Franks older brother louis says he initially stayed in hostels. They last spoke on saturday. Things were finally going well for him. He found an apartment. He was dating a girl. Reporter wednesday around 10 00 a. M. San Francisco Police say someone discovered a body in a private stairwell at westfield San Francisco center. They have ruled it a homicide at this point. Reporter louis says he cant think of anyone who would want to hurt his brother. He never wanted to be in any kind of altercation. He was the brother that always just went with the flow. We need to find whoever did this and bring them to justice. Any tips, please, please, please, report it to San Francisco pd. Reporter now the familys Middle Brother is gone. He was robbed of his life over something that im sure that was petty. Reporter his plans for opening a restaurant with his older brother one day gone as well. More than 100 people showed up for the viewing at st. Gregorys church in san mateo. He was a college student, an athlete, and of course a son. Abc 7 News Reporter Alyssa Harrington has the latest on this murder mystery. Reporter it has been five days since calvin riley was shot and killed at San Franciscos aquatic park, and still not many answers. Police have made no arrests. We dont know a motive. There are no known witnesses and no description of the shooter. What we do know is riley and a friend noticed someone lurking at the top of a hill while they played pokemon go on their phones. Riley ran ahead and jogged past a building alone. His friend heard gunfire. There are no security cameras that face that spot. But investigators say cameras could still be the key to cracking this case. If anyone also had a photograph or a video, maybe took a selfie in the area between 9 00 and 10 00 on saturday night, you might not realize something was in there but there might be information in there that could be useful to investigation. I think its possible to get these answers. Reporter rick smith, a former fbi agent, says video from nearby businesses could show investigators who was coming and going that night. He thinks theres more to the story. That would be the worst case scenario, obviously, that theres somebody out there shooting people indiscriminately, randomly. But i think thats in my view, based on my experience, the least likely event. Reporter smith says investigators need to build a timeline and find out everyone riley was in contact with. Team took a man into custody after shots were hired at a home not far from lake merit. Sky 7 hd shows the suspected gunman being detained by officers on 7th avenue near 21st street. Police responded to the home in force, heavily armed officers went into the home to search for weapons believed to have been used by the man. They recovered two guns. No one was injured. Police in san leandro are reaching out to the public for a second time hoping someone can help find a missing 15yearold girl. Deanna benedetto disappeared from her home on saturday night. Her mother had just taken away her cell phone and her computer, supposedly because she was posing as an adult on social media and dating apps. Police have no leads. They are of course concerned she may be in danger. We dont know who shes with. Thats why were really asking for the publics help here. We really need to get deanna back home to her family. Deanna does not have her cell phone. Again, it was confiscated. And is not active on any social media accounts at the moment. Her mother believes she left voluntarily with a friend or an acquaintance. The owner of a bankrupt wine company in berkeley admitted in federal court today that he took 45 million from Online Customers and did not deliver. John fox owns premier crew on university avenue. Federal attorneys say fox was involved in what amounted to a wine ponzi scheme. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud today and admitted to selling rare and expensive wine that he knew he wouldnt be able to deliver. He also admits to taking funds from his business to pay for expensive cars, private golf club memberships, and nearly a Million Dollars in gifts to women that he met online. Sentencing is set for december. He faces up to 20 years in prison. San jose has become the most expensive metro market for homes in the country. Its median home price soared to just over 1 million. An east bay Swimming Lesson picked up an unexpected member today. A deer dropped by, jumped right into the pool with the kids. Abc 7 news anchor eric thomas has the story. Reporter ever seen a deer in a life jacket before . Neither had anyone at the king park swimming pool. Till a young deer jumped into the pool this morning. Our staff who are trained in dealing with lots of emergencies but never deer in a pool sprung into action, leapt in the pool to keep the deer from swimming up to the children. Reporter several kids ranging from 3 to 6 years of age were in the pool at about 10 30 this morning when the wayward deer crashed their swim lesson. No one was in danger. But we needed time to get the children out of the pool. Reporter people stayed out of the pool for a half hour while staff checked chemicals to make sure that any contamination was taken care of. Meantime, staffers put a life preserver on bambi and tried to get the deer back on track. The staff kind of gently led the deer to the pool steps and the little deer sprung out of the pool and ran into the bushes. Reporter its hard to find any statistics about how often deer or wildlife end up in public or private pools. But its not uncommon. This video is from a similar incident in encino two years ago. The company says its shedding stores where sales and profits have been declining hoping the customers who shop there will shift to its website. Dale archibald is executive director of Santa Clara Universitys Retail Management institute. Now with ecommerce being stronger than ever its possible