Reporter everyone from the pope to the president s daughter and his secretary of state, a former oil executive, want President Trump to stay in the 2015 paris climate agreement, aimed at cutting greenhouse emissions. But top strategist steve bannon and epa chief scott pruitt want the u. S. Out, arguing it hurts business and could embolden environmentalists to fight the president s policy. And with almost a fifth of the worlds emissions, could a u. S. Withdrawal make it all go up in smoke . Jean claude, the european commissioner, said not everything in International Agreements is fake news. We have to comply with it. Fired fbi director james comey has now been cleared to testify on capitol hill. And lawmakers are now issuing new subpoenas to some key figures tied to the Trump Campaign. The russia questions are mounting just as the white house says its done answering them ahead of james comeys upcoming testimony, the press Secretary Sean Spicer has announced hes now going to refer all questions about russia to the president s newly appointed outside counsel. This morning james comey is ready to share his story, a source close to the former fbi director tells nbc news that comey has been, quote, cleared for takeoff by special Counsel Robert Mueller, getting the goahead to testify before congress as early as next week where hes certain to be asked what President Trump said to him about the russia investigation. Nbc news has previously learned comey told friends he felt pressured by the president to back off the investigation. It comes as the russia inquiry grows with new subpoenas issued for ousted National Security adviser michael flynn, the president s personal lawyer michael cohen, and both mens companies. Subpoenas also sent from the republicanled House Intelligence Committee related to possible improper unmasking of trump associates. The committee seeking information on requests made by three top obama officials. National security adviser susan rice, cia director john brennan, and u. N. Ambassador samantha power. Rice is vigorously denied any wrongdoing. I leaked nothing to nobody. And never have and never will. Reporter also this morning the Washington Post reporting the Trump Administration is considering giving russia back a pair of luxury retreats near new york city and on marylands eastern shore. Diplomatic compounds, the Obama Administration said were being used for intelligencerelated purposes. Shutting them down last december to punish russia for interfering in the election. A state Department Spokesman says the u. S. And russia have reached no agreements. And a former top National Security adviser to president obama tweeting, what possible explanation could there be for this . It only enables russian spying on the United States. And i have proposed to the white house a carbon dividends proposal where we would impose a carbon tax, but rebate it all to the American People so it doesnt grow government. Its conservative, free market, limited government and internationally competitive. That would put us in compliance with that accord. Tom, mitt romney tweeted yesterday, he said, affirmation of the Paris Agreement is not only about climate, its about america remaining a global leader. Do you think we have to stay in to change the future of the world . I feel very strongly about the reality of global Climate Change. And i think we have to acknowledge that. Jim also has an idea that i think has real merit. Not just have the white house make the decision, but we talked about pumping it over to the senate. This is a treaty, might ought to need ratification and have a National Debate about that. I think president obama didnt submit it to the senate because he was afraid it wouldnt get approval. So he called it an executive agreement. Why not submit it to the senate . If the Senate Ratifies it as a treaty, then we know the American People are behind it and see what happens. Im not sure it would get through the senate. Interesting. Because, of course, the senate is controlled by republicans. Ive got to ask you about another big topic we just talked about. James comey, the fired fbi director set to testify perhaps as early as next week. If you had been in the white house, comey has detractors on all sides, but would you have advised the president to fire the fbi director in these circumstances . Or did he make this situation worse for himself . I dont know the answer to that because i dont know everything that was going on at the time. But i will say this, i think director comey made a huge mistake back in july when he stepped down and held that press conference saying, weve seen a lot of bad activity here on the part of Hillary Clinton but nothing that would result in her being charged. He assumed usurped himself the prosecutorial discretion that should rest in the justice department. You can say Loretta Lynch was disqualified because she met with bill clinton on her airplane, but there was a Deputy Attorney general who should have made that decision. The fbis investigative agent. If it was a fireable offense, should trump have done it on day one . Well, again, i dont know everything that happened. But the president has absolute power to fire the fbi director any time he wants to. You are often seen as the Gold Standard when it comes to white house chiefs of staff serving in that position twice. When you look at what is going on in the white house right now, and assess the dynamic, whos running the show . Is it the right person . And are there too many competing interests . Well, i said back on february 9th to politico, i did an interview and said the one thing that worries me about the way theyre set up is there are five or six competing Power Centers with broad overlapping authority and mega responsibility. And thats not a good recipe because thats contributed to all the fighting going on in there. He needs to empower one person, make sure everybody understands thats the guy or thats the lady, and give them the authority to run the white house. And make it a strong chief of staff. He needs that. They badly need also a message discipline in that white house. You know, you cant run something as big as the government unless