Or. Paul's holiday choir will also perform Sunday afternoon at the 43rd annual winter arts fair which is starting this Saturday at 10 am at the material community center the 2 day event will feature handmade Artesian booths musical entertainment festive food and children's activities including a visit from Santa doors will open from 10 am to 6 pm this Saturday and Sunday admission will be free to kids under the age of 12 and adults over the age of $65.00 at the material community center at $59.00 rescue lane in Redway the humbled County Board of Supervisors will hold a special hearing regarding the Terra Gen wind project on December 16th However their written public comment period ends next Monday December 9th Lauren Schmidt reports. After 3 meetings of the Humboldt County Planning Commission regarding the controversial humbled wind energy project the proposal is headed to the Board of Supervisors on December 16th to appeal the Planning Commission's decision and make the final call on moving the project forward after commissioners rejected the project in an unexpected $4.00 to $1.00 vote in what's been described as a nail biting finale unlike regular supervisor meetings that take place and the Humboldt County Courthouse this special hearing on Monday December 16th will be held at a Dorney center this comes in response to pressure from the public to secure a larger venue However the written public comment period ends Monday December 9th the public will be given another opportunity to comment at the December 16th meeting earlier today I spoke with Adam Kantor the natural resource specialist with the tribe who has vocally opposed this project canter catches us up with the tribe and the terror in wind project in this interview. Currently something that we have tried has been facing as well as other concerned members of the community is the Karajan project and the Planning Commission recently denied it however the final vote will go to the Board of Supervisors and adds My understanding public comment and a Monday at noon. Written comments must be submitted. At noon Monday the night at the courthouse and still make public comment at that actual order supervisor's meeting on the 16th and 17th but if you want the supervisors to actually read your comments and be able to digest just them they need to be done by noon this coming Monday the 9th and a little tidbit there is you need to have one original copy and then 9 additional copies which is kind of a lot of paper but that's what's expected if you want them to actually get processed there's other developing news involving a labor contracts and Karajan if you want to talk about that. Yeah so we just got word that the central label Central Labor Council that Tara chin agreed to all terms that the labor movement has demanded from them for this project and said that the electrician and trade unions have changed their position and now report the terror Chian project and said Kerrigan agreed to the project labor agreements for all of their contracts in California so it's not just this project across the board a decision in the unions one out big Kerrigan is scared basically and they know that there's a real possibility that they will lose so they really had to dig deep into their pockets and said if this is kind of a big thing and you know we're meeting with labor union representatives today because they actually you know have the gall to to try to to ask us to reconsider our mission based on this change you know one thing that has to be considered you know while there will be jobs during the construction phase of this project which is anticipated 12 to 18 months you know that it's these are not sustainable jobs and there's only going to be 15 permanent jobs if the project is built our guard most of what the local union might think a lot of these jobs are going to be folks from out there you and on that note you know Terry Jen has been trying to persuade the county as well as the community that you know they are green company but also with that monetary incentive you're kind of mentioning you know now they're trying to bring in the labor unions but they've also mentioned that they'd be the biggest tax payer in Humboldt County So what do you say to people who are maybe swayed to go for this project based on monetary incentives. Well from what I've heard from from other representatives across the United States that are either on tiny commissions or supervisors that you know immensely regret ever backing when development projects that you know the tax benefits never really an out the way that the development corporations paint paint them so they're saying $2000000.00 a year if you take a population of Humboldt County and divided by $2000000.00 comes out to only $15.00 per person per year and so that's one way I like to look at it you know that's less than a parking ticket and much less than property taxes or anything like that and so I would say that the greater benefit is really protecting one of our most iconic cultural and biological hotspot that you know people come from all over the oral to see our redwoods to to drive on the Avenue of the Giants to go up to Bear River Bridge in the Raptor in the city that can only be seen in the Cape Mendocino grasslands important bird area that was established by Audubon and so that's what I would say to people that say oh well we should do this because of the financial incentives Well this is a financial incentives don't really play out in the long term you know this is a 30 year project that you know our younger generations are here and Humboldt County for much longer than that and have to deal with the environmental and cultural consequences of this kind of project thank you so much I don't know any other final remarks you'd like to make. There's going to be a rally next Saturday's her Ging folks to come out. From the y. Name either in Scotia and will be marching across that you'll river to Rio del and there's going to be speakers we encourage folks to have find and like I said that will be starting at noon at the y. Name or Saturday's summer 14th and so that will be off in a good artistic great line and you know it's a great opportunity to go to ground 0 you know and really you know if you if you don't get there good on Scotia often this is a great opportunity to come and see you know you know how how close the prison ridges are and how much of a of a part of the landscape of th
