Did people on the other side of that method feel respected cared for that they feel like their project or maybe you had someone give you the gospel income some kind of a written or pictured form you know the 4 Spiritual Laws of the Romans wrote of the wordless book how do you respond to those and how do you respond to what we're going to talk about here today our guests 3 circles to find out more about that straight ahead before we meet our guest I want to invite you to read a little book that in many ways changed my life when I was younger when I was on the college campus and the ministry we had I carried around what we called a gospel box it was a literal big box and I had paperback Bibles in there and I had books and handouts and booklets and one of those was called my heart Christ's home an allegory about a man who allows Jesus to come inside of his house and what Jesus does once he gets inside it's a powerful short story and there been a lot of versions of this through the years we have a small hardback version if you've never read it or maybe it's been a while you want to share it with your kids or somebody else and then you'll encourage you if you become a back fence friend which means you give a gift of any size to Chris Faber live will send you this my heart Christ's home as a thank you 186695 Faber e. Or you can go to Chris Faber a Live dot org And thanks for being a back fence friend. All right I said yes to our guest today simply because his name is Jimmy Scroggins I told him before we went on the air I'm from West Virginia we had Bud and Bill and and and my uncle pooch and so anybody who's named Jimmy Jimmy fits in there but then the last name you get Scroggins in and if you're not carrying a mandolin around with you. You had Lester Flatt an Earl Scruggs I mean you're behind so Jimi Scruggs you got to have Pastor Jimi Scroggins on today he is a husband father pastor teacher and coach his wife Kristen have 8 children there's another reason to have him on the program you can find out more about him at Chris Faber a Live dot org We have all of his information there as well as our featured resource which is turning everyday conversations into gospel conversations pastor Scroggins welcome the program you got your you got your banjo with you today and you have read it so hopefully we won't have any I won't be called upon to play any music that's really not. I am I'm really enamelled with what you've put together here and I said yes to this because I want our listeners to hear the setup to all of this about how we live in a broken world but back up from that how many ways did you hear the Gospel explain when you were younger you know when I was a kid I was actually raised in the church christened so I was taught this year the ground sperm you know I've used the word list but I've used the 1st pitch a lot as the Romans remarked in my Bible I was taught a banjo as an explosion when I became an adult we had this tour we called state at i t h that we used to explain the Gospel and so I was trained in a lot of different ways to share Christ with people that I knew. And did any of those really click with you or did they all clik. We don't I think they all were helpful because different different contexts and different types of conversations sometimes call for different kinds of tools and so I was fortunate enough to be able to assemble a you know what I kind of thought of as my Vangelis them to a box and depending on the job that I was going to do I'd get out a tool that I thought would fit the difficulty with those tools Chris is that they were quite a lot of Bible knowledge they required a lot of theological awareness and a lot of scripture memory some of them actually had you know kind of flow charts where they say this and you say that if they ask you respond with that and also has a pretty sophisticated presentation and set of presentations that required almost like a green beret type of Christian that's a master. Yeah and when I look at the New Testament specifically Philip and the Aethiopica in Ethiopian eunuch there is that the unique is you know he's looking at something in the Old Testament that he can understand and here comes Philip with an idea of you know this is how this all fits together but in our culture today you don't have that same opportunity right. Well that's how that's what I've kind of discovered you know I grew up in the bible belt so I went to a lot of churches where we were located in communities that were very favorable to Christianity and so you know things like that we were able to do in the public schools as Christians we had a lot of freedom and a lot of access and when I moved to South Florida in 2008 things really changed because I came to a place that's really not the Bible Belt and so it's more of a more of a post Christian kind of an environment and solid began to rub shoulders with people who were a lot just a lot higher numbers of what I would call it that from God People that I've ever been around before and these people didn't know any Bible stories they didn't know any Bible background they had no sense of embarrassment or shame about certain things that they were incorporating into their lifestyles that were you know maybe contrary to my Christian beliefs but they didn't know they didn't they didn't have a sense of awareness that anybody would question you know really things they believe things they say things they do and so I came down to realize if I'm going to share Christ with these people on a large scale on a train others to do it we're going to have to find some ways to share the gospel that don't require the same amount of background knowledge and so that's really how we came up with this tool and we're talking about that let me let me get the groundwork in here though and that is what is what what is the gospel really and what are the elements that we have to have in our presentation some of those that you just mentioned a little bit ago I see several things that you