everybodys singing from the same hymnal. It was a lot tougher to cover them than it is to cover this white house, by the way, because there are so many competing in this white house. Everybody wants to get their message out. Thats why you see the stuff coming out 24 7. When jim baker was chief of staff of Ronald Reagan, it was a tightly run ship. And you dealt with a single or a couple of people in key positions, and he was always very straight with us. He didnt give up anything he didnt want to. Sometimes i was pushing him pretty hard at that point but he wouldnt give it up. But in this white house, its not just about the public image of it but the chaos behind the scenes ive never seen before in any ways. A lot of the power struggle playing out publicly. The suspect open fire sparking a short but intense gun battle that sent customers and workers diving for cover. Oh, my gosh, where is he . Greenville 911, whats going on . I dont know where he is Reporter Police say two investigators from corpus christi, gabriel burnall and fidel garcia, tried to arrest ramone hutchison. There was a warrant out for his arrest. The bounty hunters approached with guns drawn. Hutchinson tried to pull a pistol from his waistband. After a brief scuffle, all three men unloaded their weapons. Police say 20 shots were fired in just six seconds. The bullets shattering glass and sending terrified customers running for their lives. Authorities investigating a Police Shooting that left a suspect in serious condition. The incident unfolded last night in martinez, thats where Police Tracked down a wanted suspect on ellis road. In the video you see, 41yearold tiger woods unsteady on his feet, slurring his words. Photos taken by the police show the car is damaged, two flat tires on the driver side, both rear wheels bent. Woods tells officers he has not been drinking. Have you been drinking tonight . No. No . Are you sure about that . Yes. Reporter that later verified by a breath test that revealed no alcohol in his system. Woods did admit according to a Police Affidavit he was on four Prescription Medications including vicodin. Have you taken any medication today . Yes. Reporter the golfing great was arrested. Im placing you under arrest for suspicious of driving under the influence, okay. Reporter woods said what happened was a reaction to the medications. I didnt realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly. And he apologized taking full responsibility for his actions. Because this is tiger woods first time dui offense, he may be eligible for a dui Diversion Program which means that he could skip a criminal trial here if hes willing instead to meet certain conditions of rehabilitation. I was always captivated as a kid by the grand canyon. Just the idea of this massive open space and a river thats way, way down and it took millions of years to form, just seemed so crazy to me. Over the years, the grand canyon had become such a special place to me, i even proposed to my wife debra there. I remember thinking that the only thing greater than this unbelievable site is to be able to say this is something ive shared with somebody else. We have taken hardware and taken glue to put them together to give you a big enough surface to cut into any shape you want. I love your flower. Right through the middle. This is a 1inch bit. Wear safety goggles doing Something Like that. Right through that and the rope is going through here. Then you are going to paint this up. And tie a knot at the bottom to make sure it holds. Heres the key, you will put this through a branch on the tree. You dont want to tie a knot to kill the branch or weaken it. So we are going to taken a ibolt and drill it through. Secure this through. Then we have a them thimble and the rope will be attached to this. Im going to pretend to paint and then swing with molly kate. Carson, how is your short game . It needs work. How did you know . Lady fairway . Youre going to make a golf hole . You can make i want as complex or as simple as you want. This is medium density fiberboard. We have adhesive. Take that. Wholesaw, plumbing fixtures. How do you get the felt through start spraying. Spray the felt. Get all over it. This is just a glue . This is a spray adhesive and youre going to get the felt from a craft store, all the wood is coming from a home center. Youre then this is the bottom side. This is the 2 by 2 glue here to raise it up. And youre going to pull it up and put it on there. Work on that. Now every panel gets put together, but one of them is going to have a hole in it right here. Okay. So you will have drilled the whole first with the wholesaw. Once the felt is on, this is an end cap, pvc. That ends up going in. Making a mini golf course here. Youre playing ill send it over to al. Thanks, kevin. How are you doing . Soccer, you look ready to play . I always wonder how people put together the goals. Pvc pipe, fittings, elbows and tees. This is deep netting, zip ties and cutters. You have tubing cutters here, this is a ratchet. Very easy to work with. You can cut this to length. Watch this. Pops it right off. Youll be putting these together with the pvc glue. And youre going to form up the goal. You can see the kids over here playing with it. Now the netting, weve put it on there, apply it with zip ties. Put it on there, turn it around the other way and put that all the way around. And youre probably, in all of these things, in an afternoon, will be playing with the kids in a whole bunch of different ways. They are playing soccer. You got that there . I dont think so. Yes, very much so. 9 00 on the food network, 15th season. Johnny cakes, which i like to call bobby cakes. I like that. What are they for those who dont know . They are cornmeal pancakes. We have yellow cornmeal, obviously flour and baking powder. Im going to put fresno chilies on top and use tomatoes. I like the idea of forcing summer in. Now, i think, when i think of summer foods, thii think of cor and tomatoes first. Why not use ground cornmeal to get the flavor in . And if you are going to use tomatoes in june, the first day of june, go with the small tomato. Well talk about those later. Okay. Start us off. Were going to make the cornmeal pancakes first. Start with the dry ingredients, cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Then i have an egg here with egg whites. And were going to mix this together and take the wet and then fold it into the dry. Okay . So milk and then the egg and the egg whites. Wait. Fold in. Show us your folding technique. So youre going to take your spatula. And as i slowly start to how is my folding . Pretty good. You want to be more aggressive, just kind of like that. Just fold it thats what matt always says to me, be more aggressive. Fold. Then we have the johnny cakes. The thing about the johnny cakes is they dont need to be perfect, okay . In terms of shape. If you look at some of the ones ive made here, some of them are circular, some are oval and some have shape that is dont have a name. It doesnt matter. Well put the johnny cakes in here and let them cook. I like to use the cast iron pan because you get the crust on the outside. You have a little oil on the bottom. Exactly. Turn these over, perfect. Is there anything about this type of pancake . The cornmeal will give it a nice crust and crunch while cooking it. You can serve these savory, like were going to do today, or for breakfast as well, like maple syrup, butter and some foods. Can i just check in with team pancake over here . It is like a pancake and cornbread. Thats exactly what it tastes like. My grandma used to make these. Okay. Its all the ingredients you have in your pantry. So well top these quickly with a little bit of tomatoes and shallots. You can see, savannah, im using the smaller tomato that is are sweeter in the offseason. Were not quite into tomato time yet. Not quite. So fresh basil, fresh tomatoes and shallots and a little bit of lemon juice to bring out the flavor. You want to season that with salt and pepper . Sure. There you go. Nice. And a little bit of olive oil. Stir that up if you would like. Yep. And then pork chop. The pork chop is for later but thanks for asking. So were going to take a little bit of ricotta cheese. I feel like ricotta cheese. You sound like giada. Ricotta cheese is sort of making a comeback. You can see it in a lot of restaurants and on the table. So we are going to take some ricotta cheese and put it on top of the pancakes. And the beautiful tomato relish that we made ahead of time. Thats gorgeous. It doesnt have, again, dont make it perfect, just kind of let them go and cascade off the johnny cakes. It looks like its light even though its a pancake. Its fantastic. It gives you that sort of summer feeling. Do explain the pork chop, is that on dot com . Were going to make that later. As you explain, hand that over. Well have the pork chop. This is part one. Its been 20 years, hard to believe. Its worth going on tour again. The last 20 years flew by. Thats a nice segway. So yesterday i told you guys yesterday i had a chance to go back to my alma mater, Northwestern University, we are all doing stories where we are going back to our schools and just kind of reliving our memories or whatever. So this is the iconic place on campus at Northwestern University in evanston outside of chicago. It was a lot more emotional than i thought it would be. I just thought i was going on campus to have a good time. This is the rock, so its one of the iconic places on camera, on campus where you paint it overnight and you guard it so the next morning when people walk on campus they see it. There you are. I painted it back in the day. In the middle of the night with my sorority, that was kind of cool to go back to that. And then i wanted to knock on the door of my old dorm room. I remembered the dorm and kind of remembered the area, but its fascinating to me that 22 years later they knew exactly which room. Clearly. So i knocked on the door. And it was this sweet little girl, shes so smart, shes like a neuroscience major. They changed the floors, they have hardwood now. Fancy. A little fancier. But it was pretty cool. The backtoschool piece will air next week. But i think i kind of got emotional because i remember, im from wichita, kansas, these were the journalism students. And this is what made me emotional because i always want to do news. I told this guy in middle school that i wanted to be a News Reporter and he was like, what is your back up . I was like, huh . I dont need a backup. I said, this is what i want to do. So yesterday we get there and be there 23 years later and i was like, dang, up kind of did it. I was very grateful. I remember when we did rokerth rokerthon. Look at you there. I was a cheerleader in high school. I auditioned for the dance squad and was the alternate. I didnt make it. That was the first thing. I was devastated at the time. So to go back and dance with them you were like, i can do it. That was a really good move, too. That was a good move. And you did the same thing, you went back. When we did rokerthon, we ended in oswego, and i went to my dorm room. There were young women there. There you are. I knocked on the door, there they were. It was so much cleaner. Wait, were there women living any year was the first year was the first year in 1972, it was the first year they, our dorm, they are suites, but it was coed and they alternated suites. Oh, wow. Is that why you decided to go there . No, i didnt even know that. That room looks huge. Theres a living area and then three bedrooms. So two people apiece. Thats cool. And we had our own bathroom. Were they shocked when al roker showed up on their door . I think they had an idea i was coming. Same thing with the girl that was in my dorm room, like it was mine, shes an r. A. And i think she thought i was going to say an actor or movie star. And she said, Tony Morrison . Well, afterwards, she said, what are you doing now . I said, oh, i have to fly to somewhere. She goes, dang, because i was going the have you over for a margarita with Tony Morrison. I was like, thats my dream did you ever do that . No, i have never done it. Tony morrison, lets have a margarita. I was an english major. Its been fun to do with my sister. We are excited, next fall it comes out. And its been therapeutic. It is therapy for barbara and me.
