Francisco. For most of us upper 50s. But well see the temperature s spreading out from low 60s along the coastline to 81 in the trivalley. It stays nice and cool as we head into the weekend. Ill detail that coming up. Mike is still eyeing a crash in sausalito. We dont have any problems toward the Golden Gate Bridge but right now thats what were watching. The rest of the bay has slowing but this one blocks half your freeway southbound 101 at spencer avenue. Car went off the shoulder there. Reported as an overturned vehicle. I think it just went down the little embankment there. Still, lanes closed until 6 30. No update from chp. No slowing over the last few minutes. Right at the scene though you should see that. The bay bridge also has the backup. Metering lights are on there as well. Talk about oakland coming up. Back to you. After years of preparation and anticipation, the wait is almost over. A beautiful live look at rio de janiero this morning where in just a matter of hours thousands will pack the famed maracana stadium to witness the celebration of a lifetime, the Opening Ceremony. Jessica aguirre is live with us from rio with a sneak peek of its ceremony. The promises to be a party and, make no mistake about it, theres going to be some dancing. Oh, of course theres going to be some dancing. Were talking about brazil here, the country that made the sambo famous. Im olympic park, the largest, sam and laura, of the four main clus eclusters. Behind me what you will see is fencing, judo, and mens basketball will be played. If youre wondering why its so quiet here behind me is because this venue is not officially open. None of them are. And they wont be until after the Opening Ceremony tonight. Now, lets talk about that. As you mentioned, its going to happen in maracana stadium. What happens inside though very top secret. Theyve been five years in the making of this and planning but this is what we do know. 300 dancers doing the samba and whats supposed to be the sexiest costumes weve probably ever seen in an olympic venue or an olympic Opening Ceremony. We also know that Gisele Bundchen, probably the most famous female brazilian of all time is going to be playing a role as the girl from epanema, feature bra skils most famous musicians and also going to look at the culture and the history of brazil. Now brazil is known obviously for carnival but its also known for so much more. Its beautiful landscapes, the amazon, christ the redeemer, probably is the most famous landmark here in rio de janiero. It sits atop the mountain, 124 feet tall. Arms open welcoming all the visitors that come here to brazil. It really is the spiritual icon of this kcountry. Then you go to a city to a neighborhood in lapa, called the steps of selaron. Made by a chilean artist who lived in the neighborhood and got tired of the dilapidated steps and made a mosaic tiles from all around the world. Even a San Francisco tile, there ill tell you. And now tourists from around the worldcom to take pictures there and smile and just really enjoy this colorful mosaic. Go a little bit farther, probably the most famous of all of rios looandmarks are its beaches. 23 peaches, 45 miles of standed. And the most famous, the one we know about the copacabana. That is where everyone gathers. You have the care oak as, the local folks and tourists, all who come to have some fun under the brazilian sun. I love the view. You can see all the beach and its beautiful. Its really beautiful. And, of course, the brazilian people is amazing. So you can see people doing sports on all the beaches. So its beautiful. Now, thats what they were famous for before but now theyre famous nor something garnering lots of attention for holding rio 2016, the Olympic Games. Its going to take place in four separate clusters. Theres copacabana beach, maracana stadium where the Opening Ceremony will take place, and deodoro and the barra. Half a Million People are around the world are expected to visit here over the next 17 days to watch the competition. That presents a lot of challenges for brazil. When they got awarded the games they were booming with money but now theyre in a deep recession. Crime is here and the threat of potential terrorism. Brazil real rihad to dig deep and figure out how it was going to make the games safe. Coming up in a little bit im going to show you how the brazilian government created the multiprong plan to make these olympics safe. Im going to tell you how they went to the bay area during the super bowl to train on how to handle a mega event like the olympics. Thats coming up in a little bit. Sam and laura . Well look forward to that. Thanks so much. As well as all of jessicas reports, shes going to be joining us on today in the bay throughout the morning. Were going to check back with her coming up at 6 30. As we go from rio now back to the bay area, there are new details regarding the zika virus in california. Nbc bay area has confirmed a baby was born in berkeley with zikarelated birth defects. Sources tell us that baby was born at the at a bates Medical Center within the last six months. No other details provided. The baby is one of two children born this california with zikarelated birth defects. State Health Leaders say mothers contracted the virus while traveling abroad. No reports of that virus being locally transmitted. Bob redell will have a live report on this story in the next half hour. Disturbing find at a b. A. R. T. Station, sam. Employee find a rifle on a platform at the macarthur station. 22 caliber winchester turned up in a case under the bench at 9 00 yesterday morning. The big concern for investigators is that someone planned to use it. Investigators arent saying whether the rifle was loaded. The owner has not been identified. Police hope someone comes forward to explain why it was there. 