The gunman was a combat veteran who suffered from mental issues. Although a motive is not known, the base commander does not believe it was terrorism related. It happened at ft. Hood in texas. The nations largest army base. First responders with the military police and Emergency Services responded to the scene. Engaged the shooter. And the shooter is dead. From a selfinflicted gunshot wound. Reporter at least four are dead, including the gunman, a fellow soldier. More than a dozen injured. Their conditions ranging from stable to critical. We have received now a total of four patients who have been transferred to our facility. Two more are en route. Reporter president obama said the shooting reopens the pain of the deadly massacre at ft. Hood nearly five years ago. We know these families. We know their Incredible Service to our country and the sacrifices that they make. Obviously our thoughts and prayers were, are, with the entire community. Were heartbroken that Something Like this might have happened again. Reporter 13 people were killed and more than 30 wounded in 2009 in what was the deadliest mass shooting ever at an American Military base. The question, how could this have happened again . Two strong earthquakes shook chile in the last couple of hours. The first a 6. 4, followed 50 minutes later by a 7. 8. No word of any damage or injuries so far. Now there is a tsunami warning for chile and peru. Priests are saying people are being evacuated in coastal areas as a precaution. There are not any tsunami alerts for us along the u. S. West coast. Six people died in the 8. 2 quake that hit the same area last night. The shaking touched off landslides, knocked out power and damaged an airport. Fires destroyed several businesses. The earthquake also set off a tsunami, sending sevenfoot waves crashing onto shore. Though incredibly powerful, that 8. 2, experts say that was not the big one seismologists expect to eventually hit that quakeprone part of the world. Building codes and preparedness are credited tonight with saving lives after a powerful earthquake that rocked chile so violently yesterday. There are more than 100 mostly chinese victims of a travel agency fraud in San Francisco. Reporter it happened six years ago in chinatown. Angry clients gathering at the abandoned office of a travel agency trying to get their money back. More than 100 mostly elderly chinese defrauded when they bought fake tickets to china. Now its happening again. Of course, very upset. I cried. I was so upset the whole week after i knew they closed the closure of the business. Reporter this woman does not want to be identified. He have she is a vehicle tip of fraudulent travel agency operation. One of more than 100 people who have filed reports with police. Captain joe mcfadden showed us an enormous flow chart. Bottom line . Losses totaling more than 260,000 so far. Mcfadden says their main suspect is raymond shu. He bankrupt hi shut down his chinatown office about a month ago. A cell phone business now occupies the space. Captain mcfadden says it was an allcash business. They were offering tickets to china without going through a broker. And they werent legitimate tickets when these people tried to turn them in. Reporter the victim we spoke with bought a tenday package for two to hong kong, airline and hotel included. I paid 4,000 for my trip to hong kong in june. But travel agency just took away my money and disappeared. Reporter afterwards, she did have some suspicions that something was wrong. Travel agency didnt even issue a ticket to me. They just give me a receipt and itinerary of the trip. Then they tell me that everything will be okay. Reporter a couple of days later, the travel agency shut its doors. And there was no trace of the business. The website is gone. I called the 1800 number, nobody answered. Reporter captain mcfadden says this type of fraud is all too common in ethnic communities. The suspects prey on people that are vulnerable to it that only speak dont have the ability to go elsewhere. Reporter police say if youre a victim go to the nearest Police Station and file a report. Angry reaction tonight by san bruno city officials to pg es response to 12 federal safety charges, a result of an investigation after that deadly san bruno pipeline blast. San brunos mayor says hes upset after the utility released a taped statement and refused to answer questions following the federal indictment. They keep calling this an accident. And they keep talking about what theyve done and what theyre going to do in the future. This was not an accident. This could have been prevented. And because of pg e and the lack of oversight by our own Public Utilities commission, eight people lost their lives. Eight people died. Pg e faces a maximum 500,000 fine for each of the 12 charges. An exSan Francisco firefighter charged with hitting a motorcyclist while driving drunk appeared in court for the first time today. 43yearold Michael Quinn is free on 100,000 bail for last junes accident. In oakland tonight the city administrator is leaving after just one month on the job. Fred blackwell is leaving to become ceo of the San Francisco foundation which distributes money to community organizations. Blackwell applied for the job in november while he was still an assistant city administrator for oakland. Blackwell was appointed after Deanna Santana left. His replacement has alrea been named. Mayor kw tweeted im pleased to name Henry Gardner as oaklands city administrator, effective june 15th. As mr. Blackwell leaves well seek council confirmation.
