In just over three hours here at the hall of justice in san jose, the prosecution will try to convince the jury to convict Antolin Garcia torres in the murder of sierra lamar, a 15yearold girl who was abducted and murdered on her way to her School Bus Stop five years ago in morgan hill. Then the defense will get its final chance to plant a seed of reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury to convince them to return a verdict of not guilty. The trial did wrap up yesterday at the hall of justice after three months of testimony. The judge confirmed with Garcia Torres that he would not be testifying in his own defense. His response in court yesterday, quote, nothing has changed. Even though lamars body has never been found, the prosecution presented other physical evidence that might link Garcia Torres her disappearance, including dna found in his car and dna on her clothes, which were recovered in a field near her home. The last person called to the stand was a digital evidence forensic examiner for the Sheriffs Office who testified about lamars final activity on her email and social media accounts. And surveillance cameras that may or may not have recorded Garcia Torres driving his car around the time of lamars disappearance. We have snow pack yesterday after the measurements. A state wide average of 196 . The central sierra doing the best, double the amount we normally have for may 1st. And heres a live look outside at heavenly right now. Gorgeous sunrise over lake tahoe right now. And look at how warm these temps will be. It will be in the low 70s for tomorrow and thursday as well with a lot of sunshine. We have been talking about how those nearby rivers will be melting rather flooding with that snow melt happening right now. As we take a live look at kirkwood, i want to show you whats going to happen this weekend. Temperatures dropping, and look at that. There will be some snow in the forecast on sunday. So some huge changes under way here. Let me show wru what it looks like for the bay area. By thursday, we see the morning fog returning to the coastline. A cool onshore flow will help bring down our temperatures and there will also be a slight chance of weekend rain moving in to the bay area, especially for sunday into monday, and this is what it looks like as far as temperatures. Were up to 82 degrees today in San Francisco<\/a>. Breezy tomorrow. A little bit of an onshore flow, and then cooler temperatures for the rest of the week and a chance of sprinkles by the end of the weekend. Very hot for the inland areas. Russell maynard sold a highend sewing machine on ebay for 8600. He shipped the machine to his buyer using fedex and in doing that, he asked fedex for the pap paperwork to declare the value of the machine. He was nervous because it was a very expensive item. He said the clerk at fedex told him there was no such paperwork, and russell trusted her. That machine ended up arriving badly damaged. So the buyer returned it to russell, who had to refund the entire purchase. Next, russell filed a claim with fedex. About a week later, fedex issued russell a check for 241. He was shocked because thats more than 8,000 short. He says fedex told him it was because he didnt declare the value of the package at the type of shipping. Russell explained what happened when he shipped the machine and was shuffled around to few different people within the claims division, but in the end, fedex stood its ground, so russell reached out to us for help. We contacted fedex and it aed to cut russell another check for 8600. In a statement, fedex didnt really explain anything, but it did say that it regretted the delay in resolving mr. Maynards claim. New this morning, a fire breaks out at a south Bay High School<\/a> campus, and this morning, investigators are calling it suspicious. Kris sanchez joins us live at Branham High School<\/a> to show us some of the damage left behind this morning. Good morning, kris. Good morning, now that the sun is up and the custodian has arrived, we know this is worse than it seemed when it was still dark outside. Apparently, whoever set this fire also vandalized two of the sheds there. And used some of the tools to also vandalize the snack shack. You can see it is nearly a total loss and the reason that the Fire Department<\/a> believes this is suspicious, even before knowing about the vandalism at the shed, is because the fire started on the stoop outside the door. And thus, it appears it may have been set on purpose. Now, adding to the suspicious nature, in the last half hour, i talked to the custodian who said just last weekend, someone broke into the snack shack, the same one for the baseball team, and stole all of the sodas, the candy, other fundraising items. As for this morning, crews arrived on scene around 2 30 in the morning and after putting the flames out, they did remain on scene for more than an hour to make sure that the fire did not spread. Now, crews did mop up, they watched for hot spots. There is a sign here on campus, and we can show it to you live. There is Video Surveillance<\/a> here. So perhaps this will lead to a clue for investigators to figure out what happened here if this was set on purpose to try to track down the folks who did it. The weather getting warming outside, and the snakes are coming back out. Proof of this, a rattlesnake bit a san jose man while he was climbing peak in fremont yesterday. He was on the trail with his wife at the time. He ended up sitting down on a rock for a second. As he was doing that, he got bitten. When went to sit down after hiking on the peak, and he put his hand down and was bitten by a rattlesnake. Today is the grand opening of the new vista point facility in Yerba Buena Island<\/a> for bicyclist. The new path will be available every day during the week, not just during the weekends. Caltrans had blocked that part of the bridge during construction due to heavy duzal fumes and smoke from demlution crews removing the old eastern span. Youll still have to watch for fumes.