for them to serve their customer in those markets without a physical store. Reporter ophelia ostagueda is the kind of shopper who has shifted online to buy items for an upcoming trip. I did a lot of my shopping through amazon because its convenient. Usually youre at work, you dont have time. So during your lunch break you shop. Probably the stores, its a little bit less traffic than what it was before. Reporter macys says it will be investing to boost its digital and mobile platforms. Georgette green finds the current website difficult to use compared to other store sites. The process is a little bit more difficult. So they dont make it friendly . Its not no. Its not friendly, shopper friendly. Reporter Closing Stores are assets that can be sold. An xa example is the San Francisco mens store on stockton street. It will be sold for redevelopment. Its prime location should generate millions of dollars. Amid the success of Online Shopping options, walmart plans to shutter 269 stores this year while Sports Authority is closing all 450 of its stores after filing for bankruptcy. Now, get this. Analyst say there have been around 44,000 retail layoffs announced so far this year alone. Only the energy and computer sectors have cut more jobs. All of those store closures certainly welcome news investors. Macys stock jumped 17 today on the new york stock exchange, while kohls jumped 16 . Those gains helped all three major indices set new record highs today. The dow soared 117 points. The nasdaq edged up nearly 24, finishing at 5228. And the s p 500 closed at 2185 after gaining more than 10 points. Moving on to fires around the state, the California National guard has joined the fight against the massive fire in monterey county. About 150 members are putting out hot spots on the northeastern portion of the fire while more experienced firefighters concentrate on the growing southern flank. The fire has scorched nearly 70,000 acres and is 55 contained. In San Bernardino county firefighters are making progress containing the socalled pilot fire. So far its burned nearly 8,000 acres near the city of hesperia. The fire started sunday afternoon. More than 1,500 firefighters are now on the lines. It is 70 contained right now. So theyve made really solid progress. Road closures and evacuations, though, are still in place. And in Fresno County fire crews are facing tough conditions, trying to contain a wildfire burning near colinga. The mineral fire has grown to nearly 7,000 acres and is only 15 contained. So a lot more work there. Its destroyed one home and one out building. Firefighters say the steep and hilly terrain, as you can see in this video, is making the job especially difficult. You may be spared from springing forward and falling back every year. A bill to let voters suspend Daylight Savings time advanced past the key state Senate Appropriations committee today and is now going to head to the senate floor for further debate. Voters approved Daylight Saving time in 1949. But research now suggests that it can lead to heart attacks, car crashes, and workplace accidents. If it passes, the legislature and Governor Brown signs it, the choice would be left up to voters on the 2018 ballot. But for the time being summer continues, although it is starting to get darker a little earlier ive noticed, sandhya. But its still pretty warm out there. Thats right, dan, and its only going to get warmer as we head toward the next several days or so. You know, i always will say this. We always have variety here in the summertime, all our microclimates. So dan, it does make it easier for those of you who do not like the hotter weather. We do have the heat coming. That is great news for those of you who want to watch the perseid meteor showers. At least inland. They will be peaking tonight up to 200 an hour. Thats double what we would normally see during the perseid meteor shower, and the best viewing is going to be looking northeast between midnight and dawn. So just find a dark or dark place and go check it out. Here is where the best viewing will be. Good for our inland valleys where its going to be clear but poor right around the coast and around the bay. Unfortunately, the fog and low clouds will interfere with the viewing tonight. Heres where else were expecting poor conditions in terms of air quality, and thats in the inland east bay. Alert for your friday. This is the next one. Today we had one as well. And its really the smoke from the sobrantes fire along with the smog that is creating the poor air quality for the rest of you its going to be moderate air quality. Mountain view, san jose, morgan hill, 57 in half moon bay. And were looking at coit tower from abc 7 news exploratorium camera up here at 15. Visibility is good from this vantage point. Santa rosa, petaluma 55 degrees. Still near 70 degrees in concord and livermore, so it feels like a summer night. From our sfo camera we are looking at some low clouds there. Hard to see in the night sky. But theyre there. Low clouds and fog along the coast and bay. Spare the air again tomorrow. Were looking at hot days inland through next wednesday. So its going to be quite a stretch that were going to be dealing with the hot conditions, at least in our inland valleys. Tomorrow morning starting out with the fog. Temperatures in the 50s. Heres the hour by hour forecast. And what youre going to see is first thing later on tonight fog along the coast and bay. 5 00 a. M. You can see the coverage well into the east bay down the peninsula into the north bay. And then by 10 00 a. M. Fog pulls away from the bayside communities, sits tight across most of our beaches here. So its going to be another gray one. Inland and bay youll be looking at sunshine for your friday afternoon. And temperatures will come up a few degrees. So today some areas were down, some areas were up, but it was really minor. A couple of degrees.