6 07 on your friday morning. Authorities have made an arrest in connection to a hit an run that killed a los gatos couple earlier this year. That crash happened in south san jose back on february 20th. Now follow up investigation at the time led police to identify 33yearold craig allen as a suspect. Officers arrested him on wednesday night and hes now being charged with two counts of murder. Someone is vandalizing bricks honoring Service Members in livermore. Defacing property from world war ii vets to a navy seal. Police say what makes this even weirder is that the suspects stacked the bricks on the ground below the memorial. The small brick which cost about 40 bucks each are to honor active and fallen Service Members with their names and years in the military. Now families and memorial organizers at the vfw are stunned and upset with this mystery. Seems like a needless thing to do. Why . We dont know. Construction is getting under way this morning in a long awaited project to improve protection for People Living along the flood prone San Francisquito creek on the peninsula. Today in the bays kris sanchez is live in East Palo Alto this morning. Kris, every time theres a big storm this is the creek we watch very closely. Reporter definitely. We have been out here covering the flood waters as they flow from the San Francisquito creek under the freeway and over the freeway into the condos across the bay shore freeway. In fact, we have video of flooding from the past el nino rains of this last winter. Sandbagging happened then as well. You dont have to live around here to know how bad it can get because if you commute on highway 101, then chances are youve seen some of the freeway flooding here as well. But the winter rains are only one reason for this project. This area also needs protection from rising sea levels because of climate change. In fact, the San Francisquito creek could not withstand 100year flood at this point. Todays Ground Breaking is for a 41 million project to protect areas that have ended up under water before. That includes some 5700 homes and businesses in East Palo Alto but also in palo alto and menlo park. Theyre going to be new levees and floodwalls. The project wont be complete until 2018. The Ground Breaking is at 10 00 this morning. Our colleague Michelle Roberts will be there this morning. But as you can see there is construction going on right now because the Ground Breaking is just the formality where the dignitaries get their pictures but this work has been in the works for about three years getting permitting processes, working with pg e to move power and other utility lines. So definitely the folks who are out here working, this is old news to them. But the Ground Breaking, again, is for today for the 1 million project for the San Francisquito creek. In East Palo Alto, kris sanchez, today in the bay. The Ground Breaking with the gold shovels and then the Big Equipment out. Long time in the making. No flooding, no ponding, a little drizzle out there today. Kari hall is joining us with your weather. Swrou can see as we get a live look out San Francisco and the temperature now is at 58 degrees. We will see the clouds hanging out there throughout most of the day. So expect the windshield wipers to turn on for a little while. Now, as we get a look at todays high temperatures, 61 degrees in San Francisco. That will be it. 73 degrees in santa rosa as well as palo alto. And fairfield today topping out at 79 degrees with livermore today at 80 degrees. We will talk about a little bit of a warmup really next week. Heading over to mike tracking two reports for the nimitz. Thats right. The first one im talking about just came in seconds ago. Trying to get more detail but were seeing some slowing on our sensors already as we look at the bay. Zoom in over here toward union city. Down in toward fremont. Slows approaching alvarado and niles. Second lane but they were trying to get the vehicles to the right shoulder. You see slowing there. Well get an update once chp arrives. Meanwhile over here, northbound 880, reports of a bumper in lanes and possible crash there as well but sounds like all lanes are clear. Bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are on. Backup there. Following this crash in sausalito. I do want to show you that. Metering lights are on. Fastrak lanes are visibly moefing. Thats friday. Back to you. Thanks, mike. Chows Attorney Says that he is going to fight for an appeal. A lot of questions this morning for a San Francisco company. Did it engage in sneaky sales practice . Scott mcgrew is calling this a condiment caper. The company in question, sam, is San Francisco based hampton creek. They make an eggless mayonnaise called just mayo. They sent employees and contractors out to Grocery Stores to buy up the jars of just mayo by the hundreds. Hampton creek says they were checking for quality. Was their product still good after it was transported to the stores. But there is a suspicion what the company was doing was fooling stores into thinking the product was more popular than it really was. Dont misunderstand that wouldnt be illegal. You could make a product and send it to a store and buy it back. Its your money. But it may be misleading to investors and certainly to stores. Well, backing up the very big job number we got in june, we got another one for july. Unemployment rate 4. 9 . This certainly has a political component. Look at that number. 255,000 jobs added. You cant look at the last 60 days with a half million jobs added and say that the economy is in trouble. Though of course thats exactly what donald trump is saying. The last time he faced an unexpectedly good jobs number last month, a quarter million, the Trump Campaign said, quote, these numbers are massaged to make the existing economy look good, to make this administration look good, when in fact its a total disaster. When the numbers were not so good back in may trump seemed to accept them. He said the economy is going the wrong way, folks. Theyve been kidding themselves. Theyre playing games. Its going the wrong way. One group of people not feeling enthusiastic about the jobs this morning workers at milpitas based fireeye, a Security Company. The Company Going to layoff 400 workers. Total surprise. Fireye was a super hot Security Company, ipoed in 2013. Brand new ceo is making cuts. 400 is a lot considering this company isnt very big to begin with. Prepare for a sale . Parks making it look better . I think theyre just trying to cut costs. Interesting, okay. Scott, thank you very much. For team usa swimming the competition starts soon in rio but before they get down to business they got down with a bill carpool karaoke. Take a listen. Thats Gold Medalist Nathan Adrian behind the well. Missy franklin, Michael Phelps, the list goes on and on. They had fun. The u. S. Mens and womens team posted an eightminute lost skit to youtube featuring the team singing along to a variety of songs and a variety of costumes as well. Yeah, those are not the sleek swimsuits they will be using. It is really great to just see them having so much fun. And then you know the rest of the time is going to be super serious. And focused. A lot of intensity on display there. Did youadrians face, into it. Closed his eyes while hes driving. Cooler weather, too. Lit be nice this weekend. Even though some spots it will be very cloudy, misty, and we have the drizzle. So you can get a live look outside now at tiburon. You see the low hanging clouds and also you may have turned on the windshield wipers as you get this day started. 