Earlier this afternoon a smaller debate was held. Dave Courvoisier former new york governor george pataki. Former arkansas governor mike huckabee. Former pennsylvania senator rick santorum. And South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham took part in that debate. Since they were among the lowest polling candidates. Denise Valdez on the stage right now are these nine candidates. Including front runner donald trump. Flanked on either side by ted cruz and ben carson. The top three polling candidates. We have Live Team Coverage from the venetian tonight. With review journana columnist steve sebelius. But first we start with Patrick Walker. Patrick Walker dave and denise. The candidates are 30 minutes into the debate. Talking National Security and foreign affairs. Considering the recent attacks in paris and san bernardino. Donald trump. A very polarizing figure. Seems to have capitalized. Seeing some of his highest polling numbers yet. Hes averaged around 40 percent in the last two polls. Ted cruz has surged into second place. As ben carson has fallen closer to the middle of the pack. Cnn anchor jake tapper says thats what makes tonights debate interesting. And Nevada Senate democratic minority leader aaron ford says the event is important. But hes surprised at don trumps rise to the top of the polls. 2 55 yes it is surprising to me i think its surprising to most people i would not have anticipated three or four months ago that he would be where he is today and im quite surprised. Im quite surprising to make fun of a womans face and in the polls, im quite surprised that you can make fun of a race, rise and rise in class, im quite surprising you can make fun of the pow a former former colleague of my colleague of mine is United States senate and still rise in the polls, unsurprisingly make fun of those with disabilities and still rise in the polls this is not an american that most americans are used to and frankly i think at the end of the day, all that changes. Dave Courvoisier senator heller gave his support to governor jeb bush a couple of months ago, and thinks the campaign will get a lot more serious in the new year. I said brenda, what did you do . the many questions neighbors now have after the deadly stand off with police. Plus the cold temperatures are going to drop even lower tonight tedd . Denise Valdez we now know the name of the armed and Police Monday night. She is 48year old Brenda Kimberling. Investigators say kimberling was holed up in her Northeast Valley home. Often making threats toward police and herself. Eventually swat officers killed her. 8 news now reporter karen castro spoke to neighbors who are still in disbelief. karen castro boarded up doors and a broken gate is all thats left after an armed suicidal woman was shot and killed by metro swat monday night. Neighbors say it is out of character for Brenda Kimberling to make threats towards police or herself. timika neighbor i was very surprised cause i would of never thought in a million years that that would happen. Karen Castro Timika lives next door to the 48yearold woman and saw the standoff with police from her window after officers told her to stay inside. timika neighbor we didnt know we didnt know what was going on and the police was all behind cars with their guns. Karen Castro Timika says she knew kimberling in passing and spoke to her a number of times. But she says one day the two got into an argument over another neighbors dog. Timika says she didnt take it seriously because she believed her neighbor was depressed. Just a loner, i really think she just needed somebody to talk to. karen castro other neighbors describe kimberling as a kind woman who fed feral cats and decorated her home for every holiday. nina ondo neighbor two days ago i saw fixing all the christmas decorations. Karen Castro Nina Ondo says kimberling was also part of the Neighborhood Watch and her husband is a truck driver who is gone for weeks at a time. nina ondo neighbor maybe shes depressed and lonely. karen castro monday morning, metro police say they received two phone calls about a suicidal woman. Metro says they were told kimberling was trying to overdose on prescription drugs and had a gun. After an hours long standoff with officers, police say they were forced to shoot. timika neighbor its just a sad experience, its really sad. Karen Castro Karen castro, 8 news now. Denise Valdez at this time metro is not calling the Police Shooting suicide by cop. Investigators are expected to release more information about what happened later this week. To make sure your photo, music, scam is hitting the valley pretty hard right now. Just last month, our consumer advocate Michelle Mortensen warned us about ransom ware. But it looks like the scammers using this tactic. Are getting more aggressive. Denise Valdez and its costing people a lot. So shes here with another warning. To keep you from losing all your files. Michelle Mortensen ransomware is nasty, nasty, nasty. I hate it. And if it happens to you. I hate to say it. But the repercussions can be critical. Thats why you need to back up everything on your computer constantly hard copies and in a cloud. Its something leah miller wishes she had done. Youll start doing it today. < Michelle Mortensen leah miller couldnt believe it when her entire computer froze. leah miller whoever hacked