They said i wasnt going to get in the race, i wouldnt raise the money, i wouldnt make the debate, i wouldnt do well in New Hampshire. I was going to drop out, disappear and now were here. So i love being underestimated. I have all of my lifetime. Were in South Carolina. Were going to compete here, in parts of South Carolina but well be moving on, of course, to the rest of the country. You know, governor kasich, you said last night you managed to do as well as you did without going negative. Negative seems to be working for some of the candidates. Do you intend to continue that strategy . Well, look, if somebody pounds me, im not going to take a pounding. Im not a pin cushion or a marshmallow. Tired of the negativity. I think the ability to talk about what you want to do, the reason a lot of people go negative is because their positive doesnt work. I do love the beatings but the fact is, the Bush Campaign cant figure out what its for and a candidate cant seem to know what hes for. They spent all their time bashing somebody else. What did you discover from the town meetings that you had in New Hampshire . Well, charlie, one of the things i discovered is that a lot of people dont have anybody to listen to them. They dont have anybody to celebrate their victories and they dont have anybody that can sit down and cry with them. One of the things i learned in my own personal life is to slow down, look people in the eye. Give them a hug, listen to them. Thats important. But the other aspect, of course, and critically important. The other aspect is, nothing in the country will really be the way it ought to be if were not creating jobs. Ive been able to do is as chairman of the Budget Committee in washington and as governor of ohio. I have a plan i can implement in the first hundred days. So they its not theyve got every possible advantage in South Carolina. And that memo is right. Democrat has to do well with minority voters. But a democrat also has to do well with young voters, has to inspire those voters to turn out in the general election. So while she may have strength with voters of color, she does have those weaknesses we saw up here in New Hampshire. It was originally studied after the 1950s. We are learning about sexual transmission, and now were learning there may be more than microcephaly.