know a thread that runs through there and that is our sin that we are at. We're tarnished by sin at the very best totally depraved or very worst and God is holy and there is some we have to have some bridge between God and man to get us back into relationship with God Those those are fundamental to all of those right. I don't think there's any question I mean the word gospel the good news really refers to the story of Jesus that he's the son of God that He came to Earth lived a perfect sinless life that he loved people cared for them but when he was 33 years old people that he loved and cared for took him outside the city of Jerusalem and crucified him when he was being crucified on the cross for since God did Americal taking our sins and putting them on Jesus and Jesus died to pay the penalty for the sins of the world and then he was buried raised from the dead and so the Gospel story is that Jesus was crucified on the cross for us and he was buried God raised Him from the dead and now he invites all people everywhere to repent of their sense and to believe and him and trust Him for their salvation that's a great it's a great story and a great thing to be able to share with people but the hard part is how do we get from an everyday conversation. That story and that's a difficulty Ok so there's the problem there's the good news God God wants people to come into a right relationship with him but sends the problem but how do you do that at work how do you do that if you're is sit next to somebody else on a plane for 3 hours and and don't do it in a manipulative way I think that's what a lot of people feel like it's like you're going to you going to try to manipulate this into something and I think these 3 circles are really going to help some folks Jimmy Scroggins pastor Scroggins is with us today he's written along with Steve Wright turning every day conversations into gospel conversations you'll hear more about that straight ahead here on the race. Had a comment about the program today 877675 that's 87. 670. If it's true that God's works living in how do you put it to work right now. It's up to you to listen up. Everything that I have everything that I am all that I hope for it's all God's If you decide to go on a vacation you should go on a vacation because you believe that God will be honored in the outcome of the rest in your life. Decision. On that perfectly but I can tell you this I believe everything good for you financially flows from this 1st initial decision I'm going to look at money vertically. A ministry that's. Cashing in the people of God through the proclamation of truth. On the radio this is where I'm a car guy here to help you understand God's purpose for your life through the eyes of a layman it might surprise you to know that our relationship with God start with fear which really means in all respect for the limitless power of Almighty God. The beginning of wisdom you know there's nothing like fear even the. Came into his presence. Changes were cognizant of his awesome presence but it goes deeper than that. The Lord confides in those who fear Him which means our relationship with God becomes an intimate relationship when we live our lives in all in compliance with this instructions according to his purpose another room. Today closer to Jesus if you want to easy that is go to. Dot com. In a friend you have a family member you have somebody you care about and you really want to share this truth that's come from your heart about who God is who Jesus is how we can have new life in him what the Gospel really is and you want to have that kind of conversation but you don't know how to go about it and every time you do fumble and you kind of trip over yourself and you began to wonder can I ever really share this I'll leave it to somebody else that a pastor Jimmy Scroggins says no don't do that there's a way to turn your everyday conversation into a gospel conversation we have a featured resource a crisp a real live dot org You can find it right there and that's the title of it turning everyday conversations into gospel conversations go to Chris Faber Live dot org We'll take your calls here in a minute 877-548-3675 how far around the country and even outside the country has this concept gone Jimi Well you know it's it's really been amazing this kind of gone viral Chris because this is a really a product that you purchase and it's not something that's trademarked or copyrighted this is an open source tool and because of that people have literally taking it all over the world so I get pictures of people people text pictures or they post them on Twitter with the hash tag 3 circles and there are people from Africa other people drawing it in the dirt and refugee camps and ask other people sharing it in Arabic there are people sharing it in Burma other people share in it in Europe and I mean really literally all over the world it's been a nominal. Kind of the way that this tool has taken off in terms of capturing people's imagination and I think the reason it has done that is because we're not trying to be too prescriptive we're giving people a template or an idea of how to take an everyday conversation. And turn it into a gospel conversation about saying this is what you must say and I give them some freedom to incorporate their own ideas and experiences exactly I've always thought about the Gospel communicated is just a person telling in the New Testament is this way just somebody telling what Jesus has done in their lives but you are able to go a little bit further with that So what are the 3 circles and just walk us into this yes sure so if I was going to explain this to someone I always start Chris when someone asked me a question or and shared with me a challenge or a difficulty or kind of a problem that they're dealing with for instance somebody might come up to me or even standing on my don't even know my name and say Wow it's really hard being a parent as an it like that be a normal comment somebody would