A 3yearold girl is in the hospital right now after she was hit by a car on an east oakland street. Sky 7 was there on 9th avenue and birch street. Tonight, San Jose City leaders tell abc 7 news they will take action after fire crews discovered two fire hydrants were broken as they were fighting a fire. More on abc 7 news. Reporter residents on sugar creek drive say they complained about two broken fire hydrants but nothing was done. That is until a fire caused one town home to be harmed including two pets. When residents call to have it fixed we need to have the Water Company who is involved in it, in this case it was muni water, notify the Fire Department immediately. Reporter they look harmless enough, pretty even to some people, but on the peninsula the oak worm is on the attack. The pests will attack trees that are stressed. Reporter he is an arborist and says that the oak worm can completely tear up a live oak, especially one that has had problems from the drought. It is a caterpillar in its larvae stage, they come in leaves, that is how they grow. Reporter she has a number of oaks at her piedmont home. The oak worm was a problem years ago. It took the leaves off the trees because it caused them to look like they were dying. And fortunately they managed to heal themselves without any kind of medication. Reporter here on the peninsula, theyre finding these guys all over the place, on peoples clothing. On their cars, their homes, but the biggest threat remains to the trees. First sign of trouble, cocoons, lots of them nestle dna tree. Once the worms hatch, they began to destroy the leaves. You have to contact the arborist.
