cabinet and refrigerator. Oh, come on. Or, you know, three people distract the realtor while one walks around the house casing the joint. It happens. Oh, so what can people do to prevent this from happening, egypt . What i would say is just be smart. Number one, hide your valuables, any expensive jewelry, electronics, laptops, lock it up, so that it doesnt develop legs all of a sudden and walk away and then conceal your personal information. Many times people will think they locked everything away but theyve left their mail or Social Security cards out. It is common that people will snatch your information and, therefore, steal your identity. Another thing is ask your realtor to require a signin sheet when people come in your house and ask for i. D. S. If someone is there for the wrong reason they could sign the wrong name but, if you ask for an i. D. , chances are it will ward them off. Ooh, thats some good advice right there. Thank you. If you are the type of person that leaves a spare key near the garage, hanging on the wall, hide those. Chances are someone, if theyre there to case the joint or come back and steal something, theyll snatch those keys and walk right out and lastly, when you return home, this is a big one, make sure you check all of your doors to make sure theyre locked as well as your windows. It has happened where someones walked right by, unlocked a window and came back later to basically rob the place. Thank you. This is all really good. Well never have an open house again. No. It is a great, great tip. Good luck finding anything in my refrigerator that you want to eat. Now to a fierce debate about sportsmanship at the olympics. Shaunae millers dramatic dive for gold. In the womens 400 meters. Its legal. Its legal but it sparked backlash as you know on social media. But this isnt the first time Something Like this has happened and we talked about this yesterday, dominique. You said when it comes to the olympics by any means necessary but people are saying, really. Yes, really. Really, people have to put things in perspective. I did the calculations. From my first Olympic Games to my second Olympic Games i was training 7,280 hours in the gym as a kid from my first to second Olympic Games, 1992 barcelona, 1996 Olympic Games. Early this morning, she and april ross lost their semifinal to brazil. This is the first time Walsh Jennings has ever lost in the olympics. She and ross will play for bronze, however. Meanwhile, simone biles is now the fourth woman to win four golds in gymnastics in one olympics and won the floor exercise competition to pick up her fifth medal in rio. U. S. Womens Basketball Team is in tomorrows semis after a squeaker against japan. They won by 46 and the japanese women were incredibly upset about it as they posed for pictures with the americans after the game. In the medal race the u. S. Increased its total to 84, tops among any nation, the americans also leading the games with 28 gold medals. With the news out of the olympics well do it pop style. She also said, guys, you can call me mrs. Ephron, really . Really . I love zac but slow down, simone, slow down. Also, while the u. S. Is leading the medal count in rio maybe the university of georgia should think of forming a country of its own, considering the fact its alum have racked up ten medals total in rio. That means if bulldog attended as an individual country it would tie for 15th place in the medal count. Also impressive married couple and cycling superstars jason kenny and laura trott from Great Britain have ten gold medals between them, five from rio alone. Thats an impressive duo. Finally here, we now know who really started that loveforgabbyusa in support of gymnast Gabby Douglas, who has been trold publicly online. Pretty nasty stuff on social media but ghostbusters star turned rio correspondent leslie jones calling on her followers to show their support for the gymnast on twitter by creating the hashtag and grabbed the attention of fellow celebs including Shonda Rhimes who tweeted my 3yearold announced her name is now Gabby Douglas rhimes. The love didnt go unnoticed by the Gold Medalist saying, my heart is full. It never fails, when we see something nasty and all that trolling, everybody comes back strong and supports that person that sometimes gets picked on. Yeah, and im glad to see leslie back out there. She took a real beating and she took down some of her social media accounts and said thats it but then she started tweeting about the olympics and over there now and just so glad shes back out in front. But first, Khloe Kardashian is opening up about her skin cancer scare. The reality star revealing doctors found and removed a cancerous mole on her back and this morning she has a message for her fans. Abcs linsey davis has more. Reporter the kardashians are known for sharing the most personal parts of their lives on reality tv. Now, Khloe Kardashian is opening up on her website about a skin cancer scare. This is the first time shes really getting into detail about what its like and her really real scare with skin cancer. Reporter the 32yearold says several years ago after having a few moles checked out doctors found a cancerous mole on her back. There was one mole i had on my back that was skin cancer, she says, i had eight inches of skin removed. It was definitely painful because it was a lot of skin but most of the time the removals havent been that bad. Khloe kardashian decided to share this story in the hopes that it would make people go and speak to their own doctor if they see anything irregular on their skin. Reporter the keeping up with the kardashians star shares this chart to help others identify irregular moles saying i wanted to share my experience with you so that if you know something doesnt look right, you will take action and take care of your health. Now that ive gone through this a couple of times im extra aware of my skin, body and moles. For Good Morning America, linsey davis, abc news, new york. Our thanks to linsey. Joining us now is dermatologist dr. Rosemarie ingleton, always good to have you here. Good morning. Good morning to you. A lot of people are talking about this and khloe is being very up front about it and she said about all the moles that she had, does that mean if you have a lot of moles youre more susceptible to this . Thats one of the risk factors. The more you have the more chance you have. Slightly weird moles or increased risk for getting melanoma. Because there are different types. I know a lot of people are probably looking at their morales that they have, how do you determine if something is up . Okay, so we have a lot of moles and usually when theyre normal they are round. Even colored, no irregularities of the edges, not changing. Regardless of your stage in life, so, if you see something thats different from that or suddenly a mole that used to be round and even colored is suddenly irregular and lost an area of color, it looks white on an edge or its getting bigger, youre not gaining weight or changing but the mole is changing. You need to have it looked at. And that is something you look at. At the office when doing a full skin exam we have a dermatoscope that allows us to look really closely at a mole when we think it may be a little off but were not sure we look up close and there are details that it will show us that will tell us that maybe this is one of those that you need to biopsy to make sure theres nothing wrong with it. How often . We should know our skin and know our body and our skin too, as well. How many times should we how often should we go and have a full checkup . I tell my patients be familiar with your body. Look every month in the mirror. Get naked. Look at everything front, back, so that if something shows up youll be the first one to know and professionally you should have your full body exam once annually. If youve had skin cancer, much more frequently, maybe every three to six months. Regular public, once a year in your birthday suit on your birthday. Your birthday suit on your birthday. Thats a good idea. You can see if some of the moles are changing like that. Just give us we can never hear this too much. How we can prevent this from happening . Oh, you need to wear sunscreen. You need year round . Year round, make it a habit. Your face, neck, the areas exposed. In the summer the rest of your body, get a body lotion or something that has spf in it so youll do it every day. Avoid midday sun sitting out there baking. Wear hats. Use awnings, umbrellas, they all help. You cant hear this often enough, and it doesnt matter your skin tone. It does not matter. Melanoma is the least common of the skin cancers but its affecting people of color. Very small percentage but it does affect us. Basal cell and squamous cells are the ones that are more common. Melanoma the worst but deadly. Save lives. Thats what youre doing. Always good to see you. Thank you very much. Coming up, the olympian diving for gold in a photo finish making a lot of headlines. There she is, Shaunae Miller is going to join us and talk to t. J. Come on back. The edge of glory you do all this research on a perfect car, then smash it into a tree. And houses, offices, and a whole neighborhood. Turns out, you can do anything with crayons im on the edge of glory we all saw it back with an abc news exclusive, this is the dive seen around the world, Shaunae Miller throwing herself across the finish line head first to claim first. And that move sparking a bit of a debate, you can say, but also landing shaunae a gold medal and t. J. Is with her now there in rio. Good morning again. Yes, hello again, here she is, does it pain you to see that video even . No, no, it really doesnt. Because you got a gold medal. Yeah. So its all good. Settle this for us right now. Was that dive intentional or not . It really wasnt. It really wasnt. Let me break the entire thing down. Before going into the race knowing my coaches we sat down and we discussed everything, what we were going to do and, you know i feel as though i executed the plan really well. When i got because i got to 300 first then when i got it comes up. When i got about 40 more meters to go my legs were so heavy from going around so fast then, you know, i started to lose feelings in them and when i was heading towards the line, i saw it was the line, i was like, oh, my gosh, ive got to go and afterwards i felt nothing at all in my legs and i started falling and i was like you telling me you accidentally collapsed your way into the gold medal. I hey, if thats what they want to call it, thats what happened. You know, i just went really hard and just tried to hold on for dear life. What do you think . If the dive didnt take place do you think you would have won in stride . Do you still think you would have won the race . I cant say. It was a really close race but sometimes the diving can help. Sometimes it doesnt. I dont know how it would have played out but it played out in my fay very favor. Have you ever done that before . No. Ive never actually i have fell you fell. You didnt dive. Are you the clumsiest track star . I did and ended up flying and so many bruises and almost like a replay again. But never an intentional dive but we see runners do this plenty. Did you ever think it wasnt in the spirit of the sport like some are suggesting. Well, you know, sometimes it is like that. But, you know, its a part of the sport. Its legal in the sport so, you know, people go for it. Are you disappointed by the controversy and even surprised by it, as well. I was really surprised by it but i dont let things affect me. I was reading them. I got a few laughs and saw all the memes. Some people calling you a cheater. I saw that but, you know, its like i said its a part of the sport. Its been done so many times in the sport. You know, things happen. Its track and field. But you got a gold medal now. Yes. However it came about. Congratulations there, didnt take away from the celebration. No, it didnt. Its an absolute pleasure, congratulations to you, guys, shes got the gold medal. People can think what they want about it, but its legal, its fair. I cant believe you called her clumsy. She has the gold medal. Youre calling her clumsy. Shes the one that said shes falling all the time. Im glad we heard that. It didnt look like it was intentional. It didnt look like she meant to do that but shes got the gold. And she has a good attitude. Youre clumsy when you have that heavy gold medal on. Lets head out to ginger. Calling an olympian clumsy. Married 35 years. Were celebrating out here. I wanted to get it started with not celebrating, though, in austin, texas, up