Youll see temperatures rising much more from where we are now, but at least we dont see heavy rain. Ill talk about it and well get a look at the rain, the heavy rain that moves in overnight. Weve seen that from time to time. No surprises for the south bay or the east bay unless the surpri surprise. Slowing south 101 towards spencer avenue where the overturned vehicle has been there for a while. Chp says thats the only issue and they may have to block a third lane. This seems to be the biggest danger from this water main break. We found out the residents inside the wolfe Senior Center apartments, they had lost their water pressure. But the ut wahher department told me they redirected that water pressure so theyre doing okay this morning. This is the problem. If thats flowing through the building, what damage is it doing . Well find out as the morning goes on. As sam said, this started around 3 00 this morning. Water gushing basically from the ground up, from 4th and howard from a 12inch break. There are water crews here, fire crews here doing whatever we can to clean this thing up. The break has been pretty much capped. A little pressure in that pipe. The other area of concern, people losing water pressure or any other water issue, the bigger issue is the Moscone Center behind me. That is the problem because theyve got to figure out what damage this is doing to the area and also cleaning up all this mess. 4th and howard is just dirt and mud. The intersection still closed down. A child was putting away a small cart when another woman was heard saying something to the effect of, shes mine. The woman grabbed the child and ran out of the store. Look what happens as we go into late tonight. We start to see the rain lining up just to the north of us. Then it moves to the south as we go into tonight and early tomorrow morning. Some pockets of heavy rain will be possible. Here we are, 6 30 in the morning. Bright yellows and reds here showing we could have heavy rainfall moving through, moving from north to south. It will be with us at least through noontime. Then we get clearing as far as the rain. Skies dont clear until later tomorrow night. This weekend is looking drier, at least for sunday. But not before we get an additional quarter inch of rain at least heading over to the east bay, a little higher. The forecast shows we hold our temperatures steady in the 50s and still more weather systems moving through next week to keep it wet. As we head over to mike, looking like a crash at the east bay. Thats right, on the bay bridge. The funnel point where the east bay goes over towards San Francisco<\/a>, were looking at the bay, some debris might be across the dumbarton bridge. The other bridge the more major issue, the bay bridge. A fenderbender off the eastshore freeway. A look at the bay bridge live camera, we had fire truck and crews there. Still one set of flashing lights out of the fast track lanes toward the toll plaza. That is blocking one lane. It looks like they might be doing more work just past there. Theres the chp vehicle as well. The fire trump and the big distraction has cleared. Traffic moving relatively slowly for the hov lanes and even the fast track lanes. A smooth flow for the rest of the bay. Southbound through sausalito near lincoln, jammed up near spencer where the tow truck tries to clear the vehicle overturned there. Despite sharing a liver and other vital organs, theyre lively, giggly toddlers. Now for the first time in separate beds. For mom, its a miracle that will take time to get used to. The first time i saw the girls, it was very surreal. It still seems very surreal when i see oneonone side and the other on the other side. It has been a long journey to get here, but weve been a dream come true. Each girl is going to carry a portion of the other one, a portion of shared organs. Each one has one leg. A third smaller leg was used for skin grafts. Doctors say the surgery went as well as they could have possibly hoped for. The girls will stay in intensive care for about two weeks. We have it parked at san bruno mountain. Its got a view of whats happening around the bay area. It fills in the glaps for our radar, it gives an hd view of whats happening. Whats different about this, its mobile. Thats one. It has a better radar detail. It gives us better storm accuracy and fills in the radar coverage a that sometimes our radars may miss due to our topography. We can detect different types of precipitation. Once again, thats what we have fired up this morning as we get ready to track the next storm system moving in. As of now, things are nice and quiet. Only light rain and fog. That may affect your drive this morning. Lets head over to mike to see more about whats happening with the crash in sausalito. Traffic is light as youd expect on a december friday. Much drier and calmer than yesterday. A little slowing develops across the san mateo bridge. Coming down to the Golden Gate Bridge<\/a>, we have a lot more slowing, but these sensors are starting to improve. Thats because we have only one lane now blocked. They opened one of those lanes as the crash continues to be cleared. Tow truck on scene south 101 at spencer avenue. Thats the problem south of the curve as you head past donohue and the Golden Gate Bridge<\/a>. The bridge itself moving smoothly towards San Francisco<\/a>. In the city itself, we have this major concern. The freeways moving well. But getting to and from the bay bridge is hampered past the muss sco Moscone Center<\/a>. Its all happening on Howard Street<\/a> between 3rd and 5th streets in soma. Today in the bays rick boone live at the scene to explain what happened and how its impacting traffic. Good morning, rick. This all started around 3 00 this morning when that water main break happened, a 12inch pipe thats now been capped. The only main concern has been flooding to the basement of the Moscone Center<\/a>. Thats attempted to be cleaned up right now. It did cause concern to residents inside an apartment building, over 200. They now have water this morning. This pipe was built back in 1895, going back over a hundred years here. I guess it did its purpose according to the Water Department<\/a> but now causing havoc on this intersection. Tonight will mark one week since the deadly warehouse fire broke out. As we know, 36 people died during the fire. Still so many questions about what caused it. Even though the recovery effort here at the socalled ghost ship warehouse that burned down a week ago tonight is complete, theres still a lot of analysis and investigation work that needs to be done. Later today a special Forensics Team<\/a> with the atf will go to the site and map the interior of the warehouse. Thats the next step in trying to determine the cause of the fire. Last night Oakland City Council<\/a> declared a local state of emergency in connection with this tragedy. This will allow the families of those who died, nearby businesses and the city itself to apply for state money to help pay for losses and the recovery effort. 36 people died in this tragedy. The burn site is a memorial where family and friends of those who lost, come to pay their respects. He was just wonderful. He was fun to be with. He was a very positive person. He was a oneofakind talent. I just pray and i hope that we can look at safety for our other artists. Reporter the city of oakland has received a lot of criticism for what it did not do prior to the fire. You might recall nbc bay area was the first to report earlier this week that the Fire Department<\/a> had not inspected this warehouse in at least ten years. At 6 35 this morning, out of the ashes of the tragic oakland warehouse fire and the deep loss for so many for those left behind, it comes with what a loved one is calling a miracle thanks to social media on facebook. This moved a lot of people. Sya tomiokas boyfriend Griffin Mattis<\/a> was among the victims. Someone took a photograph in new york citys times square last year. She had no idea who took it. After the fire, she put her thoughts out on facebook and that post was shared more than 300 times until eventually the photographer got word. Some of my Police Officer<\/a> friends, they shared the story and said, hey arken, i think that was you. I went to my hard drive and i found it. That is when they went to see the book of mormon. In her first post she said finding this photographer will allow her to keep a treasured memory. Yesterday she issued a new post thanking everyone saying it would bring a glimpse of light back into her life. Theres concerns about whooping cough in the bay area after more than a dozen cases were reported in palo alto. Today in the bays kris sanchez outside Jordan Middle School<\/a>, one of several palo alto schools where students have reportedly come down with a cough. Good morning, kris. Reporter good morning, sam and laura. This time of year we watch for signs of the flu or cold for our kids. This is whooping cough. I want to show you what it sounds like so you know what to watch for. Take a listen. [ cough ]. Reporter the video isnt very impressive. Thats the sound you want to listen forebecause there seems to be a cluster in Santa Clara County<\/a>. At least 17 families have kids homesick or have had kids homesick. The cases center on Jordan Middle School<\/a> where i am now, also gunn and pally high schools. Weve interviewed a doctor before and learned it is normal to see a spike in whooping cough cases though children are vaccinated starting in infancy. Pertussis or whooping cough cycles every few years so we expect every few years there will be an increase in cases of pertussis. Babies and children