We had a couple of fender benders. Two lanes blocked just as you hit towards 880. Thats over to the nimitz freeway. You can access it but half of your lanes are blocked. The community vowing to come back stronger in the wake of that mass shooting earlier this week. This, as new details trickling in about what might have led up to the tragedy. Today in the bays peggy bunker is live where there was a candlelight vigil last night. We can only imagine how raw the emotions are in the Community Just a day later. Well, you know, kris and sam, when we first landed here in San Bernardino a couple of days ago, everyone was wondering who would do such a thing, who would commit such a horrible act. We know who the suspects are, a couple in their late 20s, syed farook and tashfeen malik. People were gunned down celebrating a Holiday Party and they were doing nothing wrong. At this vigil in San Bernardino, innocent people were taken from us. A woman remembers her husband nicholas. He stood up for people, was a protector. Im sure that he was fighting and protecting people. Reporter now, the interesting thing is that jennifer also says he knew syed farook, was a coworker here with syed farook. He was a Health Inspector for the county of San Bernardino for five years. Many people knew him and remember him as being peaceful and calm. Obviously, not the case now. Once again, back to jennifer as she remembers her husband. He knew syed. He had worked with him. He never had anything bad to say about him. Reporter never a bad thing to say about him. We also spoke with a woman yesterday who worked at a restaurant. She remembered when syed farook came in to investigate the restaurant to give the restaurant the Health Clearance and she remembers him also as being calm and friendly. So its something here that people are really trying to grapple with, the image they had of farook and what happened on wednesday. Coming up here at 5 00, well tell you about a father of six, so many people are learning about this man, a baby all the way up to a teenager. That family obviously just devastated like so many others. So well see you again at 6 00. Thank you very much, peggy. Meantime, investigators are working around the clock trying to figure out what the motive was behind that massacre. And whether if its because the husband and wife who carried out the killing spree will radicalize islamic terrorists. Police have removed rubble from the home and the computers and cell phones indicate that during the past year farook was talking with people who showed interest in radical jihad. But in an interview with nightly news with lester holt, farooks brotherinlaw is taki taking a look at a different picture. He was normal just like anybody would be but nothing that i can see that he could do that. Nothing that would fit the term radicalized, as we have heard . The Public Policy institute is now calling on government leaders to reform the way that california handles water issues, including the oversight of water rights, the trading of water rights and the environmental use of water. Chairwoman marcus told me she wants to work within the Current System to refine and change things. She admits that in many places california continues to rely on 19th century technology, rules and approaches to water. But into the rest of the day, some breaks in those clouds and, once again, we still have been tracking a few of the showers moving across parts of the bay area. A closer look at the snow thats been falling in the sierra. That continues. And then here we just have a couple lingering showers that have continued to move farther off to the north and also up around ukiah, you are still seeing some of those showers moving through. Lets take it hour by hour in oakland today. Starts out in the upper 40s. A lot of sun through the afternoon and highs in the low 60s. Well be very comfortable. And then as we head into the weekend, more clouds moving in by tomorrow. And then im going to stop it on sunday. This is sunday morning. Some rain is moving in for the north bay and then it moves elsewhere across the bay area heading in to at least those hours before noon. By the afternoon, though, it should be clearing out. This should not ruin your weekend and we may not be done with the active weather just there. But look at how much rain we could see for that system moving through on sunday. A possible another inch for the north bay and then moves to the south bay and fizzles out but brings a little bit of some showers there. The weekend forecast stays cool and our highs are slightly below average in some spots. Upper 50s, a chance of rain as we head into sunday and, once again, it does stay active heading in to next week. Possibly a couple more rounds of rain on wednesday and thursday. A uc Berkeley Student is recovering after an attempted sexual assault. A homeless man attacked a student. Officers say the man hit her from behind and knocked her onto a grassy area. He actually pinned her to the ground and she tried to call for help and he pinned her to the ground. I wont get into too much specifics but it looked like he was going to try to sexually assault her. He robbed her of her phone and identity and fleed the area. It doesnt make me feel comfortable. Personal, im okay with it but its scary with everyone we know, all of the students. Police arrested wilford allen. Officers found him not far from the site with the womans belongings. Hell be in court today. A socalled stowaway Marilyn Hartman will be released from custody today. In chicago she is in the most trouble. Shes been in custody since the spring for trying to get on planes at both ohare and midway airports. She will be forced to wear ankle bracelets to make sure she doesnt get within 2500 feet of either of those two airports. We expect details about how the lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots died. Bobbys got a gun Scott Weiland passed away in his sleep during a tour stop in indiana. He has been arrested several times for drugs and alcohol.
