Right now, there are warnings in alabama, mississippi, tennessee, and north carolina. The Weather Service<\/a> says there have been more than a thousand light nipg strikes a minute in the south. Earlier a massive twister struck tupelo, mississippi more than a mile wide as it carved up everything in its path. At least 25 people have died in this storm since yesterday. Heres alex perez and the path of destruction. Tonight, massive violent tornadoes on the ground in mississippi demolishing buildings and power lines in tupelo. Heres the town before the tornado, just a few months ago and here it is after. In mayflower the storm twisted and piled semis on top of each other. This family saw their neighborhood completely flattened. We just held hands and then we saw the whole back of the house go. Reporter during the storm, they huddle ds in the closet together and prayed. Definitely didnt think we were going to make it. I just remember hearing my dad yell please god, just save my family. He did. He did. Yes. Reporter in suburban little rock, rescue crews work through the night searching for survivors. Watch as one woman is pull from the rubble alive with her dog, and then two others survivors surfaced. The house was moved off the foundation and they were buried under debris, so they had to actually dig them out. It was dramatic. It was sad. Reporter from nebraska to louisiana, twisters turned towns upside down. A tornado in baxter, kansas, cut a path all the way to oklahoma. Its crazy. I dont see how anybody could live through that. It has been literally a path of destruction. Heres a live doppler 7 image of the line powerful and dangerous thunderstorms have that spawned these tornadoes so tornado watches in effect until 3 00 a. M. For portions of mississippi, much of alabama, the western corners of north and south carolina. Northern georgia, parts of tennessee. Tornado warnings are in effect along much of this thunderstorm activity as well. And there have been so far no fewer than 46 reports of tornadoes during the afternoon and evening hours in this area affected by these storms. So very serious conditions and the storms are likely to redevelop tomorrow in virtually the same area, so well be watching all of this for you. Over the weekend president obama shared his thoughts at a news conference. And he also the u. S. And European Union<\/a> are imposing new sanctions offer the crisis with russia and the ukraine. South koreas coast guard has released new video showing the captain of a ferry that sank two weeks ago abandoning his ship ahead of hundreds of passengers. The video shows the captain in a long sleeved dark shirt and shorts being pulled to safety. The clip was taken just before the ferry became submerged with hundreds of passengers still trapped below deck. At least 188 people are confirmed dead and more than 100 others are still missing and with very little hope, frankly none left. At least half a dozen Drug Companies<\/a> are rushing to develop new drugs that could help the elderly walk again and rebuild muscle strength. The drugs focus on blocking a protein called myostat inthat curbs muscle group as we age. Even scientists not involved in the trials are optimistic about this. The drug are in early stage testing right now. Muscle loss affects 15 to 20 of the population over the age of 65 or 70 so its a huge issue. The biggest concern that the drug could be misused by athletes, body builders or others looking for anti aging poegses.
