At 3,000 acres and so far ten structures destroyed, and this is the official number from cal fire, but our sky copter is showing several addition al buildings throughout the evening being damaged or destroyed. It is 5 contain and more than 1,000 u firefighters are on the front line, and this fire started in the bay area, and this is fueled by winds and hot temperatures, and some 4,000 people have been ordered to evacuate in lower lake and clear lake. Good evening, im eric thomas. Joining g uing us live on the cal fire spokesman daniel went, and the fire has not slowed down . No, not at all. Extremely hot temperatures, and the humidity in the teen, and the gusty winds. It is the winds that fuel the fire to the allow it to pick up in intensity around noon this afternoon and that is when the fire changed the direction from the easterly to the southeasterly direction and pushed it north right into the community of lower lake. We know as you mention that there are a lot of structures both homes and other buildings that have been destroy ed in th fire, and it continues to put up a fight as our firefighters are doing everything that we can right now to do some structure protection and slowdown or stop the fire as much as possible. This is not far from where the valley fire hit last year, right . Right. This fire start ed ed in the po just south of where the rocky fire was last year, and just outside of the jerusalem fire boundary as well as the valley fire. This pocket that did not burn in the fires last year, but, this fire was able to quickly grow in size, and with the sbeintensity still burning up into the area of the past and into the areas burned by the rocky fire last year, and so, obviously, an area that has seen a lot of wildfire activity, and it is the drought condition, and what is making it different from previous years is that we continue to have dry conditions, and this year, we have rainfall, and that led to the additional grass, and the grass grew, and that is the fuse to allow this fire to explode in size. And daniel, very quickly, before we let you go, what is the status of the evacuees, and where are they being sent . The e evacuations are sent to lower lake and clear lake, and three vacation shelters are set up, and one at the kelseyville high school, and one at twin pines in middletown and the third at the Adventist Church in lake forest, and this is where the residents can go and we will see what happens tomorrow night, and still the firefighters are working throughout the night to try to stop it. And thank you, from cal fire, for the the information on this fire. As we mentioned help is on the way to the firefighters on the front lines news was in San Francisco today as a stri strike strike team got ready to leave for fire station 7, and they will send six engines to the county, and they keep those ready for emergencies all around california. We will help with the structural defense, but in any way and it is a way to participate in the mutual aid system which is the best in the world. And when the San Francisco firefighters arrive, they will face condition like this, the local teams from alameda and morin are also on the front lines. And also, patients have been evacuated from the hospital, and according to lake county news all of the patients were transferred to lakeport, and the two hospitals are about 28 miles apart, and the authorities called ambulances from around the county to help with the transport. Pg e has told us that it has turned off miles of electrical li lines to make it safer for the firefighters in lake county. Right now 1,800 homes and businesses dont have power. The flames have also damaged about 20 pg e power poles and essential equipment. No estimate at this moment when pow ler be restored. Lets check out the weather conditions contributing to the fastmoving fire with drew tuma. Drew . We were near 100 degrees at this area, and we are seeing relief to 83 right now, but the winds are still out of the west at 6 to 9 miles per hour, and the relative humidity is still dry at 20 . You heard daniel talking about the winds being erratic, and it is a similar pattern for the next 24 hours. The wind is out of the east, and then turning to the east and west in the afternoon and the constant change in the wind is not going to be good for the firefighters as the flames are constantly changing the directions in the ways they are moving n. Terms of the temperatures in the next seven days weshg will go up in temperature for next wednesday when the hot numbers and unfortunately, the good news for the firefighters will cool off into the weekend and looking at this pattern if it holds true in the forecast. Coming up, eric. And we have to hold the line until the cooler temperatures come in. And the major fires in lake county as we told you the wildfires from the last valley fire is most destructive. The fire destroyed nearly 2,000 homes and that jerusalem fire which broke out last august charred 26,000 acres and that overlapped with the rocky fire that the burned more than 68,000 acres and 43 homes destroyed in that fire. Lilian kim is in lake county, and tweeting some dramatic images that she says that this man is defying the evacuation orders to help save property. The south bay is filled with music and dancing. The big names that took the stage today. And im abc 7 meteorolog as we are looking outside of the golden gate bridge. We have fog, and it is not going to be a continuing trend unfortunately for the firefighters. We will have entire forecast coming up. And im rick quan, and the giants suffer a giant collapse. The 49ers open the preseason ag dublin, los gatos, and all of the bay area, this is abc 7 news. The south bay was showing off the salsa skills. The jazz summerfest was in town for seven days. Today the zoo had a Welcome Party for the turkey vultures and the visitors can sign visitor cards and learn about the animals. The party was including Face Painting and extra lures for the pokemon players. And now, drew tuma joining with us the conditions facing firefighters tonight and tomorrow, and it has chewed up 3,000 acres so far, drew. Yes, it is incredible, eric, how fast this fire has moved and part of the reason why the winds are erratic. It is not that they are strong, but they keep changing direction, and that is how is it going to be for the next 24 hours. The winds are