Reporter im in the area known as the splash zone around pacifica, where the waves typically slash onto the boardwalk. Signs warn people to be careful and alert when youre walking around. Thankfully we have not seen the waves splash on the boardwalk, but certainly some massive swells. There have been ten to 15foot swells, but officials are warning people about sneaker waves until tomorrow morning. The waves are a little big for this beach. Reporter even the regulars at pacifica state beach say it was tough to catch a clean wave this afternoon. The coast guard is warning surfers and swimmers to be on the lookout for twostory sneaker waves. Theyre only a sneaker if youre not watching. I like to see all the surfers out, looks like theyre catching pretty big waves. Reporter ann hicks and her kids enjoyed the massive swells from a safe distance. Pretty strong for the kids to play. Reporter a couple of miles north people have moved away because they cant sleep. Reporter she says she welcomes the waves crashing into her backyard. This is a paradise day. Reporter huge boulders act as a buffer between the ocean and her living room. Just up the street, her neighbors dont have the same protection. This is what one of the cliffs looked like in january of last year and this is what the same cliff looks like today. Several feet of land have fallen into the ocean below. Pretty soon well have beachfront property and theyll charge more rent. Reporter the coast guard is asking swimmers to stay out of the water. If youre planning to take a boat out, let a friend or Family Member know where youre going and how long you expect to be gone, just as a precaution with the huge waves out here tonight. Police announcing today they arrested this man, eddie ruiz of san jose, in connection with the shooting of an economics professor. The shooting happened back in july at willow and first streets in san jose, a couple of blocks from washington elementary school. San jose pd says this Surveillance Video recorded around the time that david moglen was shot is what led investigators to arrest ruiz three months later. Moglen was an economics professor at Evergreen Valley College at san jose and Foothill College in los altos hills. The sinking Millennium Tower is sinking into even more trouble tonight. The San Francisco City Attorney announced hes now suing the towers developer, claiming condo owners were deliberately and illegally kept in the dark about the problems. Reporter thats why San Franciscos City Attorney Dennis Herrera says hes suing the developer of the Millennium Tower. He said Mission Street Development Llc knew as early as february 2009 that the 58story building was sinking farther and faster than anyone expected. But failed to tell buyers. What one peninsula woman is doing with them makes it a bay area proud story. Here is garvin thomas. Janelle, Dorothea Lang was a portrait forever in San Francisco before she became wellknown. Now her images are yielding benefits for a small bay area art museum. Reporter theres more than one way to be put on the map. Sure, though tucked away off a busy el camino real, youll find the Peninsula Museum of art on any street map of burlingame. But how does a small, relatively new museum specializing in living Northern California artists put itself on the map of the art world . Well, ellen chong, one of the museums dedicated volunteers has a plan. One shes pretty excited about. I was actually welling up with tears, because it just means so much. Reporter it all has to do with something thats been tucked away on the floor of ellens closet for quite some time. Ive had them in my possession for three decades, at least that, in my fire safe. Reporter they are more than 20 prints by the legendary photographer Dorothea Lang. And not just any pictures by a famous artist. For ellen, theyre pieces of family history. That is my mother as a young girl, walking on a barrel, down a shallow stretch of the creek. Reporter ellens grandmother, louise love it, wa a lifelong friend of langs. Ever since i first saw the collection when i was a teenager, i was told how famous this photographer was, and she was a friend of grandmas et cetera. I didnt know my grandparents sun bathed in the nude until then. Reporter it also wasnt until ellen, an artist herself, started volunteering with the museum that she fell in love with it and started to think of ways she could do more to raise its attendance and stature. So one day she marched into the Museum Founders office with a surprise. I laid them oud for ht for h. She was astonished that here was this treasure that had been hidden away for 30 years. Reporter conservation of the photos is now complete, and the collection is set to open at the museum this january. Ellen suspects there are many more famous museums that would have loved to have hosted such an exhibit. But just one she loved enough to share it with. Wow. I didnt share the picture of her grandparents in the nude. Youll have to go to the exhibit to see that one. I didnt think 5 00 was the right time to share that with folks.