are vaccinated several times throughout their childhood, but that dtap vaccine wears off. You need to ask about a booster, particularly after age 7. Though since july of this year it has been the law that all public and private schoolchildren have to be vaccinated. Infants are particularly vulnerable as are pregnant women because they are not fully protected. Watch for a cold with a cough. Dont return to your kids to school for five days if they have that. Contact your doctor, and you will likely have to go through a fiveday course of antibiotics before youre allowed back at school. Remind your kids, too, it is cold and flu season, they should definitely wash their hands. If they have a cough, they should cover their cough like dracula so they can limit the spread of the germs. In palo alto, kris sanchez for today in the bay. 6 39 right now. One of the two inmates who escaped from the Santa Clara County<\/a> main jail will be in court today. Chavez will be in for a plea hearing. He and Leron Campbell<\/a> sawed through the bars of a second floor jail window and lowered themselves to the ground by tieing sheets together. Both were captured several days later. Chavez was originally booked on charges of robbery, false imprisonment and criminal threat. The man accused of killing a richmond musician will be in court. Investigators believe the murder was inspired by hatred. The suspect is white, the victim africanamerican. Investigators say Daniel Porter<\/a> kelly of richmond beat, robbed and shot and killed william simms. It happened near the capri club in el sob bron they. Investigators are still looking for ray simons and daniel ortega. People around the world are remembering former astronaut and u. S. Senator john glenn. He died yesterday afternoon at a hospital in ohio where he had been hospitalized for more than a week. In 1962 glenn became the First American<\/a> to orbit the earth. He returned to space in 1998 at age 77 aboard Space Shuttle<\/a> discovery. Glenn served as the democratic senator from ohio for 24 years. E leaves behind a wife and two children. He was 95 years old. John glenns impact was felt far and wide including here in the bay area. His historic space flight inspired an entire generation. He was a marine and he was just a tremendous guy. He just seemed to be the ep pit many of what we all thought astronauts were like. I agree. I got to interview him once. A great man. And we will start to see spotty light showers moving in as this storm system connects all the way to the west of hawaii with moisture that will be moving in. Water was gushing out. As you mentioned, right by the Moscone Center<\/a>, right by the metreon. The water spread to a couple of blocks. There are closures right now, mission to fulsome on 4th shut down until noon as is howard from 3rd to 4th. Something to keep in mind this morning. Ancient pipes under the ground. The latest in the Millennium Tower<\/a> debacle continues. A uc berkeley engineer has been subpoenaed. Jack moehle is one of two engineers who reviewed the Foundation Design<\/a> of the 58story building in San Francisco<\/a>. The Millennium Tower<\/a> is sinking and leaning. Supervisors want to know who is responsible. Moehle has repeatedly dodged interviews prompting the unusual decision to subpoena him. The vote was by the board of supervisors government oversight committee. Our Investigative Unit<\/a> initially triggered city hearings on the tower. This is a look at some of the pictures, the water was gushing down at howard and 4th. This broke out at 2 40 this morning, not quite as messy now. There are multiple street closures on 3rd and 4th street to be aware of. A san jose english teacher is behind bars this morning, accused of having a sexual relationship with a male student. Police say 32yearold trudy hill used her position to exploit a 17yearold student at Santa Theresa<\/a> high school. That relationship took place between august and november of this year. The superintendent sent a letter to parents and staff saying the district is shocked and disturbed by the allegations. Its been a week since the deadly warehouse fire. Now all 36 victims have been identified. As the grieving deepeninedeepen special Forensic Mapping Team<\/a> is expected later today. Last night the Oakland City Council<\/a> approved. Allowing state funds to help in recovery efforts. New this morning, kris sanchez has been reporting on a surge of reported whooping cough cases in palo alto. According to the mercury news, at least 17 cases of pertussis confirmed in Santa Clara County<\/a> since october. At least three cases involve Jordan Middle School<\/a>, gunn and palo alto high schools. Palo alto School Leaders<\/a> tell the newspaper that the district alerted families earlier this week about, quote, numerous cases of students who tested positive.