57 degrees there now. We have mostly some 50s and 60s as you get this friday started. 77 degrees will be the high today. San mateo, 70 degrees. The Mission District only up to 60 today. While we will have upper 70s, fairfield, 79. Walnut creek, 77. Oakland, 67 with low 80s in the trivalley. A lot going on this weekend including outside lands in San Francisco at Golden Gate Park. Lit only be in the 50s for most of the day. And briefly hitting 60 for a couple hours. So if youre going out there make sure you have on long sleeves, nice warm clothes. In fremont tomorrow, it will be beautiful with those temperatures in the low to mid 70s with a breezy wind. And High Pressure breaking down. Thats whats kept it very warm here. And now we are getting in with some low pressure thats well to the north of us. Also pushing down some cooler air, a stronger ocean breeze. It will be mainly foggy at the coastline for most of the weekend. But the inland areas will be breezy with some clearing. Looking here at home in San Francisco, it will be in the low 60s and up to 65 degrees on sunday. Next week well have a little bit of some warping with some upper 60s. A little bit more noticeable for the inland areas. Up to 90 degrees to start out next week. But over the next couple of days, it will be nice. Reaching into the lower 80s and 85 degrees on sunday. And checking out that forecast for rio as well. It will be in the upper 80s this weekend. Opening ceremony this evening looking nice. Most likely right there in the low 70s. Heading over to mike now, more slowing for the crash in union city. Thats right. 880 at alvarado, niles. With rest of the bay shows you pretty much green sensors all over. Its a lighter friday commute. Notes for Union City Area as well as salsa alito. Sand by 101. 880, slowing. Whipple where you, look, alternate es turns into union cy boulevard. You know thats an alternate to 880. But stick it out because i just got word that all lanes of the nimitz from reopened southbound out of hayward. Now, over here we still have a closure for two lanes southbound 101 at spencer in sausalito. Backup going towards the bridgeway offramp. Stick it out there as well because we hope to have some relief over the next ten minutes. Two lanes are still open but that does slow you down, does delay you out of the san rafael and down toward the Golden Gate Bridge and of course the bay bridge metering lights are on. Low clouds hovering around the bridge as well. A sheen on the road. I havent heard of a problem because of slick roadways. Coming up next, another big week of putting money back into your pocket. Inside the famous maracana stadium, years of anticipation and preparation all coming down to the next 17 days. Not only for thousands of athletes but for this city as well. Our own Jessica Aguirre is live in rio. Jess, the big question is, is rio ready . While that is the big question, is rio ready . And then they go after they light the olympic flame it goes from preparation all those years to competition. And the competition will happen across four venues, main venues here in rio. Half Million People are expected to flood this city. Right now it is quiet but when they do, the top concern will be security. How do you keep all those people safe when theyre spread out all across the city . The brazilian government tackled that question if the midst of a terrible recession. They have made it clear that they want to make these Olympic Games safe. And theyve done it through a multi. Prong approach. Theyre using hightech security scanner, cameras. But on the streets, the most visible way of showing security is the force of national and the 85,000 soldiers and Police Officers that are manning the streets at all the olympic venues including at maracana stadium where the athletes will be there tonight and 70,000 people. Now, it is top secret whats going to happen in there. But we also understand from the creative director of this show that it is going to be the sexiest thing weve ever seen. As crews rush to finish lastminute touch ups and clean ups around the venues and inside olympic stadium, overnight rehearsals provide a flash of what to expect from tonights Opening Ceremony. Like every host country brazil is keeping the specifics of the celebration a secret. But officials do say it wont reach the scale of beijing or other ceremonies. Instead, were told its going to be more personal, sharing the story of brazil, a big part of that story is, no doubt, the music, the moves, and the flare of the first south American Country to host the games. And its top secret. I think its going to be great. And its going to be a big sur price. Reporter another first here, Michael Phelps will join in the Opening Ceremony carrying the flag for team usa. This has to be i mean, one of the coolest thing ive ever done. Reporter and phelps, the worlds most decorated olympian has done some pretty cool things at the Olympic Games. Phelps is hoping to do more cool things here in baja, the largest of the olympic clusters. Theres plenty of representation from the bay area, from cal and from stanford. In fact, 71 athletes with bay area ties will be here. 30 of them alone are from stanford. Burst out into the crowd of the stadium, 110,000 people and they saw the United States delegation and there was a big cheer that went up. And it was so mag any tent.
