Police are investigating a deadly shooting today just across the street from an elementary school. A man was shot. He crashed into a light pole outside of prescott elementary school. Police say they dont have a suspect or a motive for the shooting. This is oaklands 87th homicide of the year. The man killed in an avalanche in jacksonville, wisconsin was from the bay area. This is a photo of the man from facebook. His brother said in a written statement that he loved his family, his cal bears, his skiing buddies, and San Francisco. He was skiing with friends in an area called pucker face bull when he set off an avalanche at about 1 00 that buried him in the snow. A body found in the water in San Francisco has been identified. That body was seen floating near pier 48 last month. It is that of the missing 22yearold man. Police traced the call to the 500 block, but never found meadow. His sister filed a missing persons report. The body was difficult to identify. A navy veteran has turned up safe. He disappeared after he was discharged from San Francisco general on december 17th. Hes been a regular volunteer at Disaster Relief events. When he disappeared, the family mobilized their own search teams to find him in San Francisco. The father was thrilled to get that call. The detective on the line said, ive got some great news for you. We have located your son. Im driving on the freeway and that moment it just took a second for it to sink in. We need this inversion layer to go away and we need some wind to start collecting some of this particulate matter and bringing it out of the valley. The robbery happened around 1 30 last friday afternoon when the man grabbed a womans purse and took off. She pulled out a pot and beat him in the upper body. He managed to get away with her purse. Anyone with information call the police department. Could your information really be safe . New information tonight about the holiday hacking at target. It may be good news for you and your credit card. We have the latest. Little controversy about this. Reporter yeah, but for the most part it is good news. Target today saying it had technology in place to protect your credit card information. But hackers know all about that sort of protection and are likely working to get around it. Target says the information on your credit card is safe. Why . Because it is encrypted, which means it is in code. A code that is supposed to be cracked only by targets payment processor. Encryption can be broken over time. Reporter we spoke to a security expert that says dont be so sure. Its like the decoder ring that you had when you were a kid. What itll do is slow down the criminals. They have to decode that encryption. Reporter target is confident that your credit card numbers are safe and secure. Even as encryption gets more sophisticated, so do the criminals stealing your information. They still have the technology to decrypt them as well. The budget signed by president obama did not extend their benefits and longterm unemployment checks will stop coming as of tomorrow. President obama wanted to extend these benefits, but it didnt pass congress. This is very bad news for over a million americans. Nancy has been out of work since september 2012. Her countless job applications have led nowhere and the single mom has more to stress about than just herself. I dont know how im going to pay the mortgage and keep the car. Its not just me. I have three boys to think of. Reporter longterm benefits kick in after state benefits run out. The average check is about 300 a week. It really matters to those people who arent working and their families. Reporter in january, senators will vote whether to extend benefits for three months. Its my hope that when the question is called, republicans will respond. The pressure of the nations eyes will be upon them. Reporter some republicans think this creates more expectations from the government. Some argue the number of longterm unemployed will rapidly grow. If this program is not renewed by 2014, well have well over 1. 3 million workers with no benefits.