my computer had full access. Michelle Mortensen hackers locked all her files. She then received a pop up ransom note like this one demanding payment to free her computer. It even came with a countdown clock leah it said pay this ransom before this countdown ends or youre going to lose all these files forever. Michelle Mortensen the pop up miller received is called cryptolocker but the scam is global and the ransom notes come in different forms. Cyber security expert Scott Schober says the ransom demands range from 200 to 1000 dollars. And the criminals often want to be paid in the untraceable online currency bitcoin. Scott Schober Berkeley Varitronics systems its very hard to catch the hackers. Michelle Mortensen its not just personal computers businesses, School Districts, Even Police Departments have been hit with the uncrackable code. Police in swansea, free. leah its scary. Michelle Mortensen miller refused to pay the 800 dollar ransom and lost all of her files. A technician wiped her computer clean so she could start over. leah i lost a lot of data and a sense of security. Michelle Mortensen shes taken measures to protect herself experts say its important to update Anti Virus Software and back up all your data. But she worries the hackers could return. leah it happened out of nowhere, and i dont know if and when it will happen again. Michelle Mortensen and heres the scary thing. It could happen again. Theres no rhyme or reason as to why your computer could be hit with one of these pop ups. It just happens. And get this. The Cyber Threat Alliance says more than 325 Million Dollars has been paid out so far. I think the big take away is this though if you back up everything. This ransom. Really means nothing. You just wipe your computer and and i wouldnt ever pay that ransom either. In most cases. You pay up. And get nothing in return. I mean. Can you really trust a scammer. Winds are still blowing a little from the north and cold little from the north and cold air coming in from the north still. Current temps outside already in the high 40s and cold through the valley right now with colder temps up in kyle canyon. High 40s in the east to colder over to the foothills and the west part of town. Regional temps also cold at this hour from mesquite all the way down to laughlin with coldest temps up in the central part of the state from tonopah all teh way to pioche. Big dip in the jetstream from boise all the way to new mexico. Coldest sector within that dip in the jetstream keeping things cold from here to the upper midwest while the deep south stays mild in those 60s. So we have hard freeze warnings in these areas in the purple. Again these areas could see temp dipping down to 20 to 25 by early morning. Clearer weather outside but still seeing some of those north breezes sticking around. Clouds clearing even more overnight and that could actually make it feel colder with clearer skies. Were tracking that skies. Were tracking that low and it spinning snow in the nebraska and over to south dakota and even denver. Tonight expect a low of 31 degrees and cold. North breezes around will make our feels like temps in the morning feel more like 26 degrees. Tomorrow expect a high of 48 and staying chilly. Less wind tomorrow and well be nearly 10 degrees below average. Now here are your forecast lows overnight. 30s to 20s everywhere with the coldest temps in the edges of the valley and more away from the center. Aliante and summerlin along with Mountains Edge and anthem definitely below freezing. Colder outside of town in pahrump where we have that freeze warning and cold from laughlin all the way to mesquite. Extended forecast shows we finally warm up to near average by friday. Warmer weekend with breezes and next chances for showers could be by monday evening and Denise Valdez a custodian is facing multiple charges. For performing sex acts inside a local elementary school. According to an arrest report. Michael skelton was a custodian at Dondero Elementary School near jones and harmon. Police say a teacher tipped them off. And officers set up a camera in her classroom. They say they used the cameras to catch skelton in the act. This happened after school hours. And no one else was in the classroom at the time. Skelton is charged with poisoning food and open and gross lewdness. Dave Courvoisier hundreds of thousands of students in the Los Angeles Area were out of school today. After an online threat. That threat is now believed to be a hoax. An email was sent to multiple School Districts across the country. Los angeles was the only one that canceled classes for the targeted students and involved gun attacks and explosive devices. Dave Courvoisier the Clark County School district did not recieve the same threat. But they say theres a plan in place. If they have to respond to a similar situation. Ccsd has never had to suddenly close all 336 schools because of any threat. Captain ken young with ccsd police admits it would be a huge undertaking, but it would be possible. capt. Ken young ccsd police we have that ability to do that, it would be a very very large task. we would reach out to our local Law Enforcement partners to assist but it would be a very large task. Our schools occasionally get bomb threats, but rarely are schools closed, and so far, every single bomb threat has turned out to be a hoax.