to 11 inches of rain falling in that region. So, its not just louisiana dealing with that flash flooding, but they certainly still have those Flood Warning happen hump day, i am meteorologist mike nicco, with the high lights, sunny at noon but the coast, clouds and drizzle are more likely the next several nights bringing in a video cooling trend and today 60s at the cost and san francisco, and 70s around the bay and 80s in the in vitro bay and south bay and look at the midtoupper 90s inland, tonight, it will cool off nicely back in the 50s with cloud cover more likely and my sevenday outlook, gradual cooling all the way through monday. It is workout wednesday and our Gold Medalist moms and our trainers are helping us get in shape. And is it the cruelest rule in sports . One false start and youre out of the olympics. Athletes facing that reality straight ahead. Now, from abc 7 news. Good morning to you. We are tracking developing news right now out of southern california. The wild fire has blown up to 30,000 acres. Its forced 82,000 people out of their homes. The fire is burning through heavy brush right now in San Bernardino county. A red flag condition is in effect until 9 00 tonight. And that means hot, dry, breezy conditions there. Lets get an update on your morning commute here with alexis smith. Unfortunately, we do have a new sig alert. This is a problem i told you about a couple hours ago. This is in sunnyvale. Northbound 35 started out as a pothole. Now it sounds like its a big break in the road there, and the two right lanes are blocked. Theyre hoping to have those repairs done and those lanes back open between 2 00 and 5 00 tonight. They may have to do more repairs tomorrow, so this will be a big headache. Were back up on the roof, where im already seeing a few breaks in the cloud cover. I think well have faster sunshine today. But most of us still in the 50s and 60s. A quick look at your planner for today. Our hottest day of the week. My accuweather sevenday forecast, a slow cooling trend all the way through the weekend. Thank you so much. Were going to have another update in about 30 minutes and you can join us weekdays, 4 30 workout wednesday is under way olympics edition this time. We have our Gold Medalist moms. The trainer there leading the charge. Theyre ready to go. Their legs have to be tired. You can join in on our Facebook Page. Moves for your arms and legs. I love hearing from people they watch us on the treadmill when theyre working out so envious. Ahead in the day for us. It is. One of the toughest rules in rio, the false start policy. One quick move and you could be out of the Olympic Games for good. T. J. Is taking a closer look at the athletes jumping the gun and saying goodbye to the gold. So harsh after years of training. Yeah, years and really were talking about a lifetime of training for some of these athletes. You get ready, you finally have the olympic moment. Youre getting to the starting blocks and you scratch your nose and all of a sudden your Olympic Dreams are over. Come on, folks. This rule, we know that just aint right. Did you see that . Look again as 21yearold wilhelm belocian, frenchman, jumps the gun in monday nights 110 hurdles race. In just milliseconds his Olympic Dreams are shattered. He is out of the Olympic Games. Thats got to be an awful feeling. Reporter hes not alone. On sunday a potential finalist in the 100meter dash against usain bolt also was knocked out after a false start. And, yes, the fastest man on the planet hes not even immune. Usain bolt disqualified after this false start at the 2011 world track and field championships. I believe usain bolt false started. Reporter call it the one and done rule that took effect in 2010 to keep relatively slower runners from intentionally jumping the gun to throw off the competition. Before that they were at least given a warning. Its a rule long known to swimming. This spanish swimmer headed to the locker room last week but in a twist of humanity the ref gave him a second chance. That was not the case for this double disqualification in sydney in 2000. Leaving just one man in the pool to swim the race all by himself. Ive never seen anything like this at the Olympic Games before. What do you do . Its a rule now, guys and, you know, i just talked to Shaunae Miller a second ago. Shes still sitting here with me and asked her about it. You sprinters, you like this rule . She gave me a death stare like are you crazy . She still is. They have to do it within the rules. I bet she did. Shes still giving you i look like really. Lets bring in Jessica Mendoza back with us and played softball on two olympic teams. You agree with it. Absolutely not. I think the biggest reason, one of the reasons they gave when they first started in 2010 actually was for television an the fact that because of a lot of the false starts it was lengthening the amount of time and to me i think you think about usain bolt as we saw disqualified in 2011 at the world championships, that to me is just not the reason why this rule was first set in place and i just i dont like when you think about an athlete trained for four years and one moment or longer than that. T. J. Brings up a good point, though. They say part of the rule is what it does to the other athletes at the starting line, but you firmly believe they should not be disqualified. Well, one of the reasons youre disqualified in the Olympic Games and as an olympic athlete its because youre cheating. You know, thats the whole idea so whether youre doping, positive drug test and when you think about this, if youre a fraction of a second late you lose so you have to push that envelope but its not cheating. Its just you competing and now youre done. So theres probably changes they can make and modify it probably. It starts with the athletes. As much as media and we can talk about how much we dont like it, i know as an athlete you have to band together, talk to your federations and make it an issue. Thats where the Olympic Games and why they create these rules and if they want it reversed it has to begin with athletes who get disqualified. I love when they left softball in. 2020. Ill put back on my shoes. Because its workout wednesday, right . Yes, yes. Yeah. Im going to be talking about it. But ginger is already there outside. Ginger. I am out here.