out of the west, and switching to the southwest and early weekend tomorrow morning, but as we get into the early afternoon and evening, they will switch from the east to the west. That is how the fires are spread so quickly, and the firefighters will get to one location, and then they have to turn around and see the fires spreading in another location. And sky 7 above the fire this evening and showing the cargo tankers dropping the fire retardant trying to get the upper hand on the fire. And there you go. A dramatic picture of the fire eating away at all of the vegetation, the dark black smoke. If you are around that vicinity, you will have poor air quality, and take note of that. If there is any silver lining, it is that we were a touchle co cooler today than yesterday. Across the bay area right now, the numbers were cooler than 24 hours ago, and four degrees in novato, and 10 in hayward and concord. And Mother Nature in Cruise Control for the next 24 hours, and expect the same or similar setup in terms of the temperature temperatures. We wont see an increase of the numbers until wednesday. Looking outside at the exploritori exploritorium, and yes, you should see the lights of the bay bridge, but they are enshrouded in fog. We will allow for some of the coastal drizzle and carbon copy again monday of the similar temperatures we had today, but midweek, we will heat up, and not only here, but near the fire in lake county. A weekend cooldown is helpingk, and that is going to help the firefighters with the temperatures dropping below w, 55 in San Francisco, and 58 in oakland and 65 in san jose, and antioch is the mild spot at 77. So, overnight tonight, the most spots will drop into the 50s and i expect some spots in the north bay will drop into the 40s, and so we will have cool location, and then if you are headed back to school, and i think that i hear a lot of parents jumping for joy, and the first day of Unified School District is going to be tomorrow, and start off with the jacket, and by the time they are let out, it is going to be peaks of sunshine and increased temperatures. The fog first thing in the morning around the bay, and it is going to be pulled back midday and we will have afternoon sunshine. Highs we will start 78 in san jose, and 80 in kuper tcupertin 89 in gilroy. And tomorrow, along the e peninsula, and half moon bay, it is 77, and 78 for mountain view, and tomorrow, 62 degrees, and good luck to the kids heading back to school. And 78 for south San Francisco, and 76 in pet luna, and 86 in napa, and 80 in freemont, and 86 in caster valley. And we are 80 in san ramon, and brentwood with the warm spot. And so the forecast showing you tomorrow, it is a warm and steady pattern through tuesday and there the heat increases through wednesday, but it is one day that the heat goes up, and then we will cool off. That is what we are looking for especially around the fire and air, and those temperatures are going to be dropping below normal and good news for the firefighters fighting the fire come the weekend. All right. That is welcomed news. Drew, thank you very much. Time for the sports, and rick quan is in tonight. Well, eric, i dont know about you, but i am ready for the football. The chip kelly era got under way as 49ers played host to houston in levy stadium. Colin kaepernick did not play because of a shoulder soreness. And there wias a fumble, and a quick 70 lead after the fumble recovery. An Blaine Gabbert had 3 of 10 passes for 63 yards. And he slips a defender for mcdonald who completes the 47yard pass play. And 77. And then this nice run led to a field goal, and overall the 49ers rush ed for 236 yards. San francisco was threatening to score in the second quarter, but Dejuan Harris fumbled at the 2 yard line, and the texans recovered. Thad lewis threw for 47 yards and ran for ten more, but after this scramble, he had to leave with a leg injury. Houston controlled the second half as backup quarterback tom savage threw for a pair of touchdowns. This is to cal bear steve anderson, and coach kelly was most upset about the fumbles. The concern for us in this league that you cant turn the ball over. So we turned the ball over twice in the first half. Once for a touchdown and the other time on the 2 yard line going in to score, and so that is a 14point switch that we have to win if we are going to be winning games this season. And this is a big concern. There were ups and downs, but we saw kind of when we got into the groove what we can do as a unit. Vance made a tremendous play after the catch, and good to get the touchdown on the booard. With a 71 lead after six innings, and johnny cueto on the mound, the giants appeared to have baltimore beat, and as yogi berra once said, it is not over until it is over. And it was Bobblehead Day at at t park. Hunter pence takes wade miley deep to center for the solo shot to go 20, San Francisco. Cueto had a pair of them, and this single will bring home prandon crawford. The giants appeared to break open the game with a fourrun fifth, and trevor brown had three hits this afternoon, but then baltimore began to hit back. Mark trumbo connecting off of Hunter Strickland and the major League Leading 47th home run made it 7 4. And with two on and two out, Santiago Casilla gives up the thr threerun blast to jonathan schoop, and they stun San Francisco 87, and the dodgers also lost so that the giants have a onegame lead in the west. Matt neal has been pitching with well since being called up for the as, but he was roughed by seattle. Adam lind takes him deep, and this is going to wind up on the second debt. His 17th of the season. And later, it looks like leonys martinez has it, but khris davis comes on to make a great diving catch. Tied 11 in the third, corey seager delivers a double the right field, and that is going to score shawn omally, and the ma mariners in front. Then in the sixth, with the bases loaded, he again delivers with a double, and that clears the bases. Seattle with a 71 lead. The as got two runs in their half on davis team high 30th home run of the season, but oakland falling short losing 84, and his 30 homers are the most by an athletic in three years. At the Pga John Deere classic, ryan moore won by two strokes over ben martin finishing 22 under par. Id be happy finishing 22 over par. I understand. Thank you a lot, rick. Thank you a lot, rick.