make that might or might not even know me and I could say look you know I actually have kids and it is it is hard being a parent but I've learned something that's helped me to think about those challenges in a better way and I love to share that with you and if they give me permission to do so then I simply begin to share them I say look I've come to believe that God has a design for my life and if I have an opportunity to draw draw the 1st circle and inside the circle I'd write God's design I believe that I've come to believe that God has a design for my life but he loves me cares about me that he made me and he cares about every aspect of my life and clearing my parenting and my kids and then I take it then I draw an arrow from that circle kind of pointing to the right and say the problem is inside of me I have these desires to do things my own way and so I often depart from God's design thinking I'm going to get where I want to go faster better I'm going to be more satisfied have more fun and when I depart from Gaza Zion the Bible calls that sin and so I label that arrow sin 2nd circle as the circle of brokenness and I say every time I depart from Gaza not always end up in the same place it's brokenness brokenness is what we feel like when we feel. Cheated when we feel empty when we feel used when we feel ashamed we are filled with regret. And so brokenness we all know what that feels like when we're in this 2nd circle of brokenness we often try to alleviate our brokenness by if we're in a broken relationship we leave that relationship and go to another relationship maybe we drink too much maybe we try to make more money or maybe we try to white knuckle it reach down deep inside of ourselves and just be a better person but we find out as none of those none of those actions really have any lasting permanent a fact we always end up right back in brokenness where we started. Brokenness feels bad but it actually has something good about it because when we're broken inside it reminds us that we need to change it tells us that something in our lives need to change and because we've already tried to fix the broken us ourselves in these various ways we realize that if we're going to fix our own brokenness we've done that a long time ago the kind of change that we need doesn't come from inside of us it actually comes from somewhere else that's when I draw a 3rd circle and inside the 3rd circle I write the word gospel and I say look the word gospel simply means good news and this is the good news that God actually sent His Son Jesus. To be on Earth as a man he said in 2000 years ago he lived a perfect right he never departed from Gaza design and yet one day when he was an adult people that he loved crucified Him God allowed him to be buried God raised Him from the dead and then Jesus invites everyone who wants to. Change to experience the kind of change they've been looking for and that's why draw an arrow from the 2nd circle of brokenness to the 3rd circle which says the gospel and I say the kind of change we were looking for is the kind of change the Bible describes what the world repentance I want to repent and we have to believe the story of Jesus the Gospels are right the world believe and once we believe the story of Jesus put our trust in his death Russians and his resurrection from the dead we have bought him into our lives then I draw a line from the circle of the gospel back to the circle God's design and I write the words Rick recover and pursue next to that arrow we have to recover and pursue God's design for our lives and got allows us to do that from wherever we are and this is a simple way of explaining the Gospel Yes All right so at the end on role play with you and find out then what happens after that but let's go back here to some of the older models and it was we are all sinned and we fallen short which is true for the Romans road and there's this chasm between us and God It sounds to me like what you've done then is you've brought this to a more felt need in in this culture there are many people who will say you know sin is just a construct of religion to hold me down or sin you know you're what you think is sin I don't think is sin and so instead of a you do an end around around that and you do you label it broken as to get to the middle of the heart of the felt need that the person is going through that we all have broken the scenario lives and we're all struggling in some way is that fair yeah back Chris that is the actual To me that is the key to the whole presentation is that people who are experiencing brokenness and the truth is everybody is experiencing brokenness right because that is the result of sin the sin our own sent. Choices but also the simple choices that other people have made against us and then plus add to that the General Fallon ness of the world so our theology tells us that people are living and experiencing brokenness and that's true cross culturally as choose to despite where you land on the socio economic ladder despised where you land on education a lot of Everybody knows what this feels like so when I'm talking to someone I don't have to wonder do they know what brokenness feels like theologically because the Bible tells me I know that they feel I know a brokenness feels like so even if they don't have a category or don't agree with my theological category of sin or God's design or a 1000000 believe in God They do know what brokenness feels like and so this part of the conversation tends to really resonate. So sin is the problem for all of us and one of the symptoms is this brokenness So you go toward that that everybody feels rather than start an argument about the theological concept of sin yet what I try to do in advance as I'm Chris is I try not to argue so what I want to do is present and I want to share so even the way that I get into the presentation somebody shares of their problem that they're experiencing my transition statement as hey look I've experienced something